In spotlight, Herman Cain survives Attacks

Herman Cain woke up Tuesday to another day of soaring polling numbers, showing him moving into second place behind Mitt Romney and pushing Rick Perry out of the spotlight.

The day ended with the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO under attack from his rivals, both on stage and in a series of post-debate press releases meant to tear him down.

But from his new center-stage spot next to Mitt Romney, Cain calmly weathered every jab from them, the moderators and even the Democrats, walking out from the Dartmouth auditorium having done little to hurt his standing.

Just ask Harry Reid about being unpopular and getting re-elected.

Cain isn’t Sharron Angle, who is dumber than a box of rocks, and a worse politician.

He is the ONLY person on that stage I would like to see advance

Cain/Gingrich would be awesome

Sarah Palin as Energy Secretary

Ann Coulter as Press Secretary.

Thomas Sowell: Economics

Walter Williams: Education

Ted Nugent- Sec. of Defense.

I agree whole agree and would make a few adjustments. As a cost savings measure, make Palin EPA and DOE head.

Bolton would be Sec of State. Nugent likely would not fly, but Bolton could do that.

If Coulter not press secretary and if Gingrich not VP,then Gingrich press secretary.

I don't know exactly. I suspect that Bachmann knows that a Romney voter would never vote for her so she only attacks the others vying for the conservative voters. Romney actually is trying to help Bachmann because the more divided the conservative vote is the better chance he has of getting the nomination.

Romney can't get above 25% in the polls, so his only path to the nomination is to make sure everyone else stays in as long as possible splitting up the remaining votes. If any single person starts to grab to big of a share of the remaining 75%... he focuses on them while simultaneously building up the others. Romney is playing this like a master. And he is obviously counting on conservatives reluctantly supporting him in the general.

Cain’s even worse. 9-9-9 will be DOA—before it ever reaches Congress. The general electorate will resoundingly reject it. He’s wedded himself to it, it’s what his campaign is all about, and it’s a stone cold loser.

Cain 999 tax plan, it is a catchy phrase but it is a political killer. You cannot win elections when you are telling the 50% of the population who pay zero taxes after filing all their deductions under the current tax code that they have to pay a mandatory 9% taxes on their income with zero deductions and an additional 9% national sales tax on every item they purchase including the basic items such as food and clothing.

“I think Santorum destroyed his idea for a national sales tax”

I think he tried but failed. And he had nothing better to offer.

Bachmann did a better job and targeted the main weakness of the plan, but the fact remains that 9-9-9 would be an improvement over the current system. It’s clear, simple, broadens the base and reduces the aggregate tax burden on individuals and corporations.

I do recall (not the Country Clubbers but the Establishment) beating up on our candidate in NV.

At the same time Hairy Reed had the miners unions behind him ~ the entrepreneurial middle class having already evacuated the state during its current Great Obama Depression.

He did not have an overwhelming victory. He barely made 51% in a three-way race. He'd won the 2004 race with over 60%.

Sharon Angle failed to pull in enough Democrats, and there was that third party candidate (Tea party the data says, hunh?), and 2.2% for NONE OF THESE CANDIDATES ~ a Nevada peculiarity. Kind of like the 00 on the roulette wheel ~ gives the House a tremendous advantage every single time.

We all must note that the LEFT COAST stayed uniformly Democrat ~ which is a long term problem we will probably need to address with re-education camps, or maybe cut off their water or something (except Fresno BTW).

Don't blame your fellow Republicans for Senate losses in the far West.

Good reasoning. That makes sense.

Seems like among the base, Newt gained some ground. People, like me, who still haven't made a decision, are giving Newt a second look.

This GOP field would make a Greek tragedian proud. It's almost laughable how each candidate is rotten in one way or another.

You’re deluded. Cain is intelligent, and a great communicator.

You are so funny ~ 50% don't do what?

Obviously you don't know what taxes are levied on the people, what part they end up paying (or having attributed to them), and what the 9-9-9 plan replaces.

Time for some RE-EDUMACATION!!!!

However, I'm not going to do the job in this thread. Rather, like other's I will be waiting on you to keep coming up with this point (easily refuted last evening by Cain himself) and knocking you upside the head with it.

I watched the debate last night and all the candidates were ready for the "gotcha" questions from the ugly, snarky tumulty, rose and the not bad looking hoe from bloomberg news.

I actually thought this debate format was the most fair for spreading the time.

I'm not a perry fan but I'm starting to feel sorry for him, he looks like a goldfish gasping on the kitchen floor.

The man cannot debate and if selected as the pubbie candidate he will get killed by the one.

The msm and the pubbie elite are hating life today, because the Herminator hit a solid triple last night.

Watch the media start to slam Herman, because not only do they fear the idea of a black conservative, they are now seeing how much Herman is revered and respected by those racist TEA party folks.

Contrary to the contrarian, huck, Herman's 9-9-9 tax idea is understandable and if anyone takes the time to go to Herman's home page, they'd see that it is an interim plan that leads to a fair tax plan.

If the only plan is to keep what we now have, then the USA will go the way of the Roman empire but we won't last 500 years, in fact we won't make 300.

Three debates destroyed perry, last night he just butted the wall several times. Man is not big league. But he did come up with a good way to dumb down debt. All those illegals counted and used to say the debt per person, in Texas, was less per capita. Damn perry would want to borrow 300 million chinese and say per capita he had cut the debt in half in the united states and he and obummer would have a hell of a lot more to spend.

Yes. He is intelligent and he is a pretty good pitchman. But even Ronald Reagan wouldn’t be able to sell what Cain is selling.

Hey, EVERYBODY laughs about the associational situation of 999 with the idea of a preprinted price on a pizza box. Still, I think that was DOMINO'S.

Now, for the sticking point on the pizza wars taking place on stage, Domino's Pizza was sold to Bain Capital in 1998 and went public in 2004. Romney didn't leave Bain Capital until 1999 which meant that for a short while he was part-OWNER of 6,000 pizza joints ~ or about 25 times as many as Mr. Cain.

The question is does anyone have any idea if Bain Capital (that is Romney) continued to make contributions to Right To Life movement organizations or did they abandon that?

Not if the democratic nominee is Obama. But I seriously doubt it will be.

"They can't believe their luck. Cain would be beatable without 9-9-9, but if he really tries to sell that turkey to the general electorate, he'll go down in flames and Obama will win re-election.

I take it you're not a Cain supporter?

Bachmann knows that the typical Romney voter would first knock on her door and then ask her if she knows the real Jesus Christ.

That's when I bring up the Church of the First Born, not the one they get told about but THE REAL ONE and how they don't like doctors or Mormons (for some strange reason) ~ and it's just downhill from there.

My buddy the Moslem missionary down the street is kinder and gentler ~ a natural Bushbot (really!) and he's done a conversion or two himself.

Can you imagine what happens when the Jehovah's Witnesses come to the door?

In all seriousness, when has that not been true? Even with Reagan, look at his record in California. When you are looking for blemishes in mortal humans, you understand why every single one of us needs the blood of Christ.
