Several hundred people displeased with the current economic and political climate marched from Mid-City to Lafayette Square today, carrying signs and chanting as part of a movement to protest corporate power that began three weeks ago in New York City. Occupy New Orleans, one of more than 80 local spinoff protests from the Occupy Wall Street demonstration, is loosely organized and does not represent a single philosophy or desire.
I guess their turn out was not so great.
300? Hell, Orleans Parish Prison books that many on any holiday. Meh.
300? Were they all Spartans?
Who exactly is funding this “Occupy _______ City/Street/Etc.” Movement?
300! Whoa dat good!
I predict by fat tuesday they will have a throng of protester
WoW. 300? That’s like twice as many more than the number of Tea Baggers who marched on the Capitol 9/12/09 according to some lame stream media reports.
Reptile abuse! . . . . Just saying.
I’ll cook a gumbo on the corner of 8th and St. Charles and draw more than that.
Proof that even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.
No kidding! The French Qaurter mustered about eight times that number in 1995 to get more police coverage in the Eighth District. Of course that was shut up sharpish in the media.
Seafood or chicken?
Where are all the hippies!! My horse is getting ancy!
Still in the dark blue uniforms. I will never get used to it.
Courthouse in the back?
Was that today? I meant to go downtown and yell “Throw me somethin’ mister!” when they went by.
Some still wear the powder blue. I don’t know what the criteria is for which uniform to wear.
No that’s just a picture I found on the internet. I doubt these stinky hippies would rate the NOPD getting their horses out. Besides, the smell would be repulsive to the horses.
Well that is good to hear.
Your thread is making me miss the place though. First time in years. *sigh*
Crescent City Brewhouse still there?
The Crescent City Brewhouse is still here but from what I understand from talking to people who have been here longer than me it has changed a lot from how it used to be.
Gumbo!! I’ll be part of that crowd.
Which telephone booth did they occupy?
So was there a ‘Second Line’?
I'm wondering if they threw any beads or doubloons...
In the 30’s the National Socialist Party in Germany used the Jews as the scapegoats for their economic woes. They had mobs in the street protesting the Jews. In 2011 Obama is using Wall Street and the rich as the scapegoats for the economic woes that he can not solve. He has mobs in the streets protesting the rich. The rich are Obama’s Jews.
We know what happened to the scapegoats of the National Socialists ended up. Is this where Americas rich will end up? There is precedent Mao, Castro, Che, Pol Pot, etc.
Go to their facebook page and look at their photos. As white as a tea party rally but mostly early 20-somethings.
Krewe of Losers! If they didn't throw anything, I'm guessing no one paid them any attention, except the MSM.
?? You don’t like gumbo?
Mitch Landrieu supports the Occupy movement.
Some protesters filmed him as he talked casually saying “I’m glad y’all are doing this”.
WOW! There was at least a half a dozen protesters there that I could see! What a strong showing Mitch!
