He was attacking Perry’s position re: in-state college tuition levels for children of illegals vs. out-of-state tuition levels. Agree or disagree, he was attempting to make a policy point that citizens should never subsidize non-citizens.
I wouldn’t mind Santorum being the nominee, although I still don’t forgive him for endorsing Specter in 2004.
Once when Santorum was on Mark Levin’s show, Mark said it’s OK to support more than one candidate. Mark does want to help him, although Mark likes others, too.

Same when Bachmann attacked Perry, but it’s only politics. I think the politicians themselves are more thick skinned than their supporters. :)
He attacked Perry because he has trouble defending his points of view. It is called Vetting. That is what we do in GOP Primaries. It is a good thing.

I’m tempted to send him some, but the last time I sent a candidate $$$ was to Rick Lazio, and for years every GOP candidate in the country seemed to be bugging me for campaign $$$. It’s like I got put on the “sucker” list or something.
If an old endorsement that Karl Rove forced on him is a dis qualifier, then all our candidates are done. The Spector thing is nothing when you look at a 2 term Senator from PA having a 88% ACU rating. That is hard core from PA.
Levin is a supporter of all our Conservatives. I don’t blame him for not endorsing any one at this time. There is one person him and Rush will not endorse. Milt. They are on a tear about him in the last month. It is about time.
Yeah, I know he was talked into it by Bush/Rove. Still, they didn’t have a gun to his head, and he should’ve stuck by his principles. That said, now that Snarlin Arlen is gone it’s pretty much water under the bridge now. Santorum is probably my 2nd option if Cain somehow implodes.
I have contributed several times. Of course, that is usually the kiss of death to a campaign.
I realize that he is a long shot for the nomination; but I have no regrets about contributing. He has been a valuable voice for many of us for years. If the contributions simply amplify that voice during the campaign, it will have been money well spent.

Rick, send the $700k to Herman Cain Campaign and drop out. That will reduce Romney’s nomination chances by a substantial amount. Be a good boy, and do not pine for VP on Romney ticket. Your ratings have been consistently in 4th or 5th place. Time to face the reality. If you do that, you might have a chance at a cabinet position in Cain admin.
I’ve always liked Santorum. I think he’s really smart, right up there with Newt, but not as politically savvy.
I think Newt is really, really smart, but I don’t really like him as a person. I went to hear him speak once, just to meet him and get a feel for him as a person, back when he was the still the speaker of the house. I liked what he said, but I just didn’t like him. I’m guessing that a lot people would have the same visceral reaction.

Rick is A+ conservative. But so far, his poll numbers do not look like he is any where close to winning. He is not connecting with majority of voters. It does no good if you are the best conservative if you can’t win the nomination.

If only he were given more time in the debates, and loosen up just a bit, I think he would connect more with voters.
I wish one of the talk show hosts would have a series of debates with just a few of the candidates at a time, so they would have the time to express their views, and voters could really see what they stand for.
If he can survive long enough for some of the others to drop out, he’s bound to get more recognition. He needs time.

Yes, he needs time, and we primary voters also need more time to vet the candidates. I heard something about one of the states moving up their primary to DECEMBER! It’s outrageous!
I agree. With PA’s primary in April, having the others so early is infuriating.
That national sales tax of 9% is peanuts compared to:
No death tax
No payroll tax which is 15.3% on your gross paycheck
No tax on capital gains
No tax on dividends
Top corporate tax rate drops from 35 to 9%
Top individual rate drops from 35 to 9%
9-9-9 will stop punishing the most productive companies, encourage companies to bring back manufacturing with lower corporate tax, collect sales tax from the underground economy such as multi-billion dollar drug trade, and kick start the economy on life support. Note that you can avoid the sales tax by buying used cars and existing homes.
Cain happens to be on my short list, after Santorum and Bachmann, but I wonder if I would have to pay another 9% besides the 7% state/county tax I already have to pay.
People are worried about this, and if people like me having to pay a total of 16% is not the case, Cain needs to explain his plan better.
That’s what scares me — you just know that Marxists like Krugman are rubbing their hands together in glee at the prospect of socking us with an income tax *and* a sales tax. I just cannot support any such plan without first repealing the 16th Amendment.
Santorum is young, sharp, and well-versed in Foreign Policy.
If Santorum does not move up — and if Cain somehow manages to snag the nomination — Santorum SHOULD be Cain’s Vice Presidential pick, in my view.
I understand your point....only because so many people seem to feel the same way. I have to admit that I don’t have that reaction. But I’m like that. Throughout my working career I’ve gotten along well with and actually liked people who others almost universally despised. Usually it was just a gruff exterior they couldn’t get past. And Newt clearly has that.
The funny thing is I have a similar reaction to Santorum. Not that he isn’t likeable. He just strikes me as the kind of kid who was the hall monitor in 7th grade. I hated the hall monitors and they hated me.
Judging from the debates, Santorum seems to really have a lot of respect for Newt. It seems mutual too. I wouldn’t be surprised if the first to exit endorsed the other.

Yes, but his aim is off. Conservatives should aim FIRST at Romney. Instead, he aimed it at Perry, and regardless of his point he came off looking like Eddie Haskell.
Rick is hardcore conservative. I would vote for him for POTUS and not feel bad about it.

Using his defeat in Penn. as a launching pad to the Presidency is not a winning strategy.
If your payroll tax of 15.3% on your GROSS paycheck disappears, you will have large chunks of money left over after paying the federal sales tax. Remember you do not have all of your GROSS paycheck to spend on new stuff. Only your discretionary money left over after paying all recurring bills, is available to buy stuff. And you have the choice to buy used homes and used cars on which there will be zero federal sales tax.
Santorum lost me on foreign policy when he said it was OK for illegals to attend our universities by paying out of state tuition. He justified that by adding “we have lots of foreign students attending our universities”.
Obviously Rick does not comprehend than every foreign student is here on a LEGAL student visa. Every illegal on the other hand has broken or laws by sneaking in to the country without official permission.
He sure is persistent.

Like Harold Stassen. He had been a Republican governor of Minnesota and worked for Eisenhower. But he was most famous for always tossing his hat in the ring for the GOP nomination. 1948, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1980, 1984, 1988 and 1992.

George Bush needs to clarify what happened there. Santorum says one thing, Specter says another. Santorum says we got Alito and Roberts out of it, “pro-choice” Specter (the guy who borked bork) denies this. If what Santorum says about it is true, then Bush is being pretty flaky in not confirming that’s what happened. If he remains silent and it isn’t true, he is still being flaky because then there is absolutely no mitigating circumstances and Santorum is feeding folks a line of bull.
I’m not sure I like the argument even if it is true, but if it is I can see that getting Alito and Roberts vs. Toomey is a hard choice.

Larouche? Let’s give him a little more credit than that. He will be more the Harold Stassen sort of candidate. Rick is a GOP’er after all.
Thank you for telling me that. Was not aware of it. It is disappointing, to say the least.
Santorum still has my vote for Vice President. His strength is social issues (other than, apparently, how to deal with the children of illegals wrt to funding their education!) and foreign policy — a perfect complement to Cain’s economy-focused strengths.
And don’t forget that Specter had strongly backed Santorum in his previous 2 elections for Senate which were close - a lot more than just the tepid endorsements in a released statement ‘moderates’ normally give when the dreaded conservative manages to win the primary over their preferred “moderate” candidate. It would have required a lack of integrity on Santorum’s part to not return the favor when the person who had helped him so much now needed his help - essentially saying “sucker!” In the end, we all know that Specter ending up stabbing Santorum and everyone else in the back - ironically, even himself - instead of bowing out gracefully and ending a long Senate tenure in a respectful manner, he pulled that stunt with the party switch to avoid being defeated in the primary, only to end up with the same result and looking rather silly in the process...and Toomey has his former Senate seat.
