NBA commissioner David Stern has cancelled the first two weeks of the season after owners and players failed to reach a new labor deal and end the lockout.
The crisis began on July 1 when owners locked out the players after they failed to come to terms before the expiration of the old collective bargaining agreement.
I don’t feel bad for either side.
The owners still collected payments from season ticketholders like myself ($28K for LAKERS & CLIPPERS).
They’re refunding it to me on a montly basis, “after” the games have been officially cancelled...
“National Black Sports Association. Why did they drop sports out of the name.
thug-round-ball can die for good as far as I’m concerned...
Q: Did you hear about Reagan's anti-poverty program?
A: 50,000 teams in the NBA next year..
Every day not played is a day LeBron gets older....I think once the players started picking teams things were doomed. They won’t be back for a long time.
How is a bunch overpaid idjits not playing a game considered a crisis? Talk about a severe loss perspective!
Gunner
Here's the quandary, though -- most of those millionaires are union members.
Nothing
But
Assaults
Yawn
This one-time Knick fan is through with the NBA, bored with the NFL,could care less about MLB and I’m about done with the whole college sports scene also.
ESPN along with the rest of the big time media has destroyed what was once, Great American pastimes in the name of the almighty dollar and political correctness.
The FIRST baseball strike destroyed professional sports for me, quite permanently. I’ve just seen it as a business ever since. I cannot suspend disbelief while trying to watch.
I do enjoy high school sports more, and minor league baseball can be a hoot.
And to anyone who does not believe it is a business: Look what everyone is talking about when a season gets delayed. They talk about the impact to business, both national and local. The restaurant ownder, the waitress, the traffic director, the peanut salesman, the team swag salesman, the city tax collector.
Yup. I’m still done with it.
‘zackly.
NBA?
They could cancel it and I wouldn’t notice.
They stopped playing the actual sport of basketball long ago.
Just like Hollywood!!
And to all those colleges that give out sports scholarships instead of academic scholarships....shame on you!!
I saw some clowns on ESPN talking about this “crisis.” All I could think about is that there are a lot more important things going on in the country right now that should be deemed a “crisis.” This is not one of them. Our current economic situation really puts this nonsense in perspective.
Just means the Mavericks will keep their title longer.
The NBA is going to get a rude awakening when the strike is over, when more and more players are going to choose to play in Europe.
Hopefully the NHL will benefit.
The dish-TV people tried, too. "No, thank you. {click}"
When the "business" of sports takes precedence over the sports themselves, I part company. Another indication: the discussion of last night's game has disappeared from the water cooler talk completely at my place of employment. I used to at least hear the highlights of the games. Not any more. Now it's all contracts and player posturing.
My family was one glued to the television every single weekend. The MBAs of the NBA, the NFL, MLB, and the other sports associations have caused me to kick the habit.
Thanks Dallas!! Thanks Cuban!!
When they quit allowing the all stars to WALK and require them to start dribbling the ball instead of this half palming crossover move BS and the Dunk goes bye bye then maybe they call call it basketball and stop the season at the end of April including the playoffs
As of now I don’t know what it should be called
Now that’s funny!
But Mark Cuban is anti-military and hates US soldiers as he was the producer of Rendition’ and other leftwing movies. I hate him more than Lebron.
And unlike most people, I didn’t get the hatred for Lebron. You’re telling me I am not supposed to leave a company/organization at my own choosing and shackle myself to the same company for another 20 years when there are opportunities in America that would enable me to better myself?
I don’t remember Lebron setting dogfights like Vick or driving intoxicated like Jalen Rose or spitting at women like charles Barkley or stabbing women like OJ.
I think Lebron will eventually win it. You just don’t get 3 top free agents within 1 summer and be just 2 games away from winning it all.
I kept hearing Michael Vick and Eagles’ saying all summer long they were the Dream Team, but where are they now?
