Democratic leaders in the Senate are scrambling to avoid defections on President Obamas jobs package, which appears headed for defeat on Tuesday.
A lack of Democratic unity on the presidents bill would be embarrassing for the White House, which has been scolding House Republicans for refusing to vote on the measure.
Obama has been touring the country, aiming to put pressure on the GOP to act. But Senate Democrats have indicated they are feeling some heat. Last week, Democratic leaders revised Obamas bill, scrapping his proposed offsets. Instead of raising taxes on families making more than $250,000 annually, Senate Democrats lifted that figure to $1 million.
Despite the changes, the legislation still does not enjoy the support of all 53 senators who caucus with the Democrats. A handful of Democrats are undecided or leaning no on the bill.
Democrats who will vote no or are leaning no include Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Jon Tester (Mont.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.), who all hail from red states and are up for reelection next year.
Republican and Democratic analysts say it will be politically difficult for Obama to blame the GOP for blocking the bill if more than a few conservative Democrats break ranks.

But they'll get taken to the woodshed anyway...
If they live in a swing state which it looks like most are right now they they face defeat at next election. If this passes then they are fools who don’t care if they serve another term.
and since spending bills must originate in the House it will be difficult to pull off the usual Dem trick of buying recalcitrant votes with pork
Ben Nelson & Joe Manchin will vote against the Obama Jobs Bill. Jon Testor, Claire McCaskill, who knows??? If Tester & McCaskill vote yea with Obama, they will begin retirement come November, 2012!!! Actually, any Senate Democrat running for re-election in November, 2012 that votes for any Obama bill is either stoned on reefer, insane or just plain stupid!!!
It WILL pass, and be claimed as “bi-partisan”, as usual, with Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins (and maybe a couple other RINO’s) voting FOR it.
Joe Lieberman (I/D-CT) also intends to vote “NO”
It’s okay, the King will fix it!
IT’S NOT A JOBS BILL
I am so sick and tired of the left playing their name game, it’s a spending bill, it is amnesty not a dream act , they are illegal not undocumented and they are homosexuals not gay.
I think all 200 million of us needs to go to Washington and throw him out!! Oust the King!
The idiocy of this is that the Stimulus Package was so long ago, most Americans probably wouldn’t even remember. But with all this “PASS THIS BILL” crap Obama is running around doing, folks are saying “Again?” and bring it right to the forefront. That will cause them to ask what happened the last time... etc...
So, whose brilliant idea was it to bring to the faces of many Americans a failed policy that these folks DID vote on last time?
Nelson got burned on Obama-care. Manybe Reid can exclude a few Senator's states from the tax increases like he did Obama-care. And throw in a 'Deem and pass' and a budget reconciliation bill too.
Nice to see more demorats starting to sweat things out.
Obama can promise to act like he doesnt know them during campaign time if they vote for his plan, or threaten to act like they are together if they dont.
The Senate is not used to passing bills that anyone hands to them.
