Herman Cain named Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) as potential running mates should he secure the Republican presidential nomination for the 2012 election.
Speaking Thursday on "The Steve Gill Show," Cain outlined the qualities he would like in a running mate, and then, unprovoked, offered specific names.
There are some people in Congress that are very, very good, that I respect and admire and that I would love to have on my team, Cain said. Whether that would be in a V.P. slot or in a key Cabinet slot
Ill give you a name like Representative Paul Ryan. Im not saying he would be the V.P. pick, he might be, but thats the type of person I would want in my Cabinet. Hes the type of person. Sen. Jim DeMint people who are not afraid to challenge the system

No thank you, I want those two right where they are, doing exactly what they are doing. I want them raising hell and keeping Congress’ feet to the fire. Not to mention the fact that Jim DeMint is a one man Army on a mission to get as many conservatives elected to the Senate that he can.
He did say that he wanted people LIKE them, so maybe he doesn’t mean them actually.
Herman Cain - America’s first (authentic) black president?? His picks look great to me and he is smart at this point to drop some names. If the Dems don’t like him we can always call them racists.
DeMint, yes. Ryan, no. But seriously, the fact that he does not “balance the ticket” with a RINO is a good sign.
What is with this tendency to clamor to remove effective, conservative legislators from their power place, and relegate them to ‘bucket of warm spit’ status??
Exactly. He is providing a look into the type of guys he would want around him that is all. Don’t see what is wrong with that.
One of the things I like about Cain is that he will give you an answer to a question not avoid answering a direct question.
I had always assumed Ryan had a conservative voting record. My bad!
DeMint! Wow, he is the real deal!
This is just awesome.....
Love his confidence, humility and comity.
I agree that they would be good choices but doubt they would accept as they have a more important job.
Dont forget Cain’s other choice for VP - Mitt Romney.
Don’t think he would accept either so guess thats a moot point.
Great choices, both. Either would shred Plugs in a debate. However, I believe we need them in their leadership roles in the House and Senate. Especially DeMint. We need to hold every precious senate seat we can hold onto.
Sorry, but Herman Cain is no Founding Father
I get the impression “plays well with others” is not marked on his performance report, hope he gets a VP like Bush got Cheney, who can deal with and work with all the egos.
If elected I give a guy like Cain 2 months before he is virtually hog tied in office, except the democrats wont be making “don’t disrespect the black man” excuses for him
Absolutely agree with you about DeMint. Can’t afford to lose his influence in the Senate.
Herman Cain replied to Jay Leno's lightning round Newt Gingrich question with "brilliant"--Romney: "nice hair"; Bachmann: "nice lady"; Perry: "good governor for Texas"; Paul: "crabby old man"
Newt would know the ins and outs of the Congressional-executive sausage factory--
--and has a unique conceptually based mind--
Of course Newt has his marital-Hillary-Pelosi campaign ribbons in a row--
all to the contrary notwithstanding.
Newt is always quick to correct the faulty premise to the ubiquitous why-haven't-you-Republicans-quit-beating-your-wives questions from moderators and the press.
It is no longer the stifling media Skinner box of 1995.
Rush never fails to cite that as the primary cause of the budget battle defeat.
The devil Obama would be coming down to Georgia at his electoral peril.
I came across something a little while ago.
Rick Perry, who will unveil his economic plan starting with an energy speech on Friday, did not get a chance to answer that question during the New Hampshire debate. But his campaign told me Wednesday that Steve Forbes is among those advising the Texas governor. Forbes, chairman and editor in chief of Forbes Media, ran for president in 1996 and 2000 and pushed both times for a flat tax, private Social Security accounts, and medical savings accounts.

So, I think its good that Cain mentions names and types to keep the momentum going.
Holding the least understood, most ridiculed, and most often ignored constitutional office in the federal government, American vice presidents have included some remarkable individuals. Fourteen of the former vice presidents became president of the United Statesmore than half of them after a president had died. One defeated the sitting president with whom he served. One murdered a man and became a fugitive. One joined the Confederate army and led an invasion of Washington, D.C. One was the wealthiest banker of his era. Three received the Nobel Peace Prize and one composed a popular melody. One served as a corporal in the Coast Guard while vice president. One had cities in Oregon and Texas named after him. Two resigned from the office. Two were never elected by the people. One was the target of a failed assassination plot. Another was mobbed in his car while on a goodwill mission. Seven died in officeone in his room in the U.S. Capitol and two fatally stricken while on their way to preside over the Senate. And one piano-playing vice president suffered political repercussions from a photograph showing him playing that instrument while a famous movie actress posed seductively on top of it.
