SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A dozen inmates were sickened, including three in critical condition, in a suspected botulism outbreak after they drank alcohol brewed inside a prison cell, Utah health officials said Wednesday.
Eight male prisoners who were hospitalized had exhibited botulism symptoms and preliminary tests were positive for the disease in two of the men, said Dr. Dagmar Vitek, the medical director of the Salt Lake Valley Health Department.

Boo friggin hoo. . . .
Wow. Who could have anticipated something like that?
Morons.
Well the obvious fix for this is to let them have happy hour each day with gubment funded brews. It sure would help make the jailhouse whores look better /s
Drinking in Utah?
They’ll probably get a extra 5 year sentence for violating the states liquor laws.
“Whole body” botox is not pleasant.
You don’t brew alcohol, you brew beer. You DISTILL alcohol, which requires a still, heat and cooling water.
Are these all available in a prison cell?
I think it was a case of drinking rubbing alcohol.
They could then add another 3000 federal agents to the ATF to regulate the unneccesary regulations of a Government SWALLOWING up FREEDOM like a Hoover Vacuum. /sarc
“Pruno”.
The prison population there must be short of red neck Tennesseans and Mississippians. Where is the diversity?
Oh well.

Where is the FDA when you need them? Raiding an Amish farm for raw milk violations no doubt.
..or Texans..
I worked at a State Hospital in TX, and those folks had their favorite recipes, and nobody ever got sick..I think some of them even filtered William's 'lectric shave through white bread for a buzz.
I'm thinking that whatever they were brewing it in..trash can, perhaps? might have had the botulism spores in it to begin with.
Sick on buck?? Can’t imagine that... fruit, sugar, and heat....
You got that right. Years ago in a ROP country far far away we “brewed” up some really goode stuff in large glass carboys that once held acid. (Yes we rinsed them multi-times.) More like fruit wine I guess. We had 3 or 4 ready to bottle carboys twice a month. Nice stuff and was really enjoyed by all on Saturday nights —— to include ROP guests! The great home brew beer was another story! (Love those one liter juice bottles with the ceramic snap top corks.)
Note to self: (Important!) should try in future attempts to use yeast instead of botulism organisms in future batches.
Doa!
Doa!
Doa!
So if you’re a prison inmate in Utah, and your blockmate a few cells down is making pruno, do you need to get a membership card to go in his cell and get some?
