Mitt Romney faced relentless criticism four years ago for changing his positions on abortion and gay rights and equivocating on other issues, including immigration and gun control. This year, the former Massachusetts governor has largely escaped such attacks as he competes again for the Republican presidential nomination. That might be changing.

Well, I’m all in on this. If Willard the progressive Rat Romney is the Republican one, I may be forced off the net, because FR will NOT be used to support him. In fact, I will actively campaign against him and for a grassroots conservative tea party candidate. Progressive Republicans can find a home elsewhere. If FR becomes a ghost town, that’s it unless a very popular TEA party candidate steps forward to defeat both Obama and Romney.

August 5 an announcement by three term Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (Kay's retiring after this term but not to the TX Governor’s mansion after losing the primary to Gov. Rick Perry. Her primary challenge was backed by Karl Rove and the Bushes) that she can’t endorse Rick Perry because he doesn’t have enough real-life experience running a business. Interesting, since Perry’s been running the State of Texas for 11 years and as an executive has done quite well for the people of Texas– can’t say the same for Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Perry’s problem seems to be that calling Romney a flip-flopper leaves himself open to the same charge.

The GOP itself hangs in the balance. I have believed that for some time. The so-called tea-party (which is basically the GOP rank and file) was the party's temporary salvation. If, with everything on the line, the party walks away from its own rank and file then they will, and should, and must, go the way of the Whigs.

If GOP repudiates its own membership (not to mention its own purported principles, which they sell at retail every day of the week), then I'm out too.

Perry’s remark that Social Security is a ponzi scheme is simple uncontroversial truth. I don’t think there is any sentient person out there who doesn’t know that. Romney makes himself look ridiculous by arguing the point. And if you listen to Romney’s own remarks, in effect he admits the truth of it even while disputing it.

Romney doesn’t even believe what he is saying, he is just positioning himself. I don’t like Perry much but on this issue he is speaking clear truth and Romney is looking for an angle.

Perry has some problems to overcome. Not sure he can. That said, if he’s the last man standing against Romney, I’ll support him. At least he does have sufficient executive experience and the majority of the Texas voters like him well enough to continue reelecting him and he has done a pretty good job with the economy in Texas despite Obama and the Marxist democrats. And he’s a pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-America veteran patriot! Other than his in-state tuition fiasco, he does have a lot going for him.

Hope he succeeds. I love TEXAS!!

Like I said, other than that, you and I are of the same mind.

One thanksgiving a few years back,
many in the family had gotten bored with our traditional turkey dinner.
About half wanted to have semi-traditional ham,
and another bunch wanted to do something “different”;
they had settled on wanting spaghetti, of all things.

Now, as for me, I wanted the traditional turkey dinner,
after all, tradition is what thanksgiving is all about.

When it came time to raise hands in a vote,
I knew I was not going to get turkey,
so I voted for ham,
just to avoid having to have spaghetti.

It is a simplistic analogy, I know,
but it’s the best I can do at the moment.

Even if I am losing, with only a few seconds left to play,
even if I think the other side has cheated,
and the referees have been unfair,
I still will not walk off the field.

I sincerely believe that if Romney is nominated it will split many Christian pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government conservatives off the Republican rolls and may even split the Tea party as well. The tea party sprang up, in large part, to combat socialized healthcare. Romney still brags about his RomneyCare being a successful conservative free-market program. Never heard of a free-market program that includes forced government mandates and government enforced penalties if you choose not to go along. That and he still promotes global warming and it’s economy killing mandates against industry.

Romney is an ASS!! Never will I support that lying rat bastard big government progressive/socialist!! Romney marks the end of the GOP as a conservative party.

Yes, but I think you’ve completely overlooked a very viable candidate who is running neck to neck with Romney, Herman Cain. Mr. Cain doesn’t diss other candidates. His mama did him well! He is a complete gentleman. Brilliant but with great common sense. (A rarity!) Obama doesn’t know the meaning of either of those words.

If it’s a choice between Cain and Romney, I’m all in for Cain, make no mistake. I just don’t like Cain’s lack of political experience. I think the Dems will eat him for breakfast if the GOP establishment doesn’t get to him first. We’ve seen what inexperience gets us, and it’s not pretty. I also don’t like his hedging on issues like abortion. He’s not nearly as conservative as I would like to see. But again, that said, he gets my vote if it’s a Romney/Cain contest. I truly believe Perry is the best man for the job.

it will tear Obama’s opposition apart.

Perry became target number one because of his meteoric rise and subsequent fall, but he isn’t out of this race yet. I expect another surge from him. Romney is the establishment pick by default, but he isn’t doing much better than he did last time around, which indicates he has good, solid support, but not quite enough of it. A lot of progressive Republicans are crying over Christie’s decision. ...I would like to see some of the also rans turn their criticisms towards Romney, and leave Cain to concentrate his energy on attacking Obama.

Herman Cain is not a serious candidate. You think he is by the polls...but he has little campaign organization along with very poor fund raising. He is made that choice...he is on a book tour and yes, that is some what tied to the race. But it takes a strong organization throughout the country...he has had a lot of time to do that but has chosen not to. Perry and Romney have the money raised and have strong campaign organzations throughout the USA, they are both as serious as a heart attack. And the watchers including the big donors look at all this...they do not see him as a serious candidate.
