[Jesse Jackson Jr] calls on Democrats to condemn Rick Perry over offensive word

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., called on House Democrats Tuesday at a closed Democratic Caucus meeting to approve a resolution critical of Texas Gov. Rick Perry for not having removed a racially offensive slur from a rock at his family’s hunting camp.

The racially charged name of the site, "N – head," was first reported in a Washington Post story Sunday.

The Perry presidential campaign disputed the account and said the rock with the offensive word at the entrance of the leased hunting area in Throckmorton County, Texas, had been painted over at Perry’s instruction in the early 1980s. The Post story cited seven people who had seen it and said the word was visible, even after it was painted over with white paint, as recently as this summer.

Jackson circulated a draft resolution Tuesday among Democratic members that condemns Perry and calls on him and all other GOP candidates who haven’t apologized, to do so. A Democratic staffer made a copy of the draft resolution available to McClatchy Newspapers.

GOP candidate Herman Cain, who is African-American, was sharply critical of Perry on Sunday talk shows for being "insensitive" on race.

Jackson spokesman Frank Watkins said that the lawmaker, the son of activist Rev. Jesse Jackson, made a case for a privileged resolution on the House floor condemning the Texas governor for tolerating the offensive word.

"He felt all Americans were offended by this," said Watkins. "They listened very carefully. There was rapt attention."

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said of Jackson, "This sounds like nothing more than a political ploy by someone who doesn’t have all the facts."

If Junior wasn’t a politician, he’d be a welfare queen. (Which basically is the same thing).

I’m a Perry supporter and no way in heck I think this is a plus. It’s a gotcha moment that is having effect and as long as it continues to have effect it will be kept alive by Perry’s opponents both republican and democratic.

This is going to help Perry in the long run. The more this thing is played both by the dims and opportunistic R’s the electorate will see the silliness. That he has all the right enemies on this ridiculous issue is apparent.

Sorry, my reply was about his father?! The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it! We should hold him responsible for what his father? said!

Perry's not my guy, but this is ridiculous.

But not unexpected. In fact it will only get worse.

The media knows Obama's only chance for re-election is if his opponent is LESS popular than he is.

And thats real unpopular.

Jesse Jackson Jr's dad, Jesse Jackson, was friends with Jim Hightower (campaigned for him), the man that Rick Perry unseated as Texas Agriculture Commissioner in 1989.

Sept 12, 2010 -- CAPTION WITH PHOTO: "A crowd of 6,500 to 7,000 gathered at Baraboo, WI on Saturday, September 11th, for the 9th Fighting Fest. By FOX News estimating protocols this would translate to about 500,000 people. The mood was serious and the speakers, as usual, both inspiring and informative. Pictured above are Jim Hightower, Jesse Jackson, and John Nichols. The general message was fight back, end the Afghan occupation, continue the struggle for single payer health care, and above all resist corporate fascism in American life. A particular item of interest the was despicable Citizens United Supreme Court decision which has essentially put the electoral process up for sale and the need to over turn this decision. Conspicuous by their absence was the mainstream media who normally would be all over the place if this was a Tea-Bagger event. C-SPAN however was present and I'm sure will roll some footage at 3:00AM some week night."

I have been under the impression that the offensive N-word was on a rock on a piece of property that the Perry’s leased for hunting. No one has said that Perry, his father, or any relative painted it on the rock. In fact, his father purposely painted OVER the word to try to remove it.

How in the world does this reflect poorly on Rick Perry? I’m not even a Perry supporter, and I am getting ticked off at the MSM for purposely misleading people about the facts.

Let me know if I have anything wrong, here.

A day late and a dollar short.

This is why we cannot let ANYTHING get between us and the retention of the House and the taking of the Senate.

NOTHING.

Jesse Jackson is pretty well kept in check by the current set up, but I want a Constitutional 3/4 majority in the House so that we can EXPELL Democrat members and pass Constitutional amendments.

I absolutely HATE it when something is MADE into a racist term/action when no racism exists at all. It was a word on a rock. A true racist (IMHO) has dislike for an entire group and that dislike rests in their heart. It is in their actions not something as trivial as a stupid rock. If they want me to believe that Perry is a racist then find some photos/accurate information that he is/was a member of the KKK or the Black Panthers. Then I will question his “racial” tendencies. Until then... this is beyond stupid.
