Editorial: What's Behind The Bank Protests?
IBD Editorials ^ | October 6, 2011 | Editor

Posted on 10/06/2011 4:15:28 PM PDT by Kaslin

Socialism: The mob assaults against our banking system by unemployed leftists and their political allies are part of a larger strategy to control the commanding heights of our economy. And we'll all be much poorer for it.

The White House has thrown in with the anticapitalism crowd, and banks had better watch out. You only had to hear President Obama's cynical, politicized expressions of sympathy for the unwashed legions "occupying" Wall Street this week to be worried.

"Not only did the financial sector, with the Republican Party in Congress, fight us every step of the way," Obama said at his news conference Thursday. "But now you've got these same folks arguing we should roll back all those reforms and go back to the way it was."

But no criticism of the demonstrators.

In fact, added Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, "We are going to push back harder," making what sounds like a fairly explicit threat against the banks.

Welcome to class warfare, 2011-style. Obama's ratings have never been lower, and administration policies leading to a dead-in-the-water economy with 9%-plus unemployment are incredibly unpopular.

So he must think his only hope for re-election is to somehow tie the GOP to fat-cat bankers on Wall Street and then convince voters that the banks are to blame for all their ills.

Sound cynical? It is. But this is what Obama and the Democrats are doing. They've even put out a video: "Republicans: On the Side of Wall Street, not Consumers."

They will support him now because he is in office, if the GOP can mount a big enough threat, the money will dry up. They are donating to him now, because they think he may win again.

American dream is dead?? What in the f&ck are you talking about you communist idiot? The American dream is alive and well, the American worker just needs the federal government to get it’s boot off of their collective necks.

Go peddle your Marxism elsewhere.

The simple fact is that American workers (our workers) in just about every field have been screwed by “the system”. Anyone who can command a decent wage according to supply & demand will find the supply skewed by government & corporate interference to either flood the market with foreign workers (in defiance of our laws) or by sending the work overseas

What some of these people will not admit, is most private sector wages have been totally stagnate for a decade...If they still have jobs...College educations mean little anymore when they can get foreign college educated for much less.

Wages for the past decade are simply sad joke, totally stagnate, not keeping up with skyrocketing prices....

Phony employer incentives, fraudulent unobtainable commissions, and prizes in lieu of deserved raises. Millions others lost their careers, and all medical benefits...

They've been laid to waste.

When you said most workers today are screwed, you're not joking....Today's workplace is a meat grinder, where good employees are just dumped in mass like yesterdays trash.

Those how think these are all some kind of Communist, are not paying attention or are totally detached from reality.

It's not just the Left. There's a whole tradition on the Right of blaming banks and bankers for everything (including Communism). See the Jeffersonian Republicans, Louis T. McFadden, Father Coughlin, Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh [Sr. and Jr.], social credit, distributism, Ezra Pound, Eustace Mullins, etc.). Even here on FR there are people who say that the trouble with the Fed is not that it is a socialistic state interference in the banking industry but a "privately-owned monopoly" (rhetoric right out of late nineteenth century Populism).

You're very knowledgeable about this stuff, wideawake. Anything to add?

“Red China has no future; that is why the slaves are more than happy to come here”

I’m talking about all kinds of Asians. Japan, Singapore, Chinese in America, etc. Most non-Asian Americans just don’t care about education, especially math and science, and that has to change.
Now, here’s a guy who grew up in the segregated south, majored in math and computer science and worked his way up by cleaning toilets and flipping burgers. He wasn’t looking for excuses.

You obviously don’t live in the northeast; it gets worse here every day, with nobody proposing any solutions. I detest communists, but am not so ignorant as to underestimate them and their appeal to desperate people.

Do you think that the root cause is greed? Liberal entitlement mentality? What?

I believe that we’ve lost our way due to liberal ideology and I have a hard time feeling sorry for folks who bring consequences like this on themselves.

I’m self sufficient with or without money. I make my own way. Why should I feel an obligation to a group that has been too dumb to understand the consequences of their own selfish actions? Consequences they’ve been warned about.

Did people really think that a society that allows the murder of babies would succeed? Did they really think that accepting homosexuality would make things better? That open borders is a good idea? That religion could be discarded without consequence? Fools. What did they expect?

You’re right, but I’m getting flamed for even suggesting something’s wrong. I live in northern NJ, and things are bad here; they haven’t even repaired many roads after last winter’s damage, and we’re getting ready for another winter...

Oh come now..

Ya think fatcorps taking tens of hundreds of thousands of jobs to Mexico and Communist countries are honorable and are doing so for their efficiency? No, it's because they work for dirt cheap, they pay little taxes, get around the regs and their new workers think company benefits mean at 10 minute break...

Couldn’t agree with you more in terms of Americans and their education; I also think a second language (any language, as long as it has a practical application) doesn’t hurt. I was a janitor for years in high school & college; it certainly kept me focused & doing my homework. I just think a lot of people who worked just as hard have been unemployed for some time now; the jobs math just doesn’t work out in terms of positions available and qualified applicants.

A hundred years of creeping socialism eventually turns in to equal misery for all.

Leave NJ.

Ya got to understand, there are millions in this country that have no desire to change anything...Millions more, outside military, collecting lottery style government tax paid retirement pensions...They don't want change...They simply don't give a damn... Off shore tens of hundreds of thousands of American jobs, they flood the country with foreign college educated who work for cheap...They get the job....

Not enough?

Flood the GD country with 30 million low wage illegal aliens how have driving down the wages in entire industries...

To: Alas Babylon!

He has lost independents... he has lost women... he has lost much of his white guilt support... pain is more powerful than PC... and Americans just do not like him any longer. He will get the black vote and the gay vote and the leftist of all flavors vote... but it will not be enough for him to even show... unless... the republican blue blood elite get their man romney in the catbird seat... then many sit out the election and obama wins in a landslide. That is what you should be concerned about IMHO.

Greed is the root cause of most misery; entitlement mentalities make it worse. You don’t have to feel any obligation to anyone; you just can’t pretend that they’re not there (or that they don’t vote) - that was McCain’s lesson in 2008. As far as warnings, nobody plainly stated the fact that no matter what you study or skills you obtain, forces are constantly at work to have this done by someone who will live 10 to an apartment eating meat once a week. I’m still working, and keeping current on my bills; I can’t pretend that others are so lucky (and yes, luck has plenty to do with it).

I agree with you on the morality issue, but don’t see a direct correlation; in fact, many of the most evil people can be financially successful. The punishment is due in the afterlife, though sometimes it comes a bit early.

“Ya think fatcorps taking tens of hundreds of thousands of jobs to Mexico and Communist countries are honorable and are doing so for their efficiency? “

Nope. Honor has nothing to do with it. Where, in society today, is honor instilled?

Having a baby inconvenient? Kill it.
Feel like you don’t get enough? Steal.
Don’t feel like working? Don’t, collect a check.
Don’t like the results of your own actions? Blame everyone else.

This garbage is not only common, it’s accepted.

Cause and effect.

"It’s class warfare... we fight their hysteria with facts. They’ll hate that.."

Where? In the State-Run-Media? That's gonna get about as much air-time as all the Tea Party events, all the Clinton Impeachment events by Patriots, etc.

The Internet is the ONLY place you can find the truth, and you gotta dig it out. Those nightly "NEWS" watchers, indoctrinated youth, and the Socialist wannabe's all watch the State Run Media and listen as if it's true....that's what got us here.

Obama won’t win in a landslide if Mitty gets the R nomination.

His win will look like this:

Baraq 42%
Mitty 37%
Tea Party 21%

A Clintonian plurality like 1992.
