AP Editor: We Still Consider Herman Cain A Second-Tier Candidate
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/10/2011 8:56:06 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Yeah, Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll, crushing Mitt Romney and Rick Perry. And OK, a CBS poll recently found him tied with Romney among likely Republican primary voters. Sure, he also scored a resounding victory in another straw poll this weekend. And Rasmussen just today released the finding that 56% of GOP voters like Cain's 9-9-9 plan.

So is that enough to make the Associated Press consider Cain a first-tier candidate? Nah. On MSNBC's "Daily Rundown" this morning, AP's political editor, Liz Sidoti, sniffed "we still consider him a second-tier candidate."

Brian Sussman (KSFO) had a great segment this morning where he played a Matthews clip...in which Matthews flat out ignores Paul and Cain and pushes 100% Perry and Romney as though there is no one else.

It’s not even funny or sad anymore...it’s downright pathetic.

***

If Cain keeps this up, Matthews might need to reconsider his “pravda” ways.

It stinks to lie, and it’s worse when you are caught.

Of course these people think he’s second rate...they’re afraid of him.

Second tier, not second rate. And people have gotta stop with the "they are afraid of him/her" stuff. It's really getting old. Every one who supports a candidate feels the need to inform us of how the establishment "fears" or is "terrified" of their candidate. We are not anywhere near along in the process for the enemy to fear Cain or anyone else yet.

Cain is leading in many polls, but has gotten little scrutiny till now. Being right on many issues, and some good poll numbers isn't even close to enough if he can't raise lots of money and doesn't build strong state organizations. Political analysts consider Cain second tier because he does not seem to be able to translate his poll boomlet into money - at least not yet.

Cain is a good guy, is quick on his feet and doing pretty well so far - but until he can raise the kind of money that Romney and Perry can, he is going to be viewed as 2nd tier because he has never won so much as a primary before (and lost the one he did run for in Georgia) and people will remain very doubtful if he can until he proves otherwise.

- for the past 20 years I’ve considered the Associated Press as a second-tier news source....

You're generous. I consider the National Enquirer headlines which I read while waiting in the checkout line in the grocery store to be more credible . . . and far more entertaining.

“in which Matthews flat out ignores Paul and Cain and pushes 100% Perry and Romney”

The mainstream media sets the narrative, if it doesn’t fit the narrative, they ignore it. TRUTH no longer matters to much of todays media..

If the gay mafia on the New York Times Editorial Board, and the NBC Newsrooms decide it, it is so., and much of the rest of the media will play along.
Welcome to the new reality.

Everyone who dismisses Cain and/or says they won’t vote for him are racists. Repeat it loud and often.

All that is academic.

I will not vote for that phoney son of a bitch Romney even if it means the communist in chief gets another 4 years, and no self respecting conservative should either.

As far as I m concerned the muslim in chief wont be getting causing anymore damage to anybody but his own party, he doesn't have the House and most likely will not have the Senate.

Time to destroy the bluebloods at the RNC once and for all, they give us Romney, all bets are off.

Whether you like Cain or not, it’s pretty obvious that the Republican Party, the Democrat Party, and the media are terrified that a smart conservative black guy with the ability to make a coherent argument without help from his staff could actually get into the top-tier running.

This is why there is a definite push to move up Republican Primaries and it’s being done by Romney via the Republican Party.

But that’s what you get from “career” politicians with that “awesome voting record” and “political experience” that some prefer - over anything else.

A question for all you Cain experts:

What is his approach to 2a issues as well as drilling? What I have heard sounds a bit soft...

"They" will not give you Romney. There is no conspiracy. Romney will win if the majority of Republicans vote for him in the primaries. If he is to be stopped, another candidate will have to persuade Republicans who bother to vote in the primaries that he/she is the better candidate AND is electable. Cain is doing well in polls, but does not seem to be raising much money and does not yet have impressive state organizations. Until that changes, he will be regarded as a second tier flash in the pan. Can will need huge numbers of individual/small donations, because the big money folks are not likely to donate large amounts to a candidate who has yet to prove he can win a single election or primary anywhere yet - it is one of the big downsides to having no elective experience.

This would be my dream ticket:

Herman and Newt on the same ticket. I don’t care who is chosen as pres. or VP on the ticket. Both together have an explosion to offer. They will both feed off one another.

Bolton….I would hire him to get us out of the UN and the UN out of the US. He would also be hired to clean up our Marxist state department and the embassies around the world to include shutting down many of them forever and to stop giving my tax money to every county in the world. Those countries either fly or sink. Too bad, so sad.

Sarah would fit in as a good local advisor in cleaning out the trash in D.C. and all over the U.S. and abroad. That is one huge job.

So what? He won’t be a second-tier president or a total loser like we have now. As long as Cain wins the primaries and beats Obama, the naysayers can say whatever they want. No one seems to be listening.

You just may have a point. I re-read the article, and the word “wrestle” could well be code for “strong-arm” or some other Mafia means of persuasion.

BTW, she DID mention having “reporters” at Cain’s book signing - - - .
