Hank Williams Jr. and his iconic theme song will not return to ESPN's "Monday Night Football," the network announced Thursday.

“After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision,” he wrote. “By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It’s been a great run.”
ONE OF THEM WAS MINE. SCREW THOSE BUTT KISSERS AT ESPN.
Apparently, ESPN is with Hitler.
OK Hank, Now give ‘em hell. Tell ‘em that espn is a Leftist tool!
Let’s all sing together “Take that job and shove it”!
No biggie. I actually found the intro very annoying and turned the channel until kickoff. Since NBC landed the Sunday Night contract, their games have been much better, anyway. The Faith Hill intro is just as abrasive and I tune it out, as well.
Stupid move. Stupid, stupid move ESPN. If he had said that about Pres. Bush he’d be a hero today. Your bias is showing ESPN.
Stand up and get crunk.
I think I am done watching ESPN.
That will be hard for me, although I felt the same way when they booted Rush.
I think I'll start by just turning down the sound.
Hank was right on, although using Hitler to make his point, probably wasn't the best way to do it.
Want in the world did he say that this happened?
Did the DNC part ways with MoveOn.org when they ran a television ad comparing Bush to Hitler?
Did MSNBC fire Rachel Maddow when she defended the MoveOn.org ad comparing Bush to Hitler?
Did the DNC reprimand Congressman Keith Ellison D-MI when he compared Bush to Hitler?
I like Hank, and I like what he said while on TV with the faux three stooges .
What I do not understand is why do so many of these people make admirable and bold statements and then apologize?????
Is there a trend here?
Are they being systematically threatened somehow? Do they all lack the courage of their convictions? If so, are they too disappointed and surprised (at themselves).
Smell something fishy in all of this, folks?????
In any case, Hank Williams Jr... another American folk hero!
MNF sucks now anyway. The games aren’t very good, the announcers are GARBAGE, and the fact you HAVE to have cable to watch it is asinine.
I applaud HWJr for standing firm regarding the Constitution. Still, it bears repeating for all such entertainers: Shut up and sing!
And I thought The History Channel was "The Hitler Channel."
If I want to watch football I'll watch college.
Its OK for ESPN on air personalities to Twitter rape jokes about Sarah Palin with no penalties whatsoever, but a none employee isn’t allowed to use an innocuous analogy about the most anti- American president we have ever had as a country.....Typical reaction from a garbage organization.
I am sympathetic to williams obviously, but why do people keep confusing the first amendment with private networks/organizations? The only place on tv it applies to my knowledge is public access channels.
“Stand up and get crunk.”
LMAO! I wonder if Hank owns the rights to his song now.
>>> I applaud HWJr for standing firm regarding the Constitution.
Except this is not a Constitutional issue. The state did not prevent him in any way from making his statement. He is free to repeat it as often as he likes.
Hank won’t be the only one not returning to any ESPN event. Those folks have let their Commie colors hang out too often.
I would have much rather been watching the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup this weekend.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way on both intros. They seem like they just go on forever. I did like the Saturday Night Live parody of the Sunday Night Football intro "There will be touchdowns, that's a guarantee 'cause the game already started and it's fourteen to three."
The only time I watch is when my team is on TV. If I want to watch pundits, I'll watch Big 10 Network.
LOL.......I miss the great intro music they had on all the networks back in the 70s....you can go to Youtube and here them again.
I was regarding his perceived offense regarding HIS rights to free speech. He stands on conservative ground but not entirely Constitutional grounds.
If your cable company provides it, ESPN3 is great for watching college football and basketball. You can watch four games at one time.
You don’t need ESPN on your TV cable.
For $6 you can watch the MLB divisional playoffs on MLB.com with different camera angles and commentary from TBS.
Us Americans out here are now finished with ESPN. You can a man for speaking the truth...then it’s FUESPN.
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 are all owned by the same company. Watching any of them lines the coffers of all of them.
The Walt Disney Company owns the ABC Television Network, cable networks including ESPN, the Disney Channel, SOAPnet, A&E and Lifetime, 277 radio stations, music and book publishing companies, production companies Touchstone, Miramax and Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar Animation Studios, the cellular service Disney Mobile, and theme parks around the world.
My word. Thanks for filling me in on this.
How many times was Mr. Bush compared to Hitler?
Well, I seldom watch ESPN anyway.
Good for Hank, Jr.
I realize that they are owned by the same company but I can’t afford to go to games in person so I’ll just have to deal with it. Besides there are no commercials on ESPN3.
My cable company is my internet provider and it comes with it so in a way I am giving some money to ABC.
I mainly got rid of most of my cable channels because of the all the commercials which are the same and repeated on all the channels.
Without Hank, maybe ESPN will introduce MNF with Obama coming out and giving a speech and telling us how he’s going to tax the millionaires (players) and the billionaires (owners) and the economy will be just fine and dandy.
I’d sure like a list of lefties that “lost their gig” for calling Bush “Hitler”...
you could write that list in 24 pt font and stick it in your eye without noticing.
Poor Hank...there was no doubt he’d get canned after his Obama-Hitler analogy. It’s the same of bull spit though. Jimmy Hoffa calls death to the T-Party when introducing Bam and Bam says nothing. For years the left called Bush Hitler and nobody said a word. Pray to God that come next Nov. we can remove this cancer from our once great nation.
I keep saying ... if Hank Williams had simply changed the order of the names in his comparison he’d be a hero to the left.
Thank you! I stand with Hank, but I looked over and over for the part of the U.S. Constitution that gives you rights to sing on a nationally broadcast football game.
“Us Americans out here are now finished with ESPN. You can a man for speaking the truth...then its FUESPN.”
i doubt that many Americans who currently watch the NFL or ESPN will stop watching NFL games or ESPN.
And for those that do stop watching ESPN, the NFL and ESPN will not care as chances are that you are not a desirable viewer for the advertisers.
