Romney rivals may go after him for flip-flops
Boston Globe ^ | 10/9/11 | Philip Elliot

Posted on 10/09/2011 11:47:42 AM PDT by DRey

Mitt Romney faced relentless criticism four years ago for changing his positions on abortion and gay rights and equivocating on other issues, including immigration and gun control. This year, the former Massachusetts governor has largely escaped such attacks as he competes again for the Republican presidential nomination. That might be changing.

Well, this will be a switch. These morons are trying to destroy one of the most conservative candidates we have and protect flip-floppy Romney. I have lost all respect for them.

I've never seen the likes of this and I'm still trying to analyze WHY.

You do know Cain has been the worst offender, don’t you? He’s supporting Romney over Perry and has supported Romney in the past.

Perry has been governor of TX for TEN years. There's plenty to know about him. Is he perfect? Heck, no, but after watching the rest of these guys (and girl) try to destroy Perry while giving Romney a free pass, one wonders if any of them are worthy.

My niece sat in on a Perry "round table" in Orange City, IA yesterday. Here is one paragraph of what she had to say:

Perry seems to have a real target on his back. I wonder if they will regret trying to take him out. Unless they know something we don't. I seriously don't get the immigration thing. It is a huge mess but I don't see that anyone has all the answers. It seems Perry has handeled it the way most Texan's see as best. At least he knows the problems first hand. I just don't see this as the deciding issue, but they are using it to destroy him. I was surprised how much it dominated the disscussion yesterday. There were so many things we didn't have time to get to. It seems they have managed to keep him off his message."

Perry has had generally good reviews of his visit to Iowa Fri. evening and yesterday.

All the candidates have played “nice-nice” about Romney’s religion but they didn’t give Perry the same courtesy about the smear of racism because of a rock he didn’t even own and had painted over.

They should have stood with Perry but they didn’t. They used it to beat him over the head for their own enrichment despite knowing it was a MSM hit-job.

Rick Perry is 100% correct on SS and had the guts to say it. If this country cannot accept that fact, we're going to go completely bankrupt.

Romney is the deceiver.

It’s true. If Perry ever gets off the defensive footing and is allowed to put his message forward, they’re all toast.

And the reason they've been working together against him.

Then why are Bachmann, Cain, and Paul protecting him? I don’t get it.

They need to go after Romney for having the core principles of a common garden snail, he will do almost anything necessary to reach his goals.

If Romney is as wishy washy about his faith as about his political values he can't be much of a Mormon.

Herman Cain is one of those protecting Romney and says he’d serve as his VP. He also supported Romney in 08.

Maybe with a little love from conservatives we can help change his mind.’

Perry is strong states rights guy and certainly won’t be advocating it for any other state and certainly not on the national level.

Perry also supports Arizona’s right to handle their immigration problems the way they see fit.

Don’t blame this on the RNC. The “conservative” Republican candidates are the ones protecting Romney. I’m sick of all of them.

With his understanding of right and wrong, and his organizing abilities, and brilliant mind, I don’t think any opponent will make anything but a strong president out of Herman Cain.

"The “conservative” Republican candidates are the ones protecting Romney."

Really?

You are probably right if you consider Rove and the rest of the conservative hating Repubs not part of the RNC ruling factor.

The only conservative Republican candidates I know of are busy running their own campaigns.

WHY are Bachmann, Cain and Paul protecting Romney? They’re more responsible for this mess than anyone else—especially Cain.

"Herman Cain is one of those protecting Romney"

I'm not following your logic on this one.

Mr. Cain enters the race for President, comes from last place to (currently) second place, details financial and leadership plans that make Romney look like the idiot he is, and he is somehow protecting Romney?

Cain is a leader, Romney and Perry are jokes and more of an example of the losers foisted upon us in the past (McCain, Dole etc...) which will ensure another 4 years for the bummer.

“I refuse to play that game. If the GOP cannot field an honest conservative candidate for president, and instead puts up an abortionist, homosexual pandering, global warming advocating, gun-grabbing, big government, mandate-loving socialist healthcare pushing, progressive LIAR, then I’m no longer a Republican.”

What he said!

So everyone but Perry is in the race to protect Romney?

Yeah, that does not sound strange and half baked at all./s

Jim,
Here’s how I see Perry.

I will support any conservative candidate, who is at least 85% conservative.

All the other candidates and the moderators spent the past month beating on Perry.
He was vetted by fire. Frankly, he had the crap beaten out of him and now, it’s all
out there. I disagree with him on just a handful of issues. They are important issues
to me, but he covers most of what I need.

Frankly, I don’t think he knew how to handle multiple adversaries simultaneously. I hope
he can get better. Being thoroughly vetted and attacked early is a positive thing, if you
can survive.

RINOmney hasn’t gotten beat on yet. People will not begin to take a second look at him.
The conservative vote shifted or coalesced around Cain - and now he will be vetted.

In this election, I don’t see any candidate who is a “corporate” guy being anything but
the perfect foil for Obama’s “corporate greed” message. RINOmney would be a great punching
bag and sorry to say, but so would Cain. Cain has the added distinction of never having
been elected to anything, including dog catcher. That doesn’t give me the confidence he
knows how to win a campaign.

His corporate background too, is a different skillset than leading a government body.

RINOmney is simply a non-starter for me, no matter who he would choose as his VP - we saw
how that went with McCain.

Perry, despite my disagreements with him, knows how to run a campaign and win, knows how to raise
money, is a tough, hard-working guy, etc. Congress will have to be a firewall on those issues I
disagree with him about.

I would vote for Cain, if it comes to that. I won’t vote for RINOmney.
