Purdue, the NYT, Orszag....all just kidding.
Not only was the statement not off the cuff. The idea did not originate in the limited space of Perdue’s gray matter. This came from higher up the food chain.
So, to everyone that has ridiculed us for saying that it is not an automatic given that we will have elections in 2012, think again.

More and more we hear the Left calling for communism. They also advertise that they have progressed beyond constitution. We have commie CEO’s praising the government of China as being more business friendly because it is efficient and consistent. It’s not rocked by power of voters. This is really creepy.
I never heard an elected official suggest that they were installing communism. They did it in “living constitutional” judicial rulings and we knew they were doing it. But they did not dare to advertise what they were doing and announce the end of the constitutional Republic. Now they do.

If you had told me fifteen years ago that Federal agents would be stationed at airports to sexually molest grandmas, children and the handicapped before they could board a plane, I would have laughed.
The constitution would never allow people being searched without a warrent and the American people would never pose naked for the Federal government and permit agents to systematically rub their boobs and crotches so they could use transportation.
Actually, I hold the opposite view that you assume I do. I had a tagline for the longest time that read, "If Hitler had been as lazy as Obama, the 1940's would have been a pretty nice decade."
However, your assumption that it CANNOT happen due to the Constitution is flawed in the extreme. In the course of history, many documents have been brushed aside, or quick laws passed to overturn them, when a dictator moves to rule. *That* is what I am pointing out.
