Good luck, (seriously) to Governor Perry.

His unfortunate words “you don’t have a heart” seem to have stuck with conservatives, who have been beaten over the head by liberals with that very invective for decades.

His fall from a front runner status has no where to go but up, if he can articulate his new economic plan and do tough, serious talking on the border issues.

“The “Perry is for Open Borders” people here on FR aren’t gonna like this article, Clairity.”

It’s obvious, when one presents them facts, they disappear into the woodwork. Then reappear on other Perry threads on other topics and continue their lies about “open borders Perry”. That makes it very clear that they couldn’t care less about really securing the border, they just use that lie to attack Perry.

It makes one wonder what their real agenda is, securing the border is clearly not one of them.

I said SECURING the border. Other governors passed laws, trying to make everyone in the state into an immigration enforcement officer, but have done NOTHING to actually SECURE the border to keep them from coming in to begin with.

Perry should be hailed as a hero for taking on border security. All the other laws are just ineffectual attempts and don’t adress the root of the problem: keeping people from coming in illegally in the first place.

Perry doesn’t just talk, he has a strong border security RECORD.

And as for his “heartless” comment, for which he already apologized — do the conservative who feel so offended — dump their friends, relatives, spouse, children, etc. if ever they say ONE word to them that they don’t like, regardless of everything else?

Claiming Perry is not suitable for being president because he said one word that they didn’t like is rather disingenous.

Let’s ignore his pro-small government, pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, anti-tax, anti-regulation, pro-border security record, because he had some sympathy for children of illegals, and allowed them — ten year ago — to PAY in-state tuition.

His words stuck. No amount of arguing with ME is going to change that.

I met the governor. He spent a lot of time with me. I like him. He even took the picture of us together.

That is some article.

The magnitude of the problem does not fit a sound-bite.

Gov. Perry’s policy speech on this will be good — expansive and well thought out — it will be attacked by the MSM, Dems and Obama who say everything is just fine.

Thanks for the post. That article is a valuable resource.

How many miles of triple tiered barbed wire topped electrified cyclone fencing with concrete dragon’s teeth, punctuated by machine gun towers with overlapping fields of fire would $400 million buy?

That's not the root of the problem, it's a symptom.

The reason there are 20 million illegal aliens living here is because incentives exist for them to remain, primarily jobs and the fact that they will never be deported once they make it across our border.

In the wake of 9/11, when we stepped up immigration enforcement against Middle Easterners (and only Middle Easterners), the largest group of illegals from that part of the world -- Pakistanis -- fled the country in droves to avoid being caught up in the dragnet. In 2002, the Social Security Administration sent out almost a million "no-match" letters to employers who had filed W-2s with information that was inconsistent with SSA records. The effort was so successful at exposing illegal aliens that business and advocacy groups organized to stop it and won a 90 percent reduction in the number of letters to be sent out.

Tunnels are an issue in some areas on the border- but tunnels cannot be built in many areas. The ground has to be right for tunneling and near me bedrock is not far and between caliche, bedrock, and sand it would be a major task for them to tunnel.

The thing is a fence works great in some areas, not so great in others. I personally think we need a fence on the border even in areas of tunnels. The worst area for tunneling is in Arizona- Nogales and Douglas especially and there is a fence already there for the most part. If nothing else it keeps the Mexican Army from being able to “wander” in and claim they didn’t know they crossed the border. I can see where it would be hard to fence Texas because of the river but each area has to do something to at least designate the border so there is no question where it is.

Not to long ago the majority of the border was a barb wire cattle fence and was falling down in many places. It was too easy for smugglers and even Mexican authorities to claim they were not illegally entering- they just “didn’t know” where the border was. A fence at least designates boundary- that is a big deal all on its own.

I know you want to defend Perry on all issues, especially the border- but Texas has a major problem East of El Paso- Hudspeth County and that whole area is out of control. I am close enough to get the word on what is going on there and there is no pretending that the area is in control of anyone but the cartels. I have no idea what a good solution would be for that area- but it has been ignored for the most part for many years.

Perry plays both sides of the border issues- panders to those that want open borders while at the same time claiming to be tough on the issues. He is not alone, President Bush and John McCain both did the same thing. The reason I got so angry at Perry for insinuating that those of us serious on the border issues are racist and heartless is because it is a political trick of those that play both sides use to distance themselves from “radicals” like me that want the border secure and laws enforced. President Bush called us vigalantes and racist; McCain claimed we wouldn’t do the work the illegals do. It’s all BS, and I am fed up with it.

I was just getting interested in Perry when he came out with the “heartless” crap and it just proved to me when it comes to the border he is just another politician and not serious about doing anything but play both sides for votes and not rock the boat. Real hard to get my vote after insulting me.

No one is going to win or lose on just the border issues alone. Candidates like Perry should know that those of us that are serious about the border issues do not want to vote for someone that will insult us just to play to the other side. He would have been far better off to have explained his actions better and been straight about what he intends to do to work on securing the border. I knew he was not really hard core on the border and was still interested in knowing more about him. I doubt we will ever have a candidate that is really tough on the border issues, or that one could get elected. I am willing to put up with differences of opinion on how to handle the border but not willing to support someone that is pandering to the open borders supporters.

So the democraps and the “community activist” say there is no problem on the border. Everything is copacetic.
That’s all I have to hear to know the border is messed up.
Obviously, Perry hasn’t secured anything which is why there is a problem there. I agree it isn’t the duty of state govt. None the less, if Perry is going to claim credit then he can take the criticism as well.

Other governors passed laws, trying to make everyone in the state into an immigration enforcement officer, but have done NOTHING to actually SECURE the border to keep them from coming in to begin with.

Illegals come here because there are incentives which make it worth while: free education (even subsidized college education, thanks to your "hero" Perry), free medical treatment, and jobs. As long as there are incentives, they will come, regardless of fences, boots on the ground, etc.

Your man Perry is against proven ways to reduce incentives, like E-Verify. He was for the Trans-Texas Corridor, which would have made it even easier to smuggle aliens deep into the country. He openly panders to La Raza and even the Muslim jihadist outfit CAIR.

Perry makes excuses, blaming everything on the Feds, while AZ and AL take action.

...and question the value of the law enforcement operation, which has cost (Texas) more than $400 million since it started in 2006.

$400M:
+ the millions in in-state college tuition subsidizing illegal alien children
+ the millions in taxes NOT paid by illegals working "in the shadows"
+ the millions in additional wages NOT paid to American workers because of illegal alien labor undercutting the job market
+ the millions in various social services consumed by illegal aliens

Attempting to secure the border while waiving the enticement of in-state college tuition for your children makes no sense - outside of Texas anyway.

Having been down to that part of the country three or four times in the past eight years, visiting Big Bend National Park and other parts of the southwest, I don’t envy anyone trying to cover that huge area. We’ve been right on the Rio Grande waving at people from the other side. There’s security forces here and there, but I’d say it would be pretty difficult to effectively cover that area without a lot more.

Perry is in desperation mode-—everything so far has decimated his numbers. Trotting the wife out as a political prop bombed even as Perry dumbly commented that he “agreed” with her whining.

Perry’s raised the stakes in his “confidence game”-—saying anything to keep his dead candidacy alive. Perry snatches numbers out of thin air, pastes on that confident grin and pitches the con to voters...sounds a lot like Madoff connning his marks.

As FReeper DTogo points out-—none of Perry’s figures add up.

He’s too dense to realize that trying to sell his cockamamie border plan to those he called “heartless” is useless.

Unmanned walls and fences are useless.

Exactly. That's why Cains plan of soldiers with real guns and real bullets to back up the electric fence is so appealling to the law abiding.

The American people have been hungry for someone with a bold plan, and Cain is the man who has it.

Even with 150 million, he won’t last long......
