REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT
ON AMERICAN JOBS ACT
IBEW Local #5 Training Center
Well, one of our focuses today was on entrepreneurship. And we did this because the story of America’s success is written by America’s entrepreneurs; men and women who took a chance on a dream and they turned that dream into a business, and somehow changed the world. We just lost one of our greatest entrepreneurs, and a friend, Steve Jobs, last week. And to see the outpouring of support for him and his legacy tells a story about what America’s all about. We like to make things, create things, new products, new services that change people’s lives.
And that’s what people strive to do every day in this country. And most of the time people’s dreams are simple: Start-ups and storefronts on Main Street that let folks earn enough to support their family and make a contribution to their community. And sometimes their dreams take off and those start-ups become companies like Apple or Fed-Ex or Ford; companies that end up hiring and employing hundreds of thousands of Americans and giving rise to entire new industries. And that spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation is how we became the world’s leading economic power, and it’s what constantly rejuvenates our economy.
So entrepreneurship is how we’re going to create new jobs in the future. And I’m proud to say that just last month Pittsburgh won a federal grant to promote entrepreneurship and job creation by expanding your already successful energy and health care industries in under-served parts of this city. So we’re very excited about what Pittsburgh is doing here. (Applause.)
But.....but...wasn’t Steve Jobs a mean, greedy capitalist who didn’t share his wealth with the “occupy” people?
I’m sure some asinine political consultant in the White House also recommended that Jobs name would somehow make people think of Obama’s “jobs” bill.
Jobs didn’t need a federal grant to get going though..but let’s not bother Obama and his cult in the media with the facts.
Ah, the good old days in 1976 when Jobs, Wozniak and some nameless government bureaucrat were working out of Jobs' parents' garage late into the night putting together the first Apple I computers... no, wait, there were no government bureaucrats helping Jobs and Wozniak build Apple.
Apple does hire Americans. And while a lot of those are retail jobs it is worth noting Apple does pay some engineers 6 and 7 figures per year. Our best guess based on the information we have available to us is Apple hires somewhere in the neighborhood of 27,000 Americans.
Which brings us to the big issue. Manufacturing. Lets start with the number that should get your attention:
Thats the number of employees Foxconn has as of 2010. You might not have ever heard of Foxconn however Well bet youve bought some of their stuff before. Yea. In one campus .ONE CAMPUS. Foxconn has 300,000to 450,000 workers which are employed in Shenzhen China at the Longhua Science & Technology Park, a cramped, walled campus sometimes referred to as Foxconn Cityor iPod City. Covering about 1.16 square miles (3 square km),it includes 15 factories, worker dormitories, a swimming pool, a fire brigade, and a downtowncomplete with a grocery store, bank, restaurants, bookstore, and hospital. While some workers live in surrounding towns and villages, others live and work inside the complex, which broadcasts its own television network, Foxconn TV.
These 400,000+ Employees make everything Apple sells. Look on the back of your Apple product it will say: Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China. We argue it should say manufactured in China not just assembled but we wont get into that.
I read an article yesterday where insiders say he is losing his mind. After reading this it confirms it at least to me. Jobs bill? Steve Jobs? WTF?
Does he get all his ideas from Rush Limbaugh? I think Limbaugh predicted this a few days ago.
yep he is baked..
Obama: "You didn't vote for my jobs bill, and now Jobs is dead!"
Congress will not act on his misbegotten plan. The dems themselves are afraid of attaching themselves to it with the elections coming.
So he will use a Jobs dead name...barely buried...to push this monstrocity.
2012 can not come soon enough.
YOU didn’t REGULATE THE CRAP OUT OF THEM AND THEY SUCCEEDED!
Try taking the shackles off of the rest of industry and see what happens!!!!!
Obammy though when he heard that Jobs was dead, that meant the jobs people are looking for. The world’s smartest man is an idiot and according to Tony Bennett, the greatest thing America has produced. Scotty, beam me up!
You don't have to like everything about Steve Jobs--his politics, religion, or personality--but he actually created wealth and jobs out of nothing, through sheer drive and ambition. Like Herman Cain. Unlike manipulators like Warren Buffett and Mitt Romney.
JOBS: Just Obama Bull S#!t
Obama is such a lying sleeze.
Argue all you want. But some of the parts of every Apple device are manufactured all over the world. For example the glass for the iPhones is Corning Gorilla glass. The batteries come from Japan. Other parts come from Korea. The processor is an Apple branded part manufactured by one of two makers outside of China. Memory comes from outside. It's assembled in China. Some iPhones and iPads are now being assembled in Brazil.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Well, the ONE redeeming grace that Obama brings to the White House and the Presidency is that he makes Jimmy Carter look better. . . not good, mind you, just better.
