Cutting out the Cheese Maker

Rose Marie Belforti, a small town cheese maker in rural New York, is at the epicenter of the effort to banish Christians from living out their faith in public office. Belforti, a Bible-believing Christian, has been the elected town clerk for nearly a decade. After the New York legislature redefined marriage and ordered clerks to issue same-sex "marriage" licenses, Belforti had a surprise visit from a lesbian who wanted a marriage license. Rose did what she would do for anyone--she offered an appointment. Just not with her. The women weren't denied a license, but Rose, in anticipation of a conflict with her faith, took the matter to the Ledyard Town Board in August. The board appointed several deputy clerks to sign and issue the licenses. The two women got their license and were "married," but now they want to make sure that those who won't participate and celebrate this ruse of a "marriage" are banished from public office.

The push for counterfeit marriage isn't about accommodation; it's not even about "equality." Even when homosexuals get what they say they want--the redefinition of marriage and the so-called "benefits" of marriage--they aren't satisfied. Instead, they're intent on driving anyone from a public post that dares to hold a view contradictory to theirs. The goal is to force Christians to check their faith at the doors of public service.

The people behind this effort will use the same rhetoric as President Obama, claiming that they support the freedom of worship. But the freedom of "worship" is vastly different than the freedom of religion. The freedom of worship is what happens on any given Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until noon . The freedom of religion is the ability to live your life according to the precepts of you Christian faith--as Rose Marie is attempting to do. There's a reason the freedoms of religion and speech were called our first freedoms, because all other liberties flow from those two. Fortunately, Mrs. Belforti is being represented by our friends at the Alliance Defense Fund, who have communicated to the town clerks about their rights of accommodation under New York law.

So are these lesbians and gays going to go after the jobs of Arab clerks that refuse to issue them marriage licenses or sell pork products in restaurants and grocery stores for religious reasons?

It seems to me that accommodation of the happy/bitter “couple” has been accomplished. Any action beyond that is simply religious persecution. There’s something in the Constitution about that, if I remember right....

"Blessed are the Cheesemakers"

Obviously it's not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturer of dairy products.

I guess I am dense this afternoon, what the heck does cheesemaking have to do with gay marriage?
