BREAKING!! Obama's HHS ends controversial program in health reform law (Obamacare dying)
the hill ^ | 10/14/2011 | sam baker

Posted on 10/14/2011 1:29:43 PM PDT by milwguy

The Obama administration will not implement a controversial piece of the healthcare reform law, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Friday.

Sebelius said the department will not continue trying to implement the CLASS program, which was intended to provide insurance for long-term care. Republicans charged that the program’s financial structure was unsustainable, and Sebelius conceded as much Friday.

“We have not identified a way to make CLASS work at this time,” she wrote on the Huffington Post's website.

Sebelius said HHS will “suspend” implementation of the program.

The department recently reassigned the people it had placed in the CLASS office, following the release of emails showing that HHS officials had raised concerns about the program’s viability even before it became law.

Half of ObamaCare's supposed deficit reduction comes from the Community Living Assistance Service and Supports (CLASS) Act, a long-term care benefit tacked onto the bill and scored as reducing the deficit by about $70 billion over the next decade. But that's only because the law's authors gamed the Congressional Budget Office's scoring rules. The score counted premiums collected this decade as reducing the deficit despite the fact that they'll be needed to pay out benefits later. Even worse, the premiums won't be enough to pay for all of the benefits: In the long-term, the program isn't self-sustaining, and will actually add to the federal deficit.

Obamacare is nothing more than an attempt for Government control over our lives. It has never been sustainable that’s a joke. It is a massive unfunded liability that will make Social Security and Medicare pale in comparison. The twist has always been get people hooked on the benefits then dare Republicans to strip the benefits away..... causing riots like we are about to start seeing on wall street... All liberals have is class envy and class warfare.... hopefully enough Americans wake up to the brainwashing of the left and start rejecting Liberalism enmasse.

Spent my morning in the Social Security office and then the POST OFFICE. I swore under my breath that ít’s going to be a real bad moment when these same folks run the health programs.

I think we should win there.

Yeah, whatever. But will they cut the funding for just this part of the failure that is Obama Care?

I'm happy to hear that Obamacare is collapsing under its own weight, but as a purely procedural matter don't understand how HHS can unilaterally suspend implementation of any legislation without congressional action. Does an agency have that type of authority?

Apparently - every Federal Agency employee can give tax-payer money to illegal immigrants, liars and thieves.

We have seen the videos.

It’s officially sanctioned and accounted for as - waste, fraud and abuse.

They passed the hateful thing, now lets see them defend it. Enough of these wavers and the rest of the closed door modifications. It’s completely unconstitutional activity.

this whole bill was full of the phrase “at the discretion of”.

This is something leftists like, to be able to arbitrarily make ad hoc decisions that exert power over others.

This was the Bernie Madoff clause. Another lib Ponzi Scheme which nobody got to read, including most members of Congress who couldn't read it until they passed it even though zero promised a fictional 72 hour review buffer between introduction and the vote.

Obamacare’s most oft used phrase is “at the discretion of the Secretary of Health and Human Services”.

This is why the libs could support it without reading it.

It simply gave a “smart person” the authority to implement stuff at will.

There is no money for implementation (no payroll) and there are state laws and a Supreme Court suit pending against the “law” itself. And then there are Humble Master’s favorables falling to 38%. Sebiliusssssss has suspended the program but not reversed the “law”. All this, just in time for the election race, as Rush predicted. Oh, my.

by making "your" health care "my" responsibility, "I" can now walk into your life and tell you how to live it

we know that telling people that it's FREE! even though it is waaay more expensive for lower quality service was to make it difficult to remove. The Left does not give one iota about the health of Americans, if they did there would not be an industry based upon the murder of unborn Americans.

That was another really insidious aspect of “universal” healthcare.
By making it a fixed pie, whatever your neighbor uses of that pie is pie that your own kids can’t use.

So, if the fat slob is smoking, eating cheeseburgers, and not exercising, you’re going to be inclined to accept “lifestyle laws” to make him live healthier.

The Republicans should also shout from the rooftops that those in power are going to ignore the law of the land. They just decide what they will enforce and what they will not enforce. It is tantamount to telling Congress go to Hell, we decide what the law is.

And I want the whole damn thing committed to the trash heap. It needs to be repealed.

That’s it really, the congresscritters are hacking away at it, piece by piece until it has no more of it’s original agenda there to implement. As it is, abortion funding has just been picked away, not there is another program that is getting hacked off.

Conservatives foretold this quite some time ago.

Obamacare and the CLASS Act: Creating a Long-Term Care Entitlement Burden

The CLASS Act: Obamacare’s Other Public Option

The CLASS Act: Ted Kennedy’s Haunting Legacy in ObamaCare

Obamacare and the CLASS Fraud

Even HHS officials working under Sebilius were saying back in January 2010 that the numbers weren't adding up.

One of the biggest lies regarding health care, and specifically the cost, is that government intervention would somehow “fix” it. Health care starting going downhill about thirty five years ago, precisely the time frame when government insinuated itself into the private medical industry on a scale like never before. It’s 10% actually healing the patient and 90% administrative overhead.

Chill; the Republicans are actually being a lot smarter about this; they are taking it apart piece by piece over a period of time, so that way there is no major backlash agaisnt the Tea Party and conservatives. First funding for abortion under Obamacare has been abolished, now they are dismantling another facet of Obamacare. One bit at a time, in a while all of it will be ended and in time Obama will be thrown out. He has only a little more time left and then he will be gone. Right now the pubbies are doing what they are paid to do (at last) because they know that they will ahve to asnwer for their actions come election time. Better this way than an overt confrontation that will just create a media frenzy and then possible trouble from the lefties in the streets.
