Most support gays serving openly in military, says CBS News poll

Just a few weeks after the implementation of the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," a majority of Americans say they support gays and lesbians serving openly in the military, according to a new CBS News poll.

According to the poll, 68 percent of Americans said they support gay and lesbians' rights to serve openly. Fifty percent said they "strongly" favored the idea.

Moreover, although many national Republicans leaders were against the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," more Republicans surveyed favor the idea of allowing gays and lesbians to serve in the armed forces openly than oppose it.

The poll shows that 48 percent of Republicans overall think gays and lesbians should be able to serve openly; 28 percent of those people said they favored the idea strongly.

Meanwhile, 41 percent of all Republicans opposed allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly- twelve percent of whom opposed the idea strongly, and 29 percent of whom opposed it only somewhat.

The numbers reflect little change in public sentiment since Congress repealed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in December 2010. Then, 50 percent of Republicans supported allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly, as did 69 percent of Americans overall, according to a CBS News poll.

Repeal of the 1993 law, which said gays could serve only if they kept their sexual orientations private, became official on September 20, 2011.

They only targeted certain members. Most family members could not participate because you had to have access to a government computer. If you didn’t have an invite you could not reply.

What’s scary is when you have a homo commander or officer. They have a lot of power.

Protecting our young from sexual perversion is not a matter of whether or not a majority (I question the polling)agrees or not. What is righteous is what matters and subjecting our young to being exposed to perverse behavior is not acceptable.

Yeah, yeah, SeeBS News. Whatever. It's a done deal. There's not putting the genie back in the bottle.

A little word of advice for our flowery little warriors, though; if you happen to get captured by the enemy (God forbid), ix-nay on the "I'm-may ay-gay", understand?

I'm just sayin'.

The military has a way of quietly changing rules so hopefully after a few years they will re-institute a DADT for everybody.

Kinda how the AF went from running to the bike test back to running(more)again for PT.

I’m sure they will say no displays of affection for anyone at any time except for your kids. No discussing your private life at any time etc.

Why don’t I find that surprising. I’m sure that the boots on the ground have a way of working these things out, they’re a pretty resourceful bunch.

What happens when it becomes apparent that certain officers are given certain personnel special privileges and getting away with it?

I don’t believe a word, or number, of it! When we fail to know or mention the very purpose of our national defence, we have lost sight of the way our srength is made strong.

To focus on sex and gender, especially same sex instead of how can we have a better military is a misplaced focus and value!

May God truly be: “In God We Trust” and a “One Nation Under God” and “Indivisible”

Why don’t we poll the ones that this policy affect directly?

That is what’s people don’t get. It’s not about working with them, it’s about sharing intimate facilities with them. I don’t care if my coworker is limp wristed, I’m not taking a shower with him watching.

They polled the wrong bunch. The ones most affected would be the single folks living in the barracks, combat soldiers, and deployed servicemembers. They polled home station folks, guard and reserve members. If you are out on patrol in the sand box you will not have the time to fill out a survey.

A married member at home station goes home to his or her spouse so they don’t have to deal with a homo/lesbo rooommate. Same, same for non-deployed guard or reservists.

The single ones are the ones most affected. I would not want a homo for a roommate.

The policy guidance is that the local management will have to deal with any issues if someone don’t want a homo roomate. This will only work until they run out of rooms.

“Should service members be forced to room with peers who are sexually attracted to them?”. Run that poll and see how it turns out.

The Air Force did surprise me as to how conservative they remain. They didn’t bite the PC apple. The navy is screwed in large measure, a good article about it is located here: http://www.newtotalitarians.com/index_files/Danzigization.htm

Exactly. No parent would want that. The enlistement rate would take a nosedive.

You can have a girlfiend or boyfriend but you can’t room together. They cannot be in your room after a certain time. As a matter of fact most dorms have a rule against opposite sex members visiting anyway.

When I was in Iceland the top floor of our barracks was all women and we were not allowed on the floor in the evenings because we had communal bathrooms.

Now you add open homos to the mix and all hell will break loose.

Because it’s not enough for the gays to force their depravity on us, they demand we approve of it, as well.
