Documents May Contradict Eric Holder Fast & Furious Testimony
Politico ^ | October 4, 2011 | Tim Mak

Posted on 10/04/2011 7:16:37 AM PDT by lbryce

Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the Fast and Furious gun program as far back as July 2010, which may contradict his statements to Congress, new documents suggest.

Under the program, weapons were allowed to be illegally purchased in the Phoenix area so that they could be tracked to gun traffickers and drug cartel leaders. But the ATF lost track of these firearms, and many were allowed to cross into Mexico.

The documents, leaked to CNN, CBS and other news organizations on Capitol Hill, indicate that Holder knew about the program well before he said he first became aware of it in testimony to Congress.

The documents include a memo to Holder from Michael F. Walter, Director of the National Drug Intelligence Center, dated July 5, 2010, that mentions Fast and Furious.

But in May 2011, Holder told a House committee hearing that he had only recently learned about Fast and Furious.

“When did you first know about the program, officially known as Fast and Furious?” asked Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA), chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

“I’m not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks,” Holder replied.

The Justice Department strongly disputed any suggestion that Holder misled Congress.

A senior DoJ official told POLITICO that while Holder knew that an operation was going on in 2010, he was not aware until early 2011 of the controversial tactics used in Fast and Furious.

The Justice Department claims Issa’s question referred to the controversial tactics of Fast and Furious and not the overall operation itself.

Here's hoping Holder's fall from grace will be every bit as Fast and Furious as this burgeoning scandal is turning out to be. Remember. Nixon got tripped up over Watergate not on any criminality connected to the scandal but in perjuring himself as part of the cover-up.

The political refrain of over forty years ago has returned to Washington to once again wreak havoc for those who think they are above the law. Eric Holder; What did you know and when did you know it?/

But the ATF lost track of these firearms, and many were allowed to cross into Mexico.

That's a rather generous assumption.

They never 'lost' track of these weapons because they never attempted to track them in the first place. That was not the mission objective of Operation Gun Walker.

Eric Holder would not make a complete dramatization of the events to protect himself and his boss, would he?

This HAD to have come from the top. There are no clues that this may have been a rogue operation.

Deniability becomes ever more implausible.

This is going to make Watergate look like a rainy Sunday afternoon at the park.

It is not the crime, but the cover-up, that makes the case so devastating.

Input needed. Have now started a new ping list called BORDER WARS since so many of these stories are starting to intersect and overlap. I would like to keep the Gunwalker threads separate. Let me know if you want on the Border Wars list. It will NOT be the same as Gunwalker, though they might overlap occasionally. Please ping me to any articles you think fit in this catagory. Thank you.

"Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the Fast and Furious gun program as far back as July 2010,which may contradict his statements to Congress..."

This must be the new way to say perjury in D.C.

He'll just do what ALL lying politicians do when they lie under Oath: "I mis-spoke", "I didn't understand the question", "It depends on the meaning of 'is' ", etc.

He won't spend a day in jail, when he obviously committed Perjury, and pleading ignorance as the TOP LAWYER in the U.S. is really stupid.

“Perjury”...is such an ugly word,
Everything I say, is not true.
Honestly, “BS” is more preferred,
And mostly what I give to you.

I’ll take issue with that. Laws were indeed broken here. They had to be broken to get the guns in the hands of the bad guys. That alone should be sufficient to get rid of Holder and put him in a cell. Uhbama will just suffer collateral damage as he should.

This was an attempt to blame Americans and American gun dealers for border gun related violence hence build a case for stricter gun control laws. A general purge of this administration is in order.

..and quit calling it a “sting”!

All the White House wanted was a “problem”, which could only be solved by GUN CONTROL!

Until we the people have real power to force the law to be enforced, the crooks in government will always get away with lucrative means to a soft, cushiony life until they die. Communists and crooks always disable the alarms and shackle the guards first, and then they can ransack the place with impunity. That’s why the most pressing and serious issue this nation faces is actually not the economy, but the lawlessness within our own government agencies, bureaucracies, and law enforcement.

When the entire system closed their eyes to all the evidence and instead gave the keys of the kingdom to a man guilty of forgery, perjury, and extortion just to cover up his ineligibility, we entered a new phase of existence: covert takeover of the entire system so the communist ransacking of this nation could begin in earnest.

Serious as a heart attack, but because they threatened the media with loss of careers, lives, and families, the Obamafia got even “conservatives” to consider the lawlessness to be a big joke.

Anybody who is still laughing at that “joke” is officially brain-dead. We have an all-out communist takeover of the law enforcement system in this nation.

Right now the person in the White House can declare any US citizen to be an enemy combatant and have us shot down, no questions asked, no trial, nothing. And nobody will ever prosecute him for murder. Total lawlessness. Makes it even more ominous when you realize that Janet Napolitano has sent memos to law enforcement saying that pro-life and small-government advocates are to be considered potential terrorists.

Indeed it is a rather generous assumption. I would simply call it what it is: a lie.

From an earlier Fast and Furious thread:

We need to shoot down this meme whenever it surfaces. This operation was not BOTCHED. It was UNCOVERED.

Until then it went perfectly according to plan. And that plan did not include tracking. What it did anticipate were a few deaths on both side of the border and an easy path to stricter gun control laws - the real goal of Fast and Furious. For Obama and Holder those deaths were just the collateral damage necessary to achieve their goal.

The word now is that the person occupying the highest office of law enforcement in our nation didn’t correctly understand the question during the Congressional hearing.

On the same level as his former boss BJ Clinton, depends on what the meaning of “is” is.

since there is no longer a special prosecutor law on the books does this mean that Eric Holder would have to prosecute himself for perjury? Not bloody well likely.

Mexico needs to file charges against Obama and Holder at the International Criminal Court and we’ll see how the libs respond. They after all wanted to prosecute Bush and Cheney for War Crimes in Iraq.

Secondly, the relatives of Alwaki should do the same. File criminal charges against Obama for the assasination of a US citizen without due process in the US courts, as all the libs wanted to give to foreign enemy combatants.

Time to expose all the libs for the frauds that they are.

How about "at least as far back as March 2009", unless his Deputy AG David Ogden was sneaking around behind his back on C-SPAN and in Mexico:
