Warren Jeffs' Wife Escapes Polygamist Community

By JOHN QUINONES and KEVIN DOLAK | Good Morning America

One of the wives of polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, who is currently serving a life sentence for child sexual assault, has escaped the confines of the isolated Arizona community where his 85 other wives live.

Arizona authorities have said that the 25-year-old woman who fled the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which was led by Jeffs, is now undergoing counseling and psychiatric care at a women's shelter. She was reportedly barefoot when she was found.

The secluded community of the church in Colorado City, Ariz., contains about 5,000 residents and is a world where outsiders are not welcomed. Now a woman that is highly familiar with the isolated community and its controversial former leader has escaped.

Willie Jeesop, a former FLDS spokesman who was kicked out of the religion by Jeffs, said that the unidentified woman was under duress when she sought refuge with Jeffs in Colorado City.

Jeff’s polygamist wife bolts FLDS community

Hildale/Colorado City (ABC 4 News)

HILDALE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - One of Warren Jeff’s polygamist wives has sought the help of Washington County authorities in order to leave the FLDS clan in Hildale/Colorado City.

ABC 4 has learned that it happened Monday in Hildale, Utah, a polygamist town along the Arizona border.

The incident originally triggered a major manhunt and then a standoff, according to sources.

Sources also told ABC 4 News that local town marshals and FLDS security surrounded the business of Willie Jessop, where the young woman had sought refuge.

Sounds like this stirred up the hornets’ nest!

If it’s not him, I wonder who it was a few months ago that quit eating drinking and in about a week.

Same person, Warren Jeffs. Here is a story of the event.

http://www.cbs19.tv/story/15363285/warren-jeffs-never-in-coma

KYTX — Prison officials say Polygamist Sect Leader Warren Jeffs was never in a coma.

“Although some reports had stated he was in a medically induced coma that was not the case although he was sedated,” TDCJ Spokesperson Michelle Lyons said. “He has been responsive today.”

The 55 year old is serving life in prison for sexually assaulting two underage girls. He was life-flighted at noon Tuesday from ETMC in Tyler to the UTMB Prison Hospital in Galveston. Jeffs had been at ETMC since Sunday when he was rushed there because medical staff became concerned about his health.

“He was taking in some fluids and some food but he was not eating enough or drinking enough,” Lyons said.

Lyons, with the Texas prison system, says Jeffs had been fasting and told prison officials he was not on a hunger strike. But if prisoners go on a hunger strike the prison says it can take action.

“We do have a policy in place where medical professionals can evaluate the situation and if it’s medically necessary they can move to force feed the inmate,” Lyons said.

Same Willie the thug—but Willie didn’t escape, one of Jeffs’ wives did.

No you did fine. In paragraph four of the original article they made a mistake and substituted Jeffs for Jessop.

He’s not far off. Unless something has changed, Jeff’s is in a coma at Tyler Medical Center, and has been for months now.

Good for her. I hope she helps blow this thing wide open.

If she can verify the abuse going on in there, that could be all they need to go in again and maybe put an end to this abominable pedophile/sex slave racket going on in there.

Not to mention the welfare fraud.

The few men I saw seemed to be older, in their 40’s or beyond.

From folks I know out near the FLDS compound in Texas, I've heard this is common among these communities - they try to drive the younger men out or keep them down so that the older men can don't have competition for wives.

The whole situation is a really tough nut to crack. The women are highly supportive of the system, so to remove them from it you have to impose your own version of what they should want on them by force.

Which of course brings up the question of whether the states or the federal government should be doing things like this.

A very tough nut to crack. We know many are being brainwashed, but short of them being kept in shackles there's only so far you can go before it gets into serious legal issues.
