Romney [Obama-lite] up in Florida 30% Romney, 24% Perry, 7% Cain-Sept. 22-25, 2011
Public Policy Polling ^ | 28th September 2011 | PPP Polling

Posted on 09/28/2011 2:07:36 PM PDT by shield

Rick Perry's led the Republican field in every Southern state that we've polled since he entered the Presidential race...until now. Mitt Romney continues to lead the way in Florida with 30% to 24% for Perry, 10% for Gingrich, 8% for Ron Paul, 7% for Herman Cain, 6% for Michele Bachmann, 3% for Jon Huntsman, 2% for Rick Santorum, and 1% for Gary Johnson.

Perry had a poor debate performance in Florida Thursday night and our results suggest that the negative coverage he received from that did hurt him some in the state. We started this poll on Thursday night before the debate and in those interviews the race was neck and neck with Romney at 33% and Perry at 31%. But in interviews done Friday-Sunday Romney's lead expanded to double digits at 29-19. More telling might be what happened to Perry's favorability numbers after the debate- on Thursday night he was at 63/23 with Florida Republicans. Friday-Sunday he was at 48/36. Perry's poor performance may or may not prove to be a game changer nationally but it definitely appears to have hurt his image in the key state where it occurred.

So is this what the conservatives desire. Mitt Romney.

In Mitten's own words--youtube--PRO, abortion, gay rights, national mandate for Americans to buy health insurance, anti-guns, etc.

Mitt Romney - World Heavyweight Champion Liberal hypocrite

this is a disaster.

I blame this on Bachmann, Santorum, and the deluded followers of Palin and Paul.

They are destroying the only viable conservative in the race, while completely and totally ignoring Romney who is 100000 times worse. It's unbelievable, Romney has only been attacked on ONE issue during the debates, Romneycare, and has gotten a free ride on every other single thing he has ever done, while we nit pick the most ridiculous stuff imaginable about Perry.

Looks like the Florida strawpoll vote for Cain was a protest vote. Hopefully this will be an immeditae wake up call for Gov Perry.

If this keeps trending towards Willard, he is on his way to the nomination. The next 4 months will fly by.

“They are destroying the only viable conservative in the race, while completely and totally ignoring Romney who is 100000 times worse. “

I think you’re right that we have to turn our attention to Romney.

I think the reason we don’t discuss him too much here is that, on FR, Romney is pretty much a non-starter.

But we need to start compiling a list of his flaws...

There’s just so *many*. Where do we even start!

Hope they enjoy Romney.

This was posted earlier but when I requested it be breaking news, I was ignored. So I posted it. IT is important to let others see that what Sarah Palin said last night of Cain being the flavor of the week...she hit the mark. Cain isn’t going any place. IT’s either Mittens OR Perry...so folks did to make a decision...do they want Obama-lite or the man they have waited for all their adult lives...PERRY.

This is like 1980 all over again with Obama playing carter, Perry playing Reagan, and Romney playing HW Bush.

BUT this time, Bush and the whole conservative movement is attacking Reagan as a liberal and nit picking his record while simultaneously ignoring HW Bush's record.

So in the end we will end up with either Carter or HW Bush.

This is a disaster.

There are conservative voters who say, “No way am I going to vote for this RINO Romney”.

Then there are conservatives who say, “I don’t want to vote for this RINO Romney but even more than that, if we don’t defeat Obama, there won’t be a country anymore...so I’m going to vote for the guy I think is the most likely to beat Obama”. This thinking may, or may not, be valid or accurate but I think this explains the poll numbers.

You might want to look at the methodology of this poll.

They included voters who considered themselves 'somewhat liberal', 'very liberal' and 'moderate'.

At no point do they say how many people were polled. All they give is percentages.

In addition, 'Public Policy Polling' are a liberal group and they admit it.

http://projects.newsobserver.com/node/14540

The last thing a liberal wants is Cain to go up against Obama.

****************

With that said, I agree with the Perry supporters that we need to destroy that establishment RINO Romney. I can't stand that guy.

WRONGO...

Scientifically-conducted polls such as this one are the most accurate polls. Of course, party primary polls of any kind this early may bear little resemblance to the actual results, but that reflects how the opinion of the electorate is in flux.

As mentioned, internet polls and straw polls are utterly worthless.

The cheap manipulation BY the simple-minded is to believe polls that have results they like, and proclaim polls with results they don't like as "biased" or "rigged."

He proves it each time he speaks about anything to do with the subject.

It is not a nit.

Since you are from Texas, maybe you agree that ILLEGAL ALIENS should have tax payer goodies, I disagree.

On the thread about the Zogby poll that showed Cain in the lead, Perry supporters were jumping all over the place, telling Cain supporters that this poll didn’t mean anything and not to get too excited.

But Perry supporters fall into the pit of despair when a poll run by democrats, that includes LIBERALS, shows Romney in the lead.

So I’ll throw Perry supporters’ advice right back at cha:

Don’t get too excited.

I’m sorry, that’s too much - saying Perry is playing the “Reagan” part. And I’m not talking about his positions on various minor issues. I’m not committed to any candidate yet (I don’t want Romney either). But Reagan was far and away the most articulate candidate in that election, his presence and oratory blew everyone in the race...well, out of the race. He really was The Great Communicator.

The best you can say about Perry is that he has the same speaking and presence problems that plagued George W. Bush throughout his career.

Perry is not nimble or swift in debate or oratory - he doesn’t think well on the fly - so how can he possibly be compared to Reagan. It’s not his positions that bother me, it’s his demonstrated inability to run an effective campaign and be an effective presence or an effective speaker and thinker under intense pressure.

Right now he’s looking at the 2011 Fred Thompson Shooting-Star Award.

Romney had illegals cutting his lawn at his mansion in Belmont, MA; he watched them! Milt then tried to deflect the heat on the issue by saying it was the landscaping company’s responsibility to make sure the workers were legal.

SOOOO, you’re the governor and don’t have the sense to know who’s working on your private property? And he’s going to secure the border? REALLY? HE DOESN’T EVEN DO IT AT HIS OWN HOME!!!

And then there’s that little RomneyCare thing that he headed up...you know, the predecessor to ObamaCare.

Perry ain’t perfect...but has he sat and watched illegals cut his lawn? Did he create the inspiration for ObamaCare?

Yeah, that Mitt’s great...just great...

Agree. I’ll never understand why Bachmann and Santorum didn’t shoot their bullets at Obama and RINO Romney instead of the guy who shared 95% of their positions. It would have made much more sense to take out the RINO first. The only thing that makes sense is that they were pursuing their own self-interest over that of the country.

Actually, we’re headed for a deadlocked convention.

I’ve running some numbers on the new GOP rules, and I don’t see a way anyone goes into the convention with 50% + 1 of delegates.

The GOP changed the rules for the primaries. All primaries held before April 1st (38 states) are proportional—no more winner take all.

Romney can’t get above the 30% mark, and I don’t think he ever will no matter how much money he spends.

Romney does have the skill to beat down any candidates that get into the race (as he’s doing with Perry) to ensure they don’t get out front either. I’m guessing Perry will also garner 30-40% of the vote, but not get over 50%.

So come April 1st, you’ll have 12 primaries left that allow winner take all (I’m not sure how many actually will be winner take all). Romney will have about 30% of the delegates, let’s be optimistic for Perry and give him 40% of the deletages, and the other 30% of the delegates will be scattered amoung various other candidates.

Even with the winner take all now in effect, these states are scattered all over the country, so it’s not likely either Perry or Romney will sweep them. Romney and Perry will likely split them up (and maybe 1 or 2 might go to another candidate). In any event, neither Romney or Perry can pick up enough delegates in the last 12 states to put them over 50%.

So we’ll go into the convention with nobody holding over 50% of the delegates. That is going to fun (he said sarcasticly).

Ron Paul could actually be a power player at the convention as will Tea Partiers.

I don’t think Conservatives desire a Mitt Romney but after the performances of others, not counting Cain, we may end up stuck with him.

If we do get stuck with him and he doesn’t follow our wishes then in 4 years we need to run a third party candidate and go ahead and destroy the GOP.

Every time Romney attacks Perry on something like immergration or gardacil.. and then the moderators turn to Santorum and or Bachmann and ask them what they think..

Romney is succeeding because Perry seems powerless to stop him rhetorically. Reagan would have turned Romney on his head and tied him into knots right there and then. Had Perry had the ability think on his feet and turn that into effective rhetoric, Romney would have been laughed off the stage.

If you want to be "the conservative" in the race and carry than mantel effectively, then you must be that good, or you will be destroyed swiftly. Perry needs to get that good right now...if he has that ability it had better become quite obvious quickly.

Perry isn't losing to Romney, everyone including the moderators is attacking him!

They are ganging up on him, no one could stand up to that kind of attack from 7 others + 2 or 3 moderators. Picking apart the 2 or 3 questionably unconservative things someone did over their 20 years in public service.
