The Leaves also did it, and locally (to Grand Rapids), the Soul Benders.

Jimi’s version of “Hey Joe” simply blew all the others away (no pun intended). It just works better as a slow song.

Army paratrooper, honorably discharged after he was injured in a jump.Do you have an authoritative source for that? I know a lot of people view Wikipedia with disdain, but it suggests that he was discharged basically because he didn't "fit in too well", and Hendrix told about getting injured in a jump.
The man could make a guitar talk.
Indeed, he was a master.

I have zero respect for copyright on anything more than 30 years old. Ditto. Copyright law has been perverted to protect established interests. One more example of the crony capitalism that is ruining our nation.

It is in his bio at the rock and roll hall of fame, there was another Hendrix's, in the Marines that got a bad discharge about the same time.

The Brothers Grimm's heirs should have sued Disney for the unauthorised use of Grimm fairy tales for several of Disney's animated movies and characters.Indeed, Disney has reached deep in to the public domain for ideas quite often, yet it is somehow wrong when their works lose their copyright.
Crony capitalism has run rampant in this country for decades. One nation - of, by and for the corporate interests. It's why politicians go into the business as normal folk, but leave as multimillionaires.

That is true, my nephew could play like that, he could play a song on a telephone key pad. Boy drunk himself to death.

Walking a straight line is not a necessary part for re-inventing the concept of rock and roll guitar playing. Watch his Monterrey Pop footage and watch any modern rock show, they’re still ripping him off. And that’s just his stage performance, listen to his later blues as he was moving away from the stunt guitar, amazing stuff.

Vai was in this year’s Experience Hendrix tour. Doing the usual Steve Vai stuff. Neat shows, lots of good musicians working hard. Maybe a little too much emphasis on the stunt guitar, everybody forgets he was a bluesman too, but definitely fun.

I know how good he was. Like Janis Joplin. why mess everything up by screwing yourself up.

Maybe they can’t do the one without the other. The 27 Club is large and with a few exceptions quite talented. Some creative types just can’t seem to handle reality. OK some non-creative types have that problem too, but nobody ever notices them.

Apparently not. In general creative people are either driven by insecurity or ego. They either are desperately trying to prove to themselves they are worthy of anything good, or trying to prove to the world that anybody that has ever rejected them is an idiot. The former lead a self destructive life because they don’t care if they die, the later do it to prove they’re better than everyone else, both groups die young. Just makes me glad I’m not creative, seems to be healthier.
