Occupy OKC activists take over downtown park - indefinitely
Red Dirt Report ^ | October 10, 2011 | Andrew W. Griffin

OKLAHOMA CITY – Approximately 300 people gathered in Kerr Park late Monday afternoon as part of the national “Occupy Wall Street” movement which is spreading through the U.S. like wildfire.

And many of them plan to camp and protest Wall Street, the Federal Reserve or other bastions of corporate power – indefinitely.

“In the unfortunate instance that you are arrested, do not resist arrest,” warned an attorney acting as part of the Occupy OKC legal team. He went on to say that Occupy OKC is committed to non-violence. The Oklahoma City Police Department had so far been very courteous and helpful and a few signs offered thanks to the cops for their cooperation during the occupation.

There were plenty of signs for the occupiers to hold and wave here on Robert S. Kerr Avenue. A few stated the following: “I’d rather be rebuilding America’s infrastructure,” “Privatized gains = Socialized loss,” “Bail out the 99% not the rich execs,” “Audit the Federal Reserve,” and “Resistance is fertile.”

And one middle-aged man, looking a bit down in the mouth, held a simple sign which read: “Pissed-off worker bee.”

"Like wildfire"? Is that a joke? 300 people here and there, given credits by their leftist professors to attend, with no impact on their grades, with free food and the constant attention that Millenials always crave? Is it really so impressive?

I was in Philly yesterday, and saw an occupier sign which said, as in OKC, “privatized gains, socialized losses.” I remarked to my wife, I agree with the sentiment, but most likely not in the way intended by the sign-bearer. He wants to increase the socialism to distributing the profits; I want to cut the socialism by withdrawing support of the losses. As they say in investing, “cut your losses, let your winners run.”

Oklahoma City????? That is the last place I’d expect these Communists to show up. I guess every city has its freeloaders looking for a handout.

Just as the “homeless” beggars are being discouraged from hanging out in many cities, they have found another way to game the system.

Laziness breeding stupidity. The idiots are in one of the few states where they can find work. Long past time for the deadbeats to “pay their fair share”...get skin in the game and have a stake in the future instead of 40-year old hippie dreams of socialist utopia that has yet to be successful anywhere it has been attempted.

Obama is our national community organizer who has:

1. Destroyed the economy and created a distressed populace.

2. Is prepared to direct a Marxist Revolution.

Our entire Federal Government is under his control.

Exactly!!!

This is nothing. It's not a "movement," it's a minor annoyance. Just like Obama, this is an MSM phenomenon. There's no "popular movement," no huge crowds like we used to see in the 60's, just a bunch of disgruntled losers and their union handlers.

I hope in the debates tonight, when the question is asked about them, the candidates will tell the truth, that this is just a fake effort on the part of a bunch of Marxists and the unions to distract from what really going on with the Obama Administration's corruption and failures.

When I was a kid, we used to have water balloon fights.

How could one make a flea-balloon? I'm thinking of visiting one of these flea-bagger protest communes.

And many of them plan to camp and protest ...

Whoa right there, Tonto.

One of the things I used to do, when I was younger was to fill by Paniers on my bike, and take a trip with camp gear, bike 50-60 miles, camp; get up and bike some more.

One thing you learn right off the bat, is that many cities DO NOT ALLOW CAMPING in their parks - it's a sanitary thing. No restroom facilities - the parks are for family gatherings, picnics and scenic beauty, not camping. So, knowing this; I would find the local policeman, mayor or official in these little Texas towns, and simply ask "Excuse me, is there any place around here where I can set up my tent? I'll be gone in the morning; I just need a place to eat, rest and camp". I was NEVER treated anything less than as a welcome guest. Simple hospitality was extended, and returned 10x.

Some towns allowed me to camp in the city park; some sent me to a nearby park more attuned to my needs. But, no one is simply allowed to drop a tent where they please.

The local CBS affiliate was slobbering all over this last night. The same station virtually ignored the thousands of tea partiers last year.

0bama isn’t that powerful. Congress, the courts, career politicians, many of the voters and, takers of other people’s money have been working on this for a long time. It’s just now coming to fruition under 0bama.

May we all recognize the warning signs as these forces coagulate under 0bomber’s misbeguided stewardship. The Republic is in clear and present danger.

They have an affinity for Tim McVeigh ~ that's what's going on whether they realize it or not. First thing their crowd wanted to do in DC was burn down the Smithsonian.

I wouldn't trust these people. Best the OKC cops keep a machine gun or two trained on them at all times.

Are these people unemployed, over educated, current and former useful idiots? Do they want to emulate the tent cities of yore? ...or the tent cities of the unhappy masses?

Do they know that their unhappiness is the direct result of Democrat policies and stealth socialism? Who are they blaming instead?

Do they think that their mindless squatting with its attendant environmental destruction, civil disobedience, and unsanitary conditions, will somehow do good? Good luck to them all!

Beat me to it. Yes, I definitely think that the indefinite will end about the time the wind shifts to the north at about 30 mph gusting to 40 plus and the wind chill hits about umpteen below or so.

The worst part of winter in Central and North Oklahoma for me is seriously chapped lips. Lots of Carmex is the ticket.

I drove by Kerr Park on my way into the office this morning. I saw about 5 people holding signs. “People not profit,” etc. That was it. I may stroll over that way at lunch and see the show.
