McCain: Christie candidacy viable, offers caution
CBS ^ | 2011-10-02 | Lucy Madison

Amid continued speculation that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is seriously considering a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain, 2008's GOP presidential nominee, said he thinks Christie would make a "viable" candidate - but he warned that "the swimming pool looks a lot better until you jump right in."

McCain, in a Sunday appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," declined to say whether or not he thought Christie "ought to" get into the race, but called himself a "great admirer" of the governor.

"I think it's a tough decision that only he and his family can make," McCain said. "I'm a great admirer of Governor Christie. I think he'd be a very viable candidate."

Still, the Arizona senator emphasized that "the swimming pool looks a lot better until you jump right in. The water may not be quite as warm as you think."

"Remember he's starting from way behind in fundraising and organization and other areas," McCain said, of Christie, but noted that if he does decide to run, "I wish him luck. I think that there is a bit of a caution."

Christy is a tough guy, but the way he has subdued the unions and other things is the same technique he will use to subdue the 2nd Amendment...as I hear he is FOR gun control.

Sorry, IF he does run, he will not get my vote just to appease Ann Coulter.

surely you mean Romney, since Romney is 100000 times more liberal than Perry.

But no I am sure you meant Perry, because you are a closet Romney supporter like most of the Perry bashers on the site.

McCain is an Establishment Republican. That’s a nice way of saying he is a frigging RINO. Common sense says a RINO will always pick a fellow RINO.

McCain is worthless as a Senator.

Right! McCain hates Perry, Bush hates Perry, Rove hates Perry, everyone attacks only Perry at the debates, the media hates Perry, therefore Perry is the RINO! LOL

Romney is a true RINO. Perry is in the back pockets of corporations and calls real American patriots heartless.

They are both very bad for this country if elected president. End of story.

We need a tried and true conservative, one who will stand up to the establishment in Washington and in the board rooms when its bad for the country. Christie, Romney and Perry are far from the right answer.

The three amigos, mccain, perry and obummer, have the same view point on amnesty. That is not debatable. You may lie about it if you wish, but that does not change the fact they all three support amnesty. Just like you do.

Perry has arrested more illegal aliens than everyone up on that stage combined.

Vote for your baby killing, gun grabbing, lying mormon if you want, the rest of us never will.

Oh, and P.S. you might want to actually check out Romney’s record on illegals since he is one of the business men that likes to hire them.

Don’t that a mainstream Reagan conservative is a threat to the 2nd Amendment. Gov. Christie freed a man who was legally transporting his guns in a move to his new home.

I know because the guy was moving to where I live. The poor guy was in jail due to a stupid jerk off judge.

Gov. Christie had him freed.

Perry has arrested no one, unless it was some blond bimbo in a bar somewhere. If you wish to get into the hiring of illegals, you can bet money, the rats already have the names and address of any and all illegals that worked on Perry's ranch. Bet on it, it will be released, hell bush senior worked illegals, jorge’s nanny was an illegal.

70% of the people on Romneycare are illegal aliens.

if you are going to try and roast Perry on immergration, you might want to check on the record of your own candidate.

A Governor doesn’t create jobs, he provides an environment for others to create jobs.

If those businesses choose to brake the law and hire illegal workers, there’s nothing a Governor can do about it.

The State of Texas is forced by federal law to provide emergeny treatment to illegal aliens, we have no choice in the matter.

Romney was not forced to have Romneycare cover illegal aliens.

it's called the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act passed in 1986.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Medical_Treatment_and_Active_Labor_Act

NO ONE can be denied emergency care, PERIOD.

Romneycare on the other-hand is not emergency care, and yet it purposely covers illegals and costs Massachusetts tax payers 38 million a year.

You are pulling stuff out of your rear, and the docs just say that it is emergency care to get it paid for by the government. Hell I knew of an illegal that was cross-eyed, the doctor fixed his eye and you paid for it as emergency care. Emergency care is stopping the bleeding, you can heal on your own. And 38 million is really a big number compared to the texas 1.6 BILLION.

The hospitals and or the state don’t get to decide if it’s a real emergency or not. Anyone that shows up for any reason (even a runny nose) at an emergency room, is required by federal law to receive treatment, even if they have no means of paying.

The government can't create jobs, it can only impede job creation as Obama has done.

Perry has kept the state from impeding business owners from creating jobs. Who they hire is up to them.

Romney on the other hand has a history of actually hiring illegal aliens to do work for him.

So... to sum things up...

Perry is doing everything federal law will allow him to do to fight the illegal invasion.

Romney is hiring them and giving them free healthcare.

The docs are not bleeding the system, the federal government is killing us with regulations like this. The docs don't want to give treatment to these people, they are forced to by the federal government, and you and I pay higher prices to our medical care and insurance because of it.

No one should have the “right” to demand a product or service from someone else. If you can make a doctor provide free emergency care, you can make a restaurant provide free food to the starving, or a landlord to provide free housing for the homeless in a snowstorm. Where does it end? All these problems are originating from the federal government. As Reagan said.... Government is not the solution to these problems, government IS the problem.
