"Nothing especially risky about gold"

When dollars become worthless, GOLD will become the currency/barter commodity. You got it; then those who lose their government assistance will take what is "theirs".

We are in a rural area. We have a conservative community, but we have liberal loons, too.

We have actually discussed this scenario. Here’s the synopsis:

We foresee needing additional labor and security. Gasoline or the ability to make biofuel would always be welcomed. Skills, tools, spare parts. We can all see the possibility of running out of whatever we have stockpiled, so additional consumables would always be welcomed. Having your own RV/travel trailer would be a plus. Our barns are for the stock or are our own shops where we make whatever we need for our own barter/sale/production economy.

Bear in mind, the times have made everyone way less trusting. Anyone relocating needs to understand they will have to prove themselves as honest, honorable, reliable, hard-working and willing to give, as well as receive.

Use the PMs to stock up and whatever time is left to choose a place to buy, now. Don’t wait until it is so bad that refugees are everywhere. By then, we will have barricaded highway exits. Trust me, there are great properties for sale at good prices, mostly from seniors who want to retire or are disabled and ill and need to go live with children elsewhere. It takes time to get to understand a community and rural communities are full of interlocking families, friends and *adopted* family. We have been inundated with liberals in the past 25 years and so, we tend to be stand-offish. It is good to get to know some of us before things get ugly. You basically get to know us by patronizing our businesses. Customers/clients are valued in these times and we share among ourselves our impressions of the newer ones. Assess the area and find a niche of your own. There are likely to be skills we would appreciate and as a businessperson, you would eventually have a customer base of your own. As folks age or become infirm, new skilled replacements are desirable.

We aren’t poor or unprepped, either. We all have many skills, tools, food, resources of all sorts, including PMs. People are not just going to mosey in and find us panting to sell you homemade bread from hand ground wheat raised down the way in return for gold. Renting living space to a stranger compromises our own security.

Anyone finding themselves still anxious about living in an urban/liberal locale, needs to assess the situation from all angles, including if they can support themselves elsewhere. If you have made a profit to date on PMs, the dollar is relatively strong for the moment and, if Europe crashes, it will get stronger and PMs will decline. If we were in that situation, we would be out finding the place to hunker down, now, using our PMs to facilitate the transition. If it takes longer than a few weeks to crash, time is on your side.
