Last night, Sarah Palin's statement -- and her breaking news interview with Mark Levin -- stressed some extremely important ideas. As such, her not running might well be among the least important topics she touched on. Yes, I know that's the news that everybody was waiting for -- but what interested me most was what Palin said about her vision for America and how she said it. It was crafted very intentionally --and it was simply pitch-perfect. Palin spoke of ideas and priorities. These were above and beyond what particular position she -- or anyone else -- might play in our arena of ideas. That she's still very much in the arena -- and planning on making a difference -- is obvious.

Note to the Wizard and seohyc, this is how a thinking MAN reacts to last night's statement by Governor Palin.
I heard the interview and was extremely dissapointed but I do believe she will be a great campaigner for whoever gets the nod and extremely instrumental in helping to keep them in line with their “promises”.

I am bereft with no where to turn.
If I was ruled by emotion I would be very very upset. However, I cannot allow emotions to rule in this case. Sarah if she ran could have won and trounced Obama as would any candidate that the GOP put forward. Sarah will work harder than the nominee to get recruits elected to stifle the liberal agenda and turn this country around. If her success rate is as good as the last cycle we could have a veto proof Senate and another 75 more conservative seats in the House. So with the help of Jim Demint and dare I say Karl Rove’s Crossroads PAC. We should be encouraged and look forward to watching it happen and participate in the process. Sarah ain’t going anywhere and neither should we right?
This is a good statement from her. I was not as emotionally involved with the Palin candidacy as a lot of people here, but evidently many people placed a lot of unrealistic hopes in her personally and she had moved from being a political figure with good ideas and possibly the ability to carry them out to being some kind of savior. I don’t see much difference between that and the people who burst into tears and fainted every time Obama came out on stage.
I wonder if perhaps she realized this - and she didn’t like it. I think she is genuinely committed to her ideas, not to being anybody’s personal savior, and perhaps she saw leaving politics this time around as being the best way of separating the two.
It will be interesting to see what she does next.

4. Is “our Sarah” still living in their heads rent free 24/7 driving them crazy while she does it her way, or are they chrarging her rent while she does not drive them crazy and does not do it her way?

Later in her interview she discussed her hate for crony capitalism. She would surely be better able to rail against it from outside rather than from within. She is not going awway.
Wrap up everything that is Sarah Palin, and stuff it all into a body politic, and that is what we need in a leader today.
I do believe the most important thing we can take away from her announcement is the part about NOT running third party as she is actually saying the Republican’s weren’t going to let her run on the ‘R’ ticket. The RINO leadership entrenched in that party are in it for Romney. He bought and paid for that protection. She would have tromped the bastard. Nobody else in the running could kick Romney’s butt like she could.
That’s my take on it. Flame away.
With her decision, she is in a better position to be the Mom her children need her to be and maybe she and Todd and their family can finally enjoy some peaceful time out of the spotlight of media speculation and hatred.
I believe she was waiting to see if a candidate other than Romney or Perry would move forward. I think if Cain hadn’t surged, she would have run.
I think she (rightly) believes she can do more good doing what she is doing and she will try to ensure Romney and other RINOs will not be our candidate.
If Romney were to get elected, she knows exactly where to apply pressure. If she were to run she would be pressured to be “attractive” to moderate voters. I don’t think she wanted to fight that battle and I don’t think that is her mission.
Her mission is to effect change in the way our government works, no compromise. If she were on the inside, who, with her influence, could keep up that kind of pressure on the outside without fear of reprisals from the press and the electorate? No one.
Let me be the first to call for Palin as head of the RNC. Lord knows we MUST get rid of the current a$$hat.
I think you are correct about her not wanting to be idolized, but the millions of dollars she was making doing appearances surely had an impact too.
I’m wondering what is unseen in Palin’s decision here — were she and her family threatened to “stand down or else” by very very powerful people???

I agree with you. I don’t think the elites were going to let her near the nomination. She would have had to fight them, the press, the left and Obama. She is MUCH freer to state the truth by not running.
That thought crossed my mind too.

What is the half-life of a 1/2 term governor and VP candidate on a losing ticket? Five years? Perhaps six and after that, pffft.
