Yeah, too hard sitting on their collective butts as they scrutinize innocent travelers for any excuse to hassle same so they can point and say "see, we're doing our job".
What about even younger children, they will have NO ID to match their boarding passes!
Oh, I know, now there will be a national ID required for kids, another way to waste more money.
Really traditional? Unless the shooter is using something huge a bullet will have no effect on cabin pressure. Odds of severing a hydraulic line or other control are minimal. Do you actually believe you are safe when you fly because of the TSA and HS? If you do you are living in La La land. Your statement is straight out of the liberal play book.
But do they have any idea what is in much of the freight and luggage that they haul for common carriers and other passengers in the cargo bays? Maybe they do now but they didn’t.
This WOT is not only wearing thin, but breaking the bank. Most of the methods are about convincing the masses that they are doing something, but basically they are ineffective, and in the process they treat and consider each one of us as a terrorist.
But if only someone in our trillion dollar defense and intel budget would have prevented these 19 Arabs with box-cutters from doing what they did. Then these trillions of dollars that we’ve frittered away since, with security agents strip searching our children, babies and wives, and giving fliers who use Bill instead of William, a hard time would NEVER EVER have been justified or tolerated.
This all strikes me as perfect example for the frog in the slowly heated pot analogy.
I made it small enough so that it would get "lost" mixed in with the other gear in my laptop bag. In other words I hid it in plain sight and relied on the "Oh, that's my letter opener" if I got caught. My investment was only some of my time so if I needed to, I could surrender it and not think twice.
There is at least a plausible explanation.
They want machines there because the rate of human errors is unacceptably high. They have false negatives - where some IQ-challenged TSA worker doesn't know various forms of popular names. Then they have false positives - where the traveler presents fake or wrong ID or a boarding pass and is allowed to proceed.
This happens not only because the workers are not attentive enough. It also happens because the work is tedious, and they have only a couple of seconds to authenticate the ID. A terrorist can manufacture a very realistic-looking boarding pass - it's just a piece of paper, after all, it doesn't have to pass the magnetic reader at this point. Combined with his own ID, this "pass" will let him into the secure area of the airport - either to fly on another, this time real, boarding pass, or just to drop off some explosives for someone else who does fly.
The machine would close most of these holes. If you have to scan your boarding pass and your ID the computer will first check that the boarding pass is valid. If it is, it will figure out the unique identity of the passenger and match it to the ID (a driver's license, for example) that you also scan. The computer will be able to detect false IDs by checking with databases - something that a TSA worker can't do.
This closes a bunch of security holes (no more delivery trips into the secure area) and at the same time presents no [additional] privacy violations. I'm unsure if those security holes are important enough to be searched and probed over, but as long as they stick to this method they might as well do it right.
How 'bout we use both systems - one where you walk on the plane without the secret police - I mean TSA - doing a once over - and the other one with your plan - citizens get on plane and have their guns with them. Citizens make the choice by how they buy their tickets.
In 6 months flying the Government Way would be broke - broken - and the horror would be over.
But, then who would there be to tell you that the razor knife with no blade you left in your pocket is OK then his “Supervisor” is right there to confiscate it?
I actually had to send an e-mail to these idiots with dictionary definitions of a knife and a blade to get them to understand. There was no blade. They sent me a claim form. I want my $8.06 back because they unlawfully confiscated my property.
I’m sure that everyone who has flown more than once the past 10 years is aware of the racial makeup of the TSA drones. The real reason for substituting machines for humans is that a large percentage of the TSA drones are illiterate.
A little bullet hole will not result in “rapid-depressurization”.
Your laptop computer may be a more formidable weapon than your knife if used correctly, makes a good edged weapon shield too. Food for thought.
“The more likely terrorist situation aboard a plane today is to bomb it, taking the entire craft down.”
Oh, I do understand this. In the past, we depended on some sense of self-preservation to work in our favor with hijackers. Today’s suicide jihadist has no such regard for his own life.
We have other ways of finding those bent on jihad, including using intel and bomb sniffing canines. Political correctness be damned.
We’ve also decided that the public at large is guilty until they prove their worthiness to board an airplane after a humiliating and pointless search in direct violation of our constitutional rights.
It’s become painfully obvious that a life without risk is also a life without freedom.
Some think this is OK. I don’t.
How did you know that I use a ToughBook? lol
As a California NEWBIE, you have a lot to learn.
You stupid f***. I was on your side against the idiot that was trashing you and you jump on me? What a jerk. So, FU and the horse you rode in on.
First, I don't care who's "on my side", or not.
Second; FR used to be a classy, knowledgeable, conservative site. Now, we see there are less-informed and less-mature members joining.
