DES MOINES, Iowa Hoping to revive his flagging bid for the Republican presidential nomination, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is calling for an overhaul of the way Americans pay taxes, buy health care and contribute to the Social Security system.
Gingrich mapped out the 10-point plan, which hes calling The 21st Century Contract with America, in a speech at a Des Moines insurance company Thursday. Key elements include repealing President Barack Obamas health care plan, giving taxpayers the option of paying a flat tax and allowing young people to opt out of Social Security.

Gingrich calls for changes in taxes, health care
If anyone wants to have some fun over there.
i didn’t understand in the 90’s why we need a contract , nor now.

It’s a Beltway plan written by a Beltway guy.
Great ideas in there, but not the sweeping overhaul that I think we need now.
That said, I could support Newt if he were the candidate.
My problem with a flat tax is it starts as one flat tax for all. Than after a few terms of a Dem Congress, it morphs into a flat tax for some in the higher income ranges only and then a increasingly higher flat tax and culminates in surtax on “the wealthy” effectively creating a new higher tax bracket so the tax is no longer flat.
The only meaningful idea on the table 9-9-9 by Cain.
Because legislators will cheat and deceive as they see fit, unless there is a firm contract document in hand to which we voters can point and remind the lying scum they are about to be out of a job for breech of contract.
Actually, this concept is something I really like, provided that the document actually says something of substance.

It's like a signed agreement to you from the person you are voting for. In their own words, it's their committment to what they will do and what they will attempt.
It's written documentation of their campaign promises.
This "contract" is just an overview, and a work in progress. It seems Mr. Gingrich grees with Nancy Pelosi about more than just climate change. He's also got a touch of "vote for me and you'll get to see what's in it.
From "Gingrich Delivers New 'Contract with America'" on CSPAN's website:I'm not sure. At least that story had a link to Newt Gingrich's new “Contract with America.”
During a speech in Des Moines, Iowa, GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich unveiled his new Contract with America. Gingrich told the audience that "Our challenges are enormous."
Gingrich said the new Contract is a framework, and that the full plan will not be released until the end of September 2012, just weeks before Election Day. "This is the beginning of a conversation," he said.
Newt's own website doesn't seem to have the document on it. So I can't say for sure the Des Moines Register version is "official." Seems Newt is following the Obama model a bit, too. Pass this plan, but the plan isn't on my website yet.

Yep-that is what I am thinking too-Cain and Gingrich .
Constitutional Government...which is what most of ‘em,including Gingrich, are trying to run FROM...doesn’t require anything more than a SPINE!!!
Or have the "Republicans" dropped that critical "social issue"?
What the hell has happened to the Republicans?
I like Newt, the intellectual of the GOP field.
If Newt was really an intellectual, he wouldn’t have fallen for the climate change scam.
I will get flamed here, but I like Newt’s message and think he could kick Obama’s arse in the general election. Go Newt!
Flame away.
He’s brilliant, but the problem is that after all the great work he did, he let the Dems chase him out (there was no reason for him to have left his position...he had done nothing wrong) and I think it would be hard for him to come back. Once they have smelled weakness...
All a president can really promise to do about abortion is to appoint strict contructionist judges.
Hank
I still have RINO of Newt stuck in my teeth from the last GOP cooked D.C. stew. Sorry, must pass on the Newt.
Cain has my attention and I’m hoping he will gain traction.
