CBS News Reporter Says White House Screamed, Swore at Her Over Fast and Furious
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10/4/11 | MARK HEMINGWAY

Posted on 10/04/2011 11:06:38 AM PDT by Nachum

The Fast and Furious scandal, in which the Justice Department knowingly gave Mexican criminal gangs thousands of guns, just keeps escalating. The latest development centers around whether or not Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress about having knowledge of the controversial gun trafficking operation. Recently released documents say Holder was briefed about the operation long before he told the Judiciary Committee he was first aware of what was going on. (Holder now claims he misunderstood the question was being asked.)

What's more, CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson -- who's been covering the scandal from the beginning -- says in an interview on the Laura Ingraham Show today that the White House and Justice Department have taken to screaming at her for reporting on the story. You can listen to the full interview below, but here are the key excerpts from Attkisson:

In between the yelling that I received from Justice Department yesterday, the spokeswoman--who would not put anything in writing, I was asking for her explanation so there would be clarity and no confusion later over what had been said, she wouldn't put anything in writing--so we talked on the phone and she said things such as the question Holder answered was different than the one he asked. But he phrased it, he said very explicitly, 'I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.'

If you were reading the Washington Post last year you would have observed they published a SERIES of very lengthy articles about gun running from the US to Mexico.

They had remarkably small numbers ~ like 7 long guns had ever been discovered that were traceable back to the US, but the Post used that as a basis for a 90% US sourcing.

It was pretty clear the Post had had "unfettered" access to ATF personnel on the border, in Mexico, in the Arizona field office and in Washington DC ~ and also to Justice Department folks involved in supposed ATF gun captures and tracing.

It was about that time that the very same ATF people the Posties were interviewing for their stories were doing the "Fast and Furious" trick ~ as well as some others like it in other states.

The same people the Post was portraying as heroic were knowingly involved in shipping guns to Mexican drug cartels.

It is inescapable that the Post writers and their editors KNEW SOME STUFF.

They've since removed those stories to their "Pay for it sucker" server. I had a chance to cruise back through the articles just before that happened and it's pretty clear it was a hand in glove relationship.

Thank you.

It appears that the WP is an accomplice to Obama/Holder’s attack on the 2nd Amend., murder of a federal agent, death of hundreds of Mexicans, and subsequent coverup.

Lamar Alexander contacted Obama, asking for a special prosecutor?

Do you actually believe the corrupt-to-the-core Obama will appoint one, to investigate F&F, Holder and his own Administration?

I don’t think it’s going to be that easy.

“If CBS gathers what is likely the real story, Obama might just choose to announce early that he will not run for reelection and hope that will get CBS, Republicans and certain gun rights groups to back off”

Hope not, Bambi running in 2012 is less than a 50/50 proposition for him winning. If he doesn't run Hitlery is better than 50/50 to win, you just can't get a majority of (Moderate)Women voters to think with their God given brain, just like another Voting Block that I can think of.

I like Issa, just was expecting more after the November elections. I really expected heads to roll, the way he was talking.

from Jan 2011

US Representative Darrell Issa, the incoming chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, spent the weekend bashing the Obama Administration saying it was one of the most corrupt administrations ever.

The California congressman stated he intends to investigate such incidents as Obama White House promises made to Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak to drop out of his Senate race in 2010, and the allegations of misconduct by Justice Department officials in the handling of the allegations that New Black Panther Party intimidated voters on election day. On the heels of President Barack Obama’s alleged effort to bribe Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak with a government job, a Washington insider reveals that the commander-in-chief unscrupulously tried using a federal judgeship to resolve an internal White House political problem

He said Obama needs to bring his accountants, He talked very strong, but there is still no accountability, the New Black Panther pass was a disappointment. Could be he wanted to focus on ATF, Maybe he just doesn't have enough power. The corruption is so widespread.

Quite right, and IIRC there were “news” stories, and pressers by rat pols pushing the same fabrications.

I bet there are a dozen or so among the DOJ and La Casa Blanca staff who have a difficult time sleeping.

What they probably fear most is one of them turning on the others. Leftists demented enough to implement this operation will do it in a heartbeat.

Tracy Schmaler, formerly the senior director, global public affairs at Yahoo! Inc, is joining the Justice Department's Office of Public Affairs as Deputy Director where she will work alongside Director Matt Miller. Previous to working at Yahoo!, Schmaler ran the show at the Senate Judiciary Committee where she was communications director to the Committee for Senator Leahy. During her time on the Committee, Schmaler made life difficult for the Bush Administration's Supreme Court nominations and her work is both feared and well-respected by both sides of the aisle. At Yahoo!, Schmaler focused on international human rights issues around China and Microsoft's failed bid for the company.

You, too, are right on target with either or both of your points.

Obama has plenty of connections in a roundabout way to international/Mexican drug cartels via the Chicago political machine and/or the Chicago organized crime group known as "The Outfit."

And it is clear that the same old temptation that suckered many before (i.e. "I am the President or AG, I AM the law!") has once again worked its magic.

I noticed that this “petition” exists on the White House website, and requires that I sign up in order to log on and sign the petition. I’m more than a little wary of this “petition”. If there is a petition that exists outside of the White House, let me know.
I was a bit nervous about this, too.

This petition was first brought to my attention a few days back by a FReeper, txnuke, on this thread: Sign the petition to appoint a special prosecutor.

Registration is required, and to register, you need to give this much information: email, first name, last initial and ZIP code.

I was going to skip it, but I decided some things are worth fighting for. If so many people are standing up for removing "In God We Trust" from our currency, legalizing marijuana, and other foolish petitions that are there, I can stand up for something that's necessary and righteous.

You can make your own decision on that. But the minimum information again is email address (a webmail account like hotmail or yahoo will work, but any *.us domain name on the email address will not work), First name, last initial and ZIP Code.

P.S. If you're worried about logs on the email servers, you can further hide behind the FreeRepublic email proxy and use for the email. You need to donate here, and you'll get access to that email address through your profile here. I'm fairly sure that contributors still get a "vanity email" address here as {FReeper handle} that forwards to your registered email address.
