Skip to comments. Some diehards, after Christie, look to Cantor

Chris Christie's departure has left most of the Republican Party resigned to a choice between Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, but there are holdouts, and some of those holdouts are, I'm told, carrying a torch for a new figure: Eric Cantor.
The House Majority Leader, subject of a big New York Magazine profile this week, has given no indication at all that he'd run for president, and this seems extremely unlikely to change.
Nonetheless: "Youve got a lot of the same guys who were looking at Christie who still thinks theres an opening," said a prominent Republican operative. "A lot of their attention is focused on Eric. Hes telegenic, the president is elevating his profile, and hes somebody that serious people feel could enter into this race and fill some of the gaps."
Cantor's base among pro-Israel and Jewish donors many of whom were holding out hope for Christie is particularly enthused.

Translation: the career political hacks who gave us Ford, the Bush clan, Dole, & McCain. You're through, punks. The Republican Party will be taken over by the Tea Party, or it will die. We'll let you ride in the back of the bus, as you did with the conservative base for decades. Losers.
Liberal Mitt’s Greatest Hits: What Romney Doesn’t Want You to See
If someone needs to be drafted for this race, I’d be quite happy with Jim DeMint as the candidate.
I wouldn’t put Cantor in the same Rino club as Christie. He’s probably 80% conservative.
Eric Cantor? LOL.
Who reads (or writes this trash)? Romney or Perry..if not Christie, if not him RINO Cantor (Part of the failed ‘House Leadership’) Cantor??
The RINO establishment is grabbing at anyone, but a genuine conservative like Herman Cain!! I really dislike them.
Cantor is nothing but a Boehner suck-up. Total GOP establishment guy willing to compromise with leftists at the drop of a hat.
Cantor’s probably a strong choice for VP, but he’s not running.
50/50 at best, he is warmed over democrat lite. There would be no tarp except for his lying and whipping the issue, and today he tries to lie about his role. He was putting tax payers dollars in his wife’s bank account.
Please, no, no ,no. That whiney voice would turn folks off bigtime.
They only partially tolerate Romney as he disavowed all of those touchy social issues, i.e. abortion, gay relationships, etc. but are a bit squeamish about that "Mormon" stuff, I mean, that "prophet Joe Smith."
Nope, no social conservative, bible believing, man or woman of the people, why even DemocRATS don't believe in them!!!
Only someone who likes government, government rules, government taxes, government agencies and government perks for THEM - not the "little people."
I think that even the estabilshment realizes that romney won’t generate much enthusiasm or grass roots/TP activism so that’s why these other candidates are being floated. They realize that mclame’s crappy campaign couldn’t get enough conservatives out to vote and no one wants to go there again. The best campaigns have a comnbination of big money donors and a good ground game.
What about Paul Ryan?
I don’t know if Cantor is a RINO, but if RINO’s are begging him to run, that’s not a good thing.
I do know Mittens is a RINO.
I do know that Perry is NOT a RINO, but as far as I am concerned that’s about all he has going for him.
Right now Cain is the man...and that too could change, when Sarah gets in the race, the dynamics of all other candidates will change, and more than likely she will greatly minimize them, if they choose to remain in the contest.
