INDIANAPOLIS -- A Saudi Arabian passenger who tried to get into the cockpit of an American Airlines flight from New York to Indianapolis didn't appear on any terror-related watch lists, authorities said.

Indianapolis airport police said another passenger grabbed the 20-year-old man's arm and directed him back to his seat on the flight before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the man claimed to be a student at the University of Indianapolis and seemed confused when a flight attendant asked him what he was doing. The university told 6News on Thursday that he is not and has never been a student at the school.

A police report indicated that the man flew from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Doha, Qatar, before arriving in the United States.

As a former commercial flight attendant, I truly appreciated the passengers who were proactive in defending us and passengers from abusive people. I saw one an elderly woman using a walker, who was preboarding as a ‘person who needs a little more time in boarding’, and a man shoved her aside so he could preboard for first class. He was tackled by some men who saw him manhandle grandma.

The men who watched out for me in first class when I was confronted by agressive or angry passengers always got ‘care packages’ of minis as a thank you.

One time when the passengers were deplaning, I was at the back of the airplane and was attacked by a man who was enraged because one of his huge bags was checked to his destination. It was too big to fit on the plane but he was so angry he punched me in the chest so hard I flew up in the air and hit the bustle that held the slide and hit the floor. I was so stunned that I couldn’t do anything, not even scream. I couldn’t identify the man- he looked just like George Costanza- short, fat, bald guy with wirerim glasses.

Glad to be a corporate flight attendant now. I don’t have to deal with a-holes and terrorists.

Dang more research to do .. a unnamed (in article) twenty year old (from our friend and ally saudi) attempted to gain access to the flight deck (this has never happened before), lied about going to school here in the U.S.A., and was let go. The things nightmares on passenger airlines are made of.

Sounds like this guy needs to go back to jihad school for more training. Or maybe Holder and Napolitano can arrange to train him here.

Drudge has the story up now from a different source, it gives the guys name and also gives the name of the passenger who “escorted” him back to his seat.

Kudos to him.

They need to install an airlock with fore and aft locking doors just behind the coclpit with a dump door that opens straight down. The dump door can only be operated by the pilot or co-pilot.

LOL, I would just LOVE to be in the conference room at Boeing when the airline rep asked them how much that “option” would run.

The looks on their faces would be priceless.

You cannot imagine how many people try the cockpit door thinking it’s the lav.

Once, before 9/11, I was sitting on the jumpseat when a white haired lady approached the area. I thought, and she thought, she was about to go into the lav. She gave a tug on the door and....wrong door! Surprisingly, it opened. It was the cockpit.

I don’t know who was more surprised..she or the pilots! I’ll never forget the look on her face when she said, “Oh my!”

Note to self ... Abdulaziz Mubarak Alshammari, 20 years, saudi, flew from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Doha, Qatar, to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York before heading to Indianapolis.

gleamed from Drudge article.

There should be a mechanism for a speedy airport trial of these folks; and subsequent execution if twelve random people drafted as jurors believe what witnesses tell them.

And he was still unhurt / alive when the place landed??

Maybe our exalted law enforcement officials know more than they're letting on, but people that act like that at least need a serious hurt, if not something more severe.

Yeah. When caught, pull the “stupid foreigner who doesn’t understand English” bit.

You are correct. There would have been no suspicion (huge ? mark) if perp had told the truth, but in this case perp told a lie thinking nobody would check? Thankfully, the flight-deck door was locked. Agree (with other posters), if this keeps up somebody is going to hurt one of these perps. Probably rightfully (imho).

He’s lucky my husband wasn’t on that plane. He’s changed seats with people in order to be close to suspicious looking passengers.
We were on a cross country flight right after 9/11 and the lead flight attendant was a friend of ours. When she saw my husband she breathed a sigh of relief.
