Brianna Amat crowned homecoming queen
PINCKNEY, Mich. (WJBK) - She's the first girl to kick on Pinckney's varsity football team. On Friday night, Brianna Amat kicked a 31-yard game-winning field goal and was crowned homecoming queen on the same night.

Amat was already a soccer star at Pinckney High. She told her soccer coach she wanted to kick footballs as well. Head football coach Dan Burholder was impressed, so he put her on the team. Friday night was Brianna's biggest game against Grand Blanc, who was ranked No. 7 in the state.
Brianna got a note at halftime telling her to come out of the locker room. To her surprise, she was crowned homecoming queen during the game.
With five minutes to play in the third quarter, facing a fourth and goal, Burkholder called Brianna to attempt a 31-yard field goal -- it would be her career best. She did it and Pinckney went on to beat Grand Blanc 9-7. The crowd went nuts, but Brianna says she only heard silence because she was so focused on the game. Amat plans to attend Western Michigan University and major in business advertising.
Pinckney is about 15 miles northwest from me. Knowing how seriously they take HS football in some of these areas, she can probably actually kick well.
After seeing that, the boys on the football team begged the coach to let her kick for the football team, but he (and mom) said no.
Because girls are making inroads and that is news and activism. Really doesn’t have anything to do with sports other than she can kick 40+ in practice.
Maybe she could play quarterback for the Cowboys.
Great Story!! Watch the video, it will cheer you up.
Maybe I'll post that in Sports Illustrated.
I saw her on Fox & Friends this morning.
Very pretty young lady, who seems centered with a good head on her shoulders.
Best of luck to her!
Maybe it is the activism component.
Girls are underrepresented in football at all levels of competition from Pop Warner to the Pro leagues, due to only to (in the minds of a few people) discrimination.
Title IX hasn't wiped out football yet, but there is yet hope for some.
(Only kidding...kind of...)
But a girl on a football team and Homecoming Queen? That is an interesting twist...:)
Since she is going into marketing, she would probably appreciate that it brought to mind "Hey...you got peanut butter in my chocolate!..."
