Emily gets her gun
The Washington Times ^ | Oct 5, 2011 | Emily Miller

I want a gun. I don't feel safe living in Washington, D.C. and want to protect myself. I'm starting today by going down to City Hall to find the gun permit office to tell them, "I want a gun." This series will follow me as I navigate the city bureaucracy and outdated rules in order to legally buy a firearm.

My desire for a gun started when I had to face down over a dozen criminals on an empty cul de sac in Washington, D.C., armed only with a Blackberry.

SNIP

I was alone in an empty house with a useless dog. I spent the night in the master bedroom with a dresser pushed up against the inside of the door. I didn't sleep much. I kept thinking how safer I would feel if I had a gun next to the bed.

The next day, I took to Twitter to ask about how to get a gun. The replies were disappointing: "No 2nd amend in D.C." "Only one guy can sell weapons in DC- good luck with that." "Call the NRA." I knew that the Supreme Court had recently overturned the Washington's gun ban, so I didn't understand why gun owners were so down on my idea. My friends came back the next day, but I sill wondered why I couldn't get a gun.

SNIP

"A GUN. I want a gun." I said emphatically. "I don't know what's going on in this city, but apparently no one is listening to the Supreme Court."

Getting a gun will be next to impossible. Even if she gets one she will have to keep it locked up in her house.

Move, Emily. Move now.

CW2 will not be kind to blond airheads who live in carjack range of the 'hood.

From her Twitter ...

I was looking at the Washington Times website to see if I could get automatic updates on her columns but I don't see a way. Guess I'm stuck with Facebook or Twitter.

Realize this comes from the perspective of a senior citizen, but I call 100% NOT GUILTY.

So someone let her housesit, and she proceeded to go for a walk while consciously deciding to leave the door unlocked.

Not sure if she’s precisely what I’d call gun-owning material.

Fearless prediction: Emily won’t be getting her gun in D.C. in time. Events are accelerating. All Hell is about to break loose. Waiting for a bureaucratic decision on what is an unalienable right is a losing proposition. As stated, Emily needs to move. Now.

Good article. Pretty lady as well.

My advice to her. Look to the South. It's the Potomac River. On the other side is Virginia. They still respect the 2nd Amendment there. DC may have overturned the ban, but there are more hoops to jump through than the EPA.

Based on her other column, I highly recommend she goes to an NRA firearms instructor as well.

I appreciate her exercising her right to bare arms, too. :)

LOL! Obviously age has only sharpened your NOT GUILTY/GUILTY skills :-)

She has a hotlink to her Facebook account in the Washington Times article. She already has an update but I haven't had time to read it yet.

What says that a portion of the country won’t set up similar to the Tri-States or SUSA from Johnstone’s series?

However, Washington DC and other strategic urban areas would be considered targets during a limited nuclear war against the Russians and Chinese.

Not sure if she’s precisely what I’d call gun-owning material.

On top of that...an enterprising bad guy will know when she gets her gun...because she's gonna write about it...and he can come take it away from her.

Not smart to advertise...
