Iranian Warship Route To U.S. Coast Reportedly Leaked Online

Last week, an Iranian Naval Commander threatened to deploy ships off the U.S. coast as a provocative show of force.

Now it looks like Iran might actually be serious.

A new map that allegedly shows the expected path of the Iranian Naval expedition to the U.S has leaked online from an Iranian website, according to MEMRI.

The unprecedented route for the Islamic Republic would take Iranian ships through the Suez Canal and into the warm waters of the Caribbean, a total nautical distance of approximately 9000 miles. According to MEMRI, Iranian media sources claim:

“In this new and feasible mission, the ships of the navy of the Iranian Army will sail west, towards the Strait of Gibraltar, after they enter the Mediterranean. Subsequently, they will enter the Atlantic Ocean, and from there they must traverse the long distance to their destination off Cuba, in the Gulf of Mexico, and Central and South America.”

They’ll need rescuing before they get half way here.

I miss George W. Bush. For yet another reason.

I'm reminded about the Air Force fighter pilot flying a recon mission near the Iranian border. He was radioed by Iranian Air Control (IAC). It went something like:

IAC: US Air Force fighter jet...you are in Iranian airspace. Leave immediately!

US Pilot: IAC, I'm am in Afghan airspace.

IAC: US pilot...you are in Iranian airspace. If you do not leave immediately, we will dispatch our jets and shoot you down.

US Pilot: Send ‘em up...I'll wait.

IAC: (static...)

what do the Ranies have? frigates? can they make it across the Atlantic w/o refueling? I don’t imagine they have tankers, it’s a cute little coastal navy, not a blue-water fleet.

This is a ruse. They are delivering long range missiles to their ally Hugo Chavez.

I wish the navy would make their frigate disappear out there, then they could just say: "Yep, triangle got em."

So will they be able to maneuver with that US nuclear sub hugging their hull?

That recurring email is usually attributed to a U.S. Marine Corp F-18 pilot.

This jihadist ship is on a one-way trans Atlantic cruise. No refueling required.

That's where you are wrong. Yes it's a coastal fleet with no warship bigger than a light frigate - which rate no more than corvette staus by today's standards.

But back in the day, the Shah had ambitions, and while the mullahs cancelled most of those ambitions, they did take delivery of the Kharg, a big Olwen class replenishment ship.

And with 1700 tons diesel (plus 18000ton fuel oil for its own boilers), it could shepherd one of those frigates around the world, twice.

Since an expired tag simply means overdue taxes (the tag is still intact and works to ID the car)..it's all about money and it converts the cops into "armed tax collectors".

Could you imagine Iran daring to do this with Ronald Reagan in the White House?

If that's the case, I stand corrected. It's been a while since I read the story...

Captain Ramius: We will pass through the American patrols, past their sonar nets, and lay off their largest city, and listen to their rock and roll... while we conduct missile drills.

Of course they are. They will get support form Cuba, Venezuela, China and Russia.

They have to do this fast, since the next election is in 2012 and they have to get this done while an America-hater is in office.

Once those missiles are scattered around the Gulf, it’s going to be tough to undo the damage to our security.

I think that an attack submarine should meet them in the mid Atlantic and sink them all. No fuss, no muss. They just disappear.
