Russia's Putin says wants to build "Eurasian Union"

Mon, Oct 3 2011

By Gleb Bryanski

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said he wants to bring ex-Soviet states into a "Eurasian Union" in an article which outlined his first foreign policy initiative as he prepares to return to the Kremlin as the country's next president.

Putin said the new union would build on an existing Customs Union with Belarus and Kazakhstan which from next year will remove all barriers to trade, capital and labor movement between the three countries.

"We are not going to stop there and are setting an ambitious goal -- to achieve an even higher integration level in the Eurasian Union," Putin wrote in an article which will be published in Izvestia newspaper on October 4.

Putin said last month he would run in the March 2012 presidential election and his current public approval ratings show that he is set to win.

Putin's initiative comes as Russia nears the end of its 18-year-old negotiations to join the World Trade Organization. In the article Putin made no secret of his skepticism about the global trade watchdog.

"The process of finding new post-crisis global development models is moving forward with difficulty. For example, the Doha round (of international trade talks) has practically stopped. There are objective difficulties inside the WTO," he wrote.

Knowing what little I do about Russians, I do not think this “free movement of labor” idea will go down very well with the average Russian. I’ve heard they harbor openly hostile attitudes towards anybody from the “stans” if they show up and try to live in Moscow.

Protest? He’s lending a helping hand. BHO is a fool.

Look at a map. We have a significant presence in Georgia, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Horn of Africa, Kuwait and the Balkans.

We have significant influence over or there is animosity against Russia in most of Central Europe, Ukraine, India and Israel.

BHO the moron is pulling us out of Iraq, effectively making us the army that won the Iran-Iraq war for Iran. Pull us out of Afghanistan and Iran has no pressure from us to their East. US forces will be very isolated in the region, allowing Moscow and its associates to form very effective alliances with Iran and China. Add to that the alliance with Venezuela and Cuba and you have a very effective and long-term alliance that can control a massive amount of oil and gas and *the* major part of the world economy. That means they can use their access to resources to operate as a world mafia.

Oil and gas is what keeps the Russian economy (and what kept the Soviet economy) running. Right now they are in good shape. If the price collapses or the rest of the world gets energy from another source, they are done and they know it.

Venezuela, Iran and North Korea all want to go on the offensive against the US. BHO has given them a friendly, pro-world hand. “Republicans,” like Ron Paul, who call for increased isolationism and a massive reduction in our military forces have been instrumental in assisting in the destruction of the American military without firing a shot (which is why you see him and his fans on RT all the time).

BHO cuts funding for individual military members through increased health care premiums, reducing training, cancelling the retirement programs and first getting rid of DB (don’t be) to DADT and then removing all restrictions.

For all of these reasons, I was hoping Allen West would run, although I know there is no way he would win. If we have another 4 years of BHO (or a “Republican” like Paul), followed by another 4 years of anti-military, non-strategic buffoonery, we are guaranteed a gargantuan war, the winner of which would be far from certain.

I was in Leipzig in about 2000 and met a woman who had lived there while it was Communist East Germany. She was still angry with Americans for the fire bombing of Dresden during WWII, totally ungrateful for the deaths of allied soldiers like my Uncle Richard H Thoos. And she was so sad that they no longer had free seats to the opera at the city opera house. She sounded like she would trade freedom for opera tickets. She made as much sense as the WallStreet Protestors!

"new post-crisis global development models"

How pathetic. Russia did NOTHING to help the economic growth the world has seen over the last 30 years, that was ALL down to the US.

A reduction to ~90% of the enormous gains made, and Russia thinks they can talk about it?!?!?

We'd still be in the ******* economic dark ages if Russia had any say in the last 30 years of global economic development.

what a surprise. Putin calls for a union of republics under a less socialist curtain and they’ll all be paying tribute to him for the privileged of not getting their gas cut off or possibly not accidentally getting caught up in a coup.

Same racket, different name.

Wow. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes. While I may not necessarily see a new Russia as necessarily ‘evil’ (in some ways Russia has been becoming more Christian and capitalist), I am all the same fully cognizant that this turn of events 100% DEFINITELY requires a strong US and a strong US president. Especially considering that the new ‘Eurasian Union’ will not have the inate problems that plagued the old Soviet Union (e.g. a socialist economy), and that at the same time an even bigger potential threat (China) is also a growing capitalist economy (with a communist political heart) and certain designs. If cloning works a certain chap called Ronald needs to be brought back, because the way the world is going it is looking more and more ‘interesting.’ A weaker US, a far stronger China, and now a Russia (that has been getting quite rich for the last decade) now calling for a ‘Eurasian Union.’

Something like a 10 nation coalition that would pursue the extermination of Israel, maybe?
That empire never had seven heads and ten horns. Shift your sights slightly westward.
