Opinion Chris Christie's Out and the Big Winner Is Herman Cain
FOX News ^ | 10/04/11 | Doug Schoen

Posted on 10/05/2011 8:48:50 AM PDT by freespirited

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's decision not to run for president is predictable and offers the possibility of changing the dynamic of the Republican primary election. With Florida, South Carolina, Nevada and New Hampshire all moving up the dates of their primaries and caucuses, it simply became impossible and impractical to raise the money and organize campaigns in those states in the less than 100 days that remain.

In the long term, the renewed speculation about Gov. Christie's candidacy can only raise his profile nationally as well as his stature in New Jersey where poll numbers have been steadily climbing in recent week. but the big news and the big story -- which has yet to be reported -- is what this announcement Tuesday means for the remaining nine candidates competing for the nomination.

And the big winner today is Herman Cain. Cain is the winner because he's the only candidate climbing in the in polls. In the Fox News poll released last week and the Washington Post poll released Monday, Cain is surging, more than doubling his prior level of support up to 16 or 17 percent.

Rick Perry has seen his support plummet. and Perry is now in an effective statistical tie with Cain for second place.

The front runner, Mitt Romney is at about 25 %, has been at 25% and shows no signs of being able to grow beyond twenty-five percent.

In plain English, he's stuck.

Another way to put it is that 3 in 4 Republican voters are not considering voting for a man who ran last time and has been the most visible and active and aggressive of the candidates competing now for the nomination.

I like Cain and find him to be a savy candidate. However, we are on a fixed income and I did the math..under his 999 plan our personal income taxes will go UP over 30 dollars a month and toss that in with the 9% national tax on everything we purchase...(gas included?)along with the military cola’s frozen, soc sec hits and I am curious as to his take on that? prescriptions for military retirees also went up the first of Oct. We do pay medicare A and B too.

Do you have income other than SS? That is taxed. How about capital gains from selling off stocks in your portfolio?

What portion of your budget is spent on sales-taxed goods, versus gas, rent/mortgage, medical insurance, etc.?

Keep in mind that if you depend on government checks, you depend on the economy being functional, so that those of us whose taxes you receive will still be sending them in.

Where do you get that SS is income taxable under the 9-9-9 plan?

I’m speaking here on the assumption that you aren’t an anti-Cain “concern troll.” They would be saying about the same as you.

Romney has the financial backing of the Mormon church and the Establishment! Let us hope that Mr. Cain will enjoy the financial support of everyone else! I am willing to back him. Please, FReepers, jump on the Cain Train with your wallets full. God is giving us a second chance!

But with Cain’s plan they would have to pay 9% tax on their SS

Why do you assume this?

Yes we do pay taxes on our SS if we have other income and not enough deductions to shelter us.

9-9-9 is only a stepping stone to get to a pure ‘fair-tax’ system. Since our economy is based on consumption, taxing new goods and services directly impacts how fast or slow it moves. Raise tax to slow economy down...lower them to speed it up. There is a limit to how high you can raise them or otherwise stall the economy completely (essentially self-limiting). The beauty of this system is that the tax rate is directly proportional to economic growth. No hidden taxes. No loop holes. No protected classes at the expense of others.

For Cain to win the Primary, he has to make the issue socialized medicine, as in: "Who can you trust to kill Obamacare?

1. Romney, of Romneycare? or

2. Cain, the Hillary Care Slayer.

We pay 1,300 a year each for medicare a and b deducted from our Social Security. Our main income in the military pension and under Cains plan our taxes on the military pension will go up. Pension was earned after 3 tours in Korea and 2 in Nam. Taking less wages than the civillian world would offer because of the perks...worked for less and under strenuous conditions. I resent paying more and having benefits cut and medicare UP under Obama and Panetta..but do not like the idea of higher taxes because of the cuts.

Yes, we pay taxes on the pension...where do people get the idea the military doesn’t pay taxes?

I will absolutely stunned and shocked beyond belief if Cain gets the nomination. It will be Romney. Book it.

(BTW, Cain would be far better but the GOP isn’t known as the “Stupid Party” for nothing. Romney will be the one.)

“•Business Flat Tax – 9% ◦Gross income less all investments, all purchases from other businesses and all dividends paid to shareholders. ◦Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for payroll employed in the zone. •Individual Flat Tax – 9%. ◦Gross income less charitable deductions. ◦Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for those living and/or working in the zone. •National Sales Tax – 9%. ◦This gets the Fair Tax off the sidelines and into the game.” http://www.hermancain.com/999plan Notice where it states indiv. income flat 9% tax on gross income with only charitable donations as deductible. That is where I got it, I read it off his website. I don’t see anything else on there that would exclude taxes on SS income.

Believe me..I am NO anti Cain troll. Are your facts based on the 999 plan or on your own “math”? I never said that SS was our main source of income...I clearly stated the military pension is our main income and has already faced increases by the current administration. We pay more than 1.3% of our income in taxes and resent your implication that our life and expentency is on the govt dole. We have NEVER accepted one red cent in charity, food stamps or anything else and have worked in the private sector and made contributions. I am pointing out that we will pay 30 dollars a month MORE in personal income tax under Cain’s 999 plan and wondered if there were more details on this..I could be wrong and have checked Cain’s site. Where do you get your info that the military does not pay taxes?

Well, ...I don’t have the best record for predicting who will win primary races, but I’m sticking with Cain on this one. Romney seems to be bottoming out exactly where he was the last time. The Tea Party makes this a whole new ballgame.

Perhaps you should be supporting Gary Johnson?

Romney’s been holding steady at around 25% since 2008.

That hardly makes him a shoe-in.
