It USED to be to prepare young people to become productive members of society. No more!

It’s almost like the folks in charge of public school education in this nation are deliberately using the schools to achieve their goals of social engineering and indoctrinating youth in a Leftist political belief system.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It is a **religious** belief system!

Government schools are GODLESS in their worldview! Children who attend **will** learn to think and reason GODLESSLY! They **must** merely to cooperate with the classroom instruction and assignments.

In fact, they always have had a goal of indoctrination; to wit: To instill in our youngest citizens the knowledge of our civics and history and the shared code of morality (read: Judeo-Christian ethics) to become productive, informed and educated American citizens.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The above was a lie to help sell the idea of compulsory and socialist-funded schools to gullible 19th century voters. The **real** goal of the progressives who pushed for compulsory government owned and run socialist schools was ( and continues to be) what we have today!

Progressives pushed for compulsory, socialist-funded, and government owned and run schools in the mid-1800s.

Progressives have **ALWAYS** controlled teacher training and curriculum development.

Progressives **always** pushed for more and more secularism.

Progressives succeeded by the early 1900s in instituting a godlessly secular humanism curriculum with a nod to God in the morning.

Progressives succeeded in establishing godless curriculum in every government in this nation by the mid-1960s.

So?....Is it any wonder that citizens believed that Franklin D. Roosevelt could walk on water? Are we surprised that we have a man of unknown origins living in the Red House ( oops! “White” House)?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The goal of government owned and run, socialist-funded, and compulsory schools was **always** to produce citizens who were:

—comfortable with socialism.
—comfortable with government compulsion
—comfortable with godless secular humanism

This can not be reformed. Socialism can not be reformed!!! We must begin the process of building private alternatives ( preferably abandoning the Prussian-model system). We must work to see that every child in this nation has access to a private alternative that will uphold the principles of our Founding Fathers and Judeo-Christian values.

Propaganda.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Absolutely! Propaganda has **always** been the purpose and goal of the progressives who promoted the idea of government schools and have run them from the beginning!

The nice thing is that not only do we get to fully fund this but we also have no say in the matter.

Don't you just **love** being under police threat to pay those taxes that **establish** the government religion of GODLESS secular humanism? /s

In the present, it appears that the purpose of “public” education” is the indoctrination of our children to an Anti-America agenda as well as the instilling “values” that embrace the deviant, perverted “lifestyle” that also demonizes our standards on religion and traditional values.

It just seem evident now. But...Please remember that the **goal** of the progressives who pushed for compulsory, secular, government schooling in the mid-1800s ( and who have **always** controlled teacher training and curriculum development) was to produce a citizenry that was comfortable with socialism, secularism, and government compulsion!

Usually, when reading the comments to education articles I feel like banging my head against a wall. It is **amazing** how many conservatives believe that socialist-funded, Prussian military-modeled, secular, and compulsory government education can be reformed.

The very premise is rotten to the core! It can not be reformed.

That was the point of my original post.

Plain and simple.

So, what the hell are we going to do about this? What are we willing to do?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

First, we should give up the idea that any system of education based on socialist-funding, compulsion, Prussian-models, and the impossible to achieve religious neutrality should be abandoned, abolished, and even outlawed. All of it is a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination!

Next, conservatives should **immediately** withdraw their own children and help in any way possible to allow the escape of any grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

We must start building a NON-Prussian-model of private education. Voucher, tax credits, and charters can help to achieve this. These NON-Prussian-modeled schools would include:

** Mini-schools, or one room schools, in the homes of teachers living in the neighborhood. The regulations should NOT NOT NOT be any more rigorous than those applied to existing daycare.

** Day care centers, such as KinderCare, could hire teacher(s )and add grades kindergarten and higher.

** Free on-line education from kindergarten to 12th grade. Much, if not most, college and graduate school courses could be on-line and some already are. If the producers accepted advertising, they have the opportunity to become as rich as Mark Zuckerman.

** Charles Murray is right. We need qualifying exams. Let's dump most B.A. and B.S. degrees! The qualifying exams could start for first grade material and move through college and even graduate school. Even many of the courses needed for programs such as medical, dental, pharmacy, engineer, accounting, law, and nursing could be on-line ( but , yes, mentoring is needed on campus for these programs.) The exams could even be free if the producers accepted advertising.

** Privatize all sports, theater, arts, and music. Remove them from the government schools. Privatize them or (less acceptable) put them under the control of the Parks and Recreation. Many parents support their government schools because it is the **only** way their children can participate in team sports and musical or arts programs. The government is running farm teams for the big leagues a forcing the taxpayer to pay for it.

Finally....Vouchers, charters, and tax credits might ease the transition but should be abandoned as quickly as possible. The danger for vouchers, etc., is that they lead to government control of private education. What is needed is complete separation of school and state.
