Ron Paul criticizes Obama for U.S. role in killing of Awlaki

Ron Paul, the Texas congressman who is seeking the GOP presidential nomination, on Friday criticized the Obama administration’s action in killing Anwar Awlaki, the American-born cleric who advocated jihad against the United States.

Paul was the strongest critic on the Republican side in condemning the attack, which was praised by other candidates including Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, a libertarian like Paul, also questioned the tactic of killing a U.S. citizen without due process.

I notice that you and others use the word Moslims while most use Muslims. Which one is it?

Ron Paul needs to read the Constitution:
"Anchor Babies" are not citizens.

Sounds like the start of a joke...

“So, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich walk into a black gay bar...”

al-Awlawki joined a foreign army (al Qaeda) that has formally declared war against the United States and has been conducting military operations against the United States for many years now. He was killed in an overseas military operation.

The fact that al Qaeda violates the Geneva Convention by not wearing uniforms and attacking civilians does not help al-Awlawki’s case, it makes it worse.

Ron Paul is a nut.

citizen???

I sincerely doubt if this sack of $hit was really a citizen. Probably only born here, which doesn't automatically make someone a citizen.

Krauthammer just made an excellant point...

What about all the hundreds of thousands Americans that an American President ordered to be shot during the CIVIL WAR?

Well at least they had an argument that the Constitution allowed a state to secede and that they were acting lawfully under the Constitution by seceding.

Awlaki, on the other hand, is no different than an American citizen who joined the Nazi army or the Japanese Imperial Army.

“I voted for authority to go after those individuals responsible for 9/11,” Paul said. “Nobody ever suggested that he [Awlaki] was participant in 9/11.” ...In an interview with Fox News, Johnson made the same points as Paul, warning that killing an American citizen without due process set a dangerous precedent despite the need for the United States to remain vigilant against terrorism.

I am not going to shed a tear for Al Awlaki, however, there is a point here. It sounds as though presidential actions have expanded well beyond what Congress actually authorized and if this is the case RP does have a very valid point. Perhaps more flexibility and extemporizing is required of a President dealing with daily issues, but since RP is not actually going to be President, reminding us that if we are philosophically consistent we will question some of this is altogether a good thing and a valuable service.

The United States used to be a nation of laws, as in a Republic, but it has devolved into some kind of democracy run by an oligarcy of self-appointed elites, for whom the rule of law means nothing.

Far too many citizens are woefully ignorant of our laws and our history, and simply view life as just another reality show.

If the President can order the execution of anybody, we have lost our way.

Now this POS POTUS will have to murder somebody every week until the next election.

"I sincerely doubt if this sack of $hit was really a citizen."

Does it really matter if he was indeed a citizen? I could give a damn! I actually hope he was a citizen because our action shows that if you saddle up with the America-hating enemy we will grant you the opportunity to be treated as such. Penetrated by the tip of a drone...without the lube! God Bless America!

We’ve known for years that the CIA does stuff like that, but up to now they have at least had the decency to hide their work.

Due process for foreign terrorists, and drone attacks against U.S. citizens. That’s been the policy of the Obamunists. Politically inspired fishing for votes. I suppose those who condemn Ron Paul’s principled but utterly inconsequential comments will vote for the Kenyan stalinist now. I applaud crazy Ron Paul for the timely reminder.

To: Revolting cat!

So let’s say we send a B-17 over Berlin and bomb Hitler’s bunker and in there with His Fuehrerness is an American citizen of German descent who joined the Nazi army.

Are you saying bombing the bunker is wrong because we would be killing an American citizen without due process?

"If the President can order the execution of anybody, we have lost our way."

Aw blow it out your ass! It's that type of thinking that got us into this shit. If Reagan had severely bombed Beirut after they killed over 200 Marines in cold blood we wouldn't be fighting this fight today. It's the President's job to order the execution of any and everybody who threatens our way of life. You and your appeasing leader Ron Paul would happily get us all killed. Do us all a favor, renounce your citizenship today. You don't deserve the protection OUR military affords you!
