Those words were spoken today by Georgette Mosbacher, RNC Finance Co-Chair and huge GOP fundraiser, after Chris Christie’s announcement. The “we” is all the big bundlers, fundraisers, and money folks who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the field to be set — and that quote represents the coalescing around Mitt Romney that is expected to happen rather quickly now. Mosbacher went on to say:
“I think tomorrow, we’ll be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney… And I would say that the race is now Romney and Obama. Quite frankly, the enthusiasm wasn’t there at the outset. He’s less conservative than a lot of us would like. However, our first and foremost goal is to defeat Obama. And we do believe Romney, in terms of independents, will be a strong candidate. We will coalesce behind him now… the time has come to get behind him… Tomorrow I’ll be on the phone all day. Quite frankly, it’ll be easier, because now we know who it is who will be our nominee. So we will pull our Rolodexes out and get to work.”
Fellow bundler and sideline-sitter John Catsimatidis added, “I’m going to go with Mitt Romney. I don’t think Perry has it in him to do it. He’s a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better.”
Ouch.
In related news, Romney also scored another major fundraiser from the Draft Christie movement: Ken Langone. Langone is the founder of Home Depot and is described as a “titan” in the political money scene. He backed Rudy Giuliani in 2008, helping Giuliani out raise the other candidates. There is evidence that a great deal of the money that had sat on the sidelines so far in this race will now fall into Romney’s coffers.
Rick Perry, for his part, got the endorsement of another Draft Christie member: Gary Kirke, a west Iowa investor and casino owner who had also been sitting on the sidelines until this afternoon.

Romney is far from my choice also - but he's not a communist, not a mooseslime and not not committed to, or controlled by, people committed to destroying our country.
So you guys would rather give your vote to 'bumbles than vote for 'not your choice.'

I’ve qualified a few times on this thread that she has to run a good campaign to win. But she is the best natural politician our side has had in a generation and IMO the only one other than Romney capable of getting the nomination.
Close observers could have forecasted (and did forecast) a Romney v. Palin battle three years ago. That’s why Romney’s paid hacks didn’t even wait until McCain lost in ‘08 to go after Palin.

That’s not my point. I was disputing CW’s idea that Perry’s not siding with those tree huggers was evidence that he somehow wasn’t an often-enough GOP Establishment player.
Of course, being anti-environmentalist in Texas is no evidence of being outside the GOP Establishment at all!
Don’t forget the denial of his past. Also Perry and Romney are ahead because of women vote and support for a person’s looks.
Palin isn’t running, at this point, so my point was you gotta pick who you think are the next two best candidates.
If Palin does decide to run, you can always pick her and drop the lesser of your previous candidates.

Glad to hear that. Now explain why you continue to ignore legitimate FACTS about Perry ...say for example his ‘LIE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE’ that Gore was no radical eco when he supported him, when one Google search showed Gore on PBS NOVA years before that raving like an Earth First level lunatic?
That’s ONE. Now tell me why CONSERVATIVES should back a man willing to LIE to his potential voters when the truth is so easily discovered? That’s not ‘hate’, that’s a legit question about the trustworthiness of a candidate.
I await your answer to that SPECIFIC question. Then we’ll get to the many others you refuse to address.
