Democrat Governor Bev Perdue of NC Wasn't Joking: (Shortened Title)

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: So the governor of North Carolina is just joking about canceling the 2012 congressional elections. She was just joking, she was just having some fun out there. That's the spin of the local media in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's also the spin of the Drive-Bys, State-Controlled Media, but it's not true. We have the audio of Bev Perdue suggesting the elections be canceled and she's not joking, as you will hear, and it's quite interesting. The Democrats, the more they get in trouble, and the more that things unravel, the more they show us who they really are. She's not the first one suggesting we cancel the elections. Peter Orszag, the former budget director of the White House, suggested pretty much the same thing in the New Republic last week. We just got too much democracy going on right now. We need to dial back the democracy so that correct decisions can be made.

What it all adds up to is that the left and the Democrats demonstrate their authoritarian instincts, their statist ideals when times grow very tough, and they are growing very tough.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let's start with Beverly Perdue, the governor of North Carolina. This is The Daily Caller website: "As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years. 'I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,' Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, NC. 'I really hope that somebody can agree with me on that.' She said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy." Now, my friends, they're trying to say now in the aftermath here that she was just joking. We have an excerpt of the actual audio from Governor Perdue at a Rotary Club event in Cary, North Carolina.

PERDUE: I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.

RUSH: No laughter. No applause, either, but there was no laughter; there's no jocularity there. This effort to say that she was just kidding is gonna fall flat because she wasn't. She was dead serious. Folks, do you remember, I spent a lot of time on a monologue yesterday telling you my opinion just how bad it is for the Democrats and for Obama right now. We had a poll result from The Economist magazine that shows Obama 36% approval, all the other domestic polls show him at 42, 43. I think it's worse than that. I think the White House internal polls show it to be much worse than that.

Stanley Greenberg, and he's a Democrat Clinton pollster, works with Carville, and he's got polling data out, it is not pretty. It's in the National Journal. "One of the Democratic party’s leading pollsters released a survey of 60 Republican-held battleground districts today." Battleground district is one that's up for grabs. A battleground district means that Republicans hold the seat but they could lose it, it's in contention. "A survey of 60 Republican-held battleground districts today painting an ominous picture for Congressional Democrats in 2012. The poll shows Democratic House candidates faring worse than they did in the 2010 midterms, being dragged down by an unpopular president who would lose to both Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Mitt Romney."

And the story goes on to say, "Instead of an overall anti-incumbent sentiment impacting members of both parties, voters are taking more of their anger out on Democrats. When voters were asked whether they’re supporting the Republican incumbent or a Democratic candidate, 50 percent preferred the Republican and just 41 percent backed the Democrat." Pete Wehner wrote about this, and he said, "[H]ere's the really ominous news for Democrats: Voters in these districts said they were more supportive of Republicans than they were during the 2010 midterms," two years ago, "when 48 percent said they backed the Republican candidate and 42 percent said they backed the Democrat. (Republicans won 55 percent of the overall vote in these 60 battleground districts, while Democrats took 43 percent.)

"In 2010, Republicans netted 63 House seats -- their best showing since 1948," even better than it was in 1994. So it's looking bad. The Democrat pollsters are admitting it's looking bad, and everybody on the Democrat side knows how bad it's looking. They're doing their best to cover it up; they're doing their best to soft sell it. Obama has lost everybody that voted for him. He's lost the independents. He's lost the base! That's why all this class envy, class warfare rhetoric is going on. He's trying to get his base back. So Bev Perdue comes along in the midst of all this and says, "Why don't we just cancel these elections?" Now, I don't know much about Beverly Perdue, but I'll tell you this: She can't be too bright.

The Drive-By Media spends a lot of time and a lot of effort trying to make Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, the South Carolina governor Nikki Haley look dumb. The Drive-Bys try to make them look stupid, bumbling, and foolish; and all the while they have a female politician in their midst who is dumb, stupid, bumbling, and foolish; and they're out there trying to make excuses. "Oh, she was just joking! You shouldn't take this seriously. She was just joking about this." No, she wasn't joking. If they could get away with canceling elections, they would do it. That is who the Democrats of today are. That's what the American left is all about. You know, not to draw any connection or comparisons (far be it from me to do that), but Adolf Hitler would agree with Beverly Perdue.

Once Hitler was elected, he said, essentially, "The people have decided. Why do we need to keep asking them what they think over and over again?" Don't forget what Pelosi said some months ago. Pelosi was out there saying (summarized), "You know, you Republicans, you need to change the way you are so that it doesn't really matter who wins elections as much as it does. It matters too much who wins elections. You need to change so that it doesn't matter." Well, what did that mean? It meant, "You Republicans have got to get rid of your conservatives. You have got to get rid of the conservative wing of your party. You've gotta make it so they don't win anything.

"We've gotta get back to the way it was in the old days when Bob Michel ran the Republicans in the House and you had 120 members in there and you went and played golf all day and you didn't care about what the legislation was 'cause you knew you couldn't stop it. That's what we Democrats want! Peace to us is the absence of opposition. We don't want any elections, and we don't want any opposition -- and if we have elections, we don't want elections that we're gonna lose. So why don't you Republicans just get rid of your conservatives and see to it that when they do have election results, whoever wins doesn't matter that much 'cause we're all the same when you strip it away?" Well, they're not all the same when conservatives win elections.

Here's Beverly Perdue, now. Here, listen to this again, and you tell me if you think Beverly Perdue's joking or being jocular or trying to evoke laughter.

PERDUE: I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.

RUSH: Man, oh, man! The Constitution doesn't matter. Look at what the definition of "helping the country recover" is. Now, somebody sent me an e-mail, Rush: "Why would she do this? If they're canceling the election she's guaranteeing a huge Republican majority." Well, they're in a world of hurt. She wants to cancel the elections because 2012 could dwarf 2010 in terms of Republican victory/Democrat loss. What could happen in November next year... I'll tell you if the election were in one month or two months, the Democrat Party would end up with the smallest number of elected representatives in the House of Representatives maybe in history. That's what they all know, and coming back from that... Even now, coming back after the Republicans take 63 seats, a huge majority in the House?

The Democrats getting that house back; that is a major, major undertaking. If you have another election that mirrors 2010, the Democrats are looking at being out of power in the House of Representatives for who knows how long. And this comment of hers, it's not off the cuff. She had to think about this. She's out there making the pitch to a Rotary Club -- and, of course, all of this is done to "save the country." These elections, you know, they have to spend so much time fundraising and they have to spend so much time in their districts. It takes them away from their jobs and we really need them working on jobs. We need them creating jobs.

Which is bull. They don't "create jobs" in the House of Representatives; they get things out of the way for people to do. So they're in a world of hurt, folks. Not to tell you to get overconfident here. As we sit here today, I'm telling you the lay of the land. I say it rather joyously because it reassures me that we've not lost the country as far as the people are concerned. It's just obvious now what an aberration -- an abnormality, if you will -- Obama is. This is not what people thought they were getting, it's not what people want, this is not direction they want the country to go and they're going to show up in record numbers in November to say so. The Democrat response? Let's cancel the election. "Ah, she's just joking. She's just joking. You couldn't hear that? She's just trying to have some fun out there." It's a strange thing to joke about. You better be obvious you're joking if you're gonna say something like that, and she wasn't. She's dead serious. The next time they tell you how stupid Sarah Palin is or Michele Bachmann, just think back to this day and North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue.

Interesting that Perdue is "thinking outside the box." Part of the problem is that our Congresspeople are not being held responsible for their inability to come up with ways to bolster the economy. It's about money.

So a more Constitutional way to make the critters accountable more quickly is to tie their pay to the performance of the economy. The more the economy tanks, the lower their paycheck becomes. Ditto the White House policy makers.

If they can't fix the problem, they should share the pain. Isn't that what Obama was saying?

Her own office said she was “joking”..... how would the wacko’s care to explain that if it didn’t happen?

Many of them don’t care about the “paycheck”. Pelosi is married to a billionaire. She loves those perks, free military flights, free booze, served by military officers....

Interesting ... she wants to cancel the congressional elections but not the presidential ...

On a side note, how far has NC fallen to elect such a leftist hag.

It’s simply the conclusion of the leftist mindset.

Their mindset is that those who are alive now are so much more advanced than people from the past that no rules set by those past people should hold any weight when compared to the decisions of intellectuals alive today.

It simply is an extension of the evolutionary mindset, as is all of liberalism.

Facing further losses in the House and potential loss of the Senate and Presidency, the Democrats have called for a “time out” to allow them time to destroy America while they still maintain the power to pack courts with leftist allies. This is the ultimate goal which, once established, will end what was good about America and brought millions to this country.

Obama himself has suggested a few times this summer that he would like to govern without Congress.

And people confined to 'the infernal regions' would like a glass of iced water, doesn't exactly mean they're going to get it...

This can be a very big deal. Bigger than Bobby Ethridge attacking that guy or Phil Hare trashing the constitution.

Obama would like to be like Papa Doc Duvalier of Haiti: “O-baa-ma, Leader of the People. President for life.” The Donkeys and RINOs would approve.

She should be removed from office immediately! A statement like that from any public office holder, much less a sitting governor, should be an immediate and irrevocable disqualification from office for life. Nothing about that attitude could be further from the principles of this republic. It is unacceptable, joke or no joke, coming from a public official.

I am as serious as can be. Unless the people of NC just like being clowns and sheep who exist for the abusive amusement of jackasses like Perdue then they should be at the capital tomorrow morning helping her clean her office OUT!

Metaphorically speaking; it needs to be done with full strength chlorine bleach.

I agree. See what happens when you fail to hold elections. The president (not capitalized on purpose) of the Palestinians just went to the UN with a demand for statehood, but he cancelled their elections years ago. He has no legitimacy, just like Hitler (look it up). How do you know what he proposed is the actual will of the inhabitants if they can't vote?

“Let’s suspend elections for congress for a couple of years to let them help this country recover...”

Just the tip, just for a second, just to see how it feels.

OK honey?

Here I go . . .

This should win an award as a CER (Career Ending Remark). I think she is going to lose the next election.

We are already moving toward a police state and have been since the passage of the National Security Act of 1947.
Since 9-11 we have moved even faster toward a Neo Fascist State with a loss of more freedoms all predicated on the insane War on Terror.
Now we know exactly where Obama and the Democrats, and probably a number of Republicans, want to go. In effect to try and use not only the possibility of another terrorist attack for the 2012 elections but more importantly laying the groundwork in the event of a economic collapse of some kind.
Take Perdue’s words for what she said and as a prelude to a warning, these Leftists would like nothing better than to be able to suspend elections at some point. Obama certainly would like the opportunity to be like his hero Lincoln and suspend as many parts of the Constitution as possible all in the name of preserving the country in the event of an economic collapse.
