Was Obama Planning to Apologize For Hiroshima?
Human Events ^ | 10/12/2011 | John Hayward

An article published in the Japan Times on September 28 is beginning to generate some buzz on our side of the Pacific, as it suggests Obama wanted to stage some apology theater at the A-bomb craters in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but the Japanese government said no:

A senior official of Japan's Foreign Ministry told the U.S. ambassador in Tokyo it would be premature for U.S. President Barack Obama to visit the atomic-bombed city of Hiroshima during his November 2009 trip to Japan, according to a secret U.S. cable recently released by the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks.

The cable indicates the Japanese government was then effectively discouraging Obama from visiting Hiroshima despite growing expectations over it following his call for a world free from nuclear weapons in a speech in Prague in April 2009.

This actually sounds more pre-emptive than a polite refusal of any request from Obama. The Japanese were worried that anti-nuke groups will expect Obama to follow up on his Prague rhetoric and put on a little show at the Fat Man and Little Boy blast sites. (This was early 2009, remember. People still occasionally expected Obama to follow up on his rhetoric, in areas that didn’t involve passing taxpayer money to his campaign contributors or increasing his own power.)

The cable, dated Sept. 3, 2009, and sent to U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton, reported Japan's then Vice Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka telling Ambassador John Roos on Aug. 28 that antinuclear groups would speculate over whether the president would visit Hiroshima in light of his Prague speech on nuclear nonproliferation.

"He underscored, however, that both governments must temper the public's expectations on such issues, as the idea of President Obama visiting Hiroshima to apologize for the atomic bombing during World War II is a 'non-starter'," said the cable...

The number of Japanese deaths are unimaginable if we invaded. They know(I think) that they won with the bombs.

I’m just pretty much out of words for obama. Really, what else is there to say. It’s like having Casey Anthony or Squeaky Fromme as president.

Beyond belief- you just couldn’t make this stiff up.

That title still makes me cringe...

Extremely well said!

Nothing the evil bastard says or does surprises me. And we only know the tip of the iceberg.

I forget, are we on the “Apologize for Hiroshima/Nagasaki every 9 months” or the “Annual Apology for Hiroshima/Nagasaki” schedule or are we on the “We can’t get any f**king thing right schedule so we publish this on October 9th instead of August 9th” schedule?

This is one of those things that every stupid liberal has to open the wound on every so often, like slavery, like women’s suffrage, and after the 57th time you would think that the tiresome, endless discussions of these topics based upon long-discredited misinformation would recede into the background and fade away. And they would, except for the “Hate America” class. Why discuss this crap? The fact that it’s brought forward every so often is proof that the opening side has zero interest in seeing the discussion settle anything.

Pretty soon Obie will be apologizing to the Spanish for the Spanish American War, to the South for the Civil War, to the Mexicans for their mass executions of Texan POWS at Goliad and another site, and to the British for invading the U.S. in the war of 1812.

Oh, and he’ll kiss the ass of the Barbary Pirates if given a chance.

Wasn't that the point of the whole "Arab Spring" thing?

When it comes to deciding where to direct his apologies, Obama ought to get his priorities straight. After all, our president has personally done to the American way of life what the atom bomb did to Hiroshima.

Nail, meet hammer. Exactamundo bump.

An entire political party is triple-distilled pure poison and malice. That's what James Madison lay awake at night thinking about, back in the day.

No doubt in my mind that this human excrement would use the sites of Heroshima and Nagisaki for his own political gain and apologize for America once again.

If America has anything at all to apologize to the world for it  would be for electing him as our CIC

Folks, we had it covered almost a year ago, that Obama was planning on apologizing in Japan the year before, and also considered it for a subsequent trip, but scrapped it out of fear of...YOU AND ME.

His Ambassador to Japan has already done this--or so it was locally interpreted. Now the Japanese language Conservative Sankei News, large circulation daily in Japan is breaking with news from both D.C. and in Tokyo among knowledgeable US-Japan sources that OBAMA HAS DEFINITIVELY TOLD JAPAN TO NOT EXPECT HIM TO MAKE THE VISIT TO HIROSHIMA when he is next in Japan in November. The reasons stated were the touchy US 2010 mid-term elections, the sentiment this act may generate with the American People, overall US-Japan relations factors, and others. Anothere reason, noted in the headline, was internal DJP leadership election issues which could not bring Japan's side to agreement on how to proceed with this.
