It’s now a “9999” plan: 9 percent personal income tax, 9 percent national sales tax, 9 percent business tax, and a 9 amp jolt if you try to illegally cross into the US.
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally.
The remarks, which came at two campaign rallies in Tennessee as part of a barnstorming bus tour across the state, drew loud cheers from crowds of several hundred people at each rally. At the second stop, in Harriman, Tenn., Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.

It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical. Mr. Cain often says he told the caller that he had recently returned from China, and if the Chinese could build the Great Wall then America could build a border fence.
Before we assume that Herman Cain’s suggestion will cause Democrats or even select Republicans to throw even more scorn in his direction, I’d suggest this: Cain could win over many of them simply by saying that in his border plan, the fence would be electrified with power provided by solar panels the government purchased from stimulus-backed green energy companies.

come on Cain is just making the point that you can’t be afraid to use whatever means you have at your disposal to secure the border.
i doubt he literally intends to build a continent wide electrical fence.
Near Clausthal Zellerfeld, West Germany, I saw a fence like the one Cain wants, in 1982.

I am liking the energy President, Mr. Perry. More money is will be sent to him! We need to develop our resources and I don’t care what anybody else says but I do know that IT’S THE SPENDING STUPID! .....and We definitely don’t need a national sales tax......

I guess there are people around here who would be fine with that.
Cain should never have said that aloud. Never.
He would never get 30% of the black vote and now, he may get zero percent of the Mexican vote.
I hope Perry can get some mojo back with his energy plan.
I like Cain but he has no cash to beat Romney. Perry is the only one that stands between Romney and the nomination.

I’d like to trace these proposals to the original speeches.
This creates a grand opening for Rand Paul who for a while has been preaching that any fence that can keep Mexicans out can also keep Americans in. The fence would not care if you are coming or going, or for that matter if you’re a migratory critter (EPA will probably throw a giant monkey wrench at this one). I expect it’s not too long before this gets toned back to “one in a list of possibilities.”
