Former Drug Czar Makes Controversial Statements About Border Security

EL PASO, Texas -- Comments made about border security by former drug czar, retired general Barry McCaffrey, at a U.S. House subcommittee Friday caught the attention of U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso.

"I really believe that it had a political purpose," said Reyes.

McCaffrey testified that he participated in a seminar-style meeting in El Paso within the last 18 months alongside "100 people" from El Paso and Mexico. The topic was the threat of drug cartel-connected criminals operating in Texas.

"People from both sides of the border said they feel intimidated and a senior police official in the city of El Paso, in response to a question from a Mexican national, said, 'If these people come across the border, I will not be able to protect you,'" McCaffrey testified.

This is remarkable. Congressman Reyes was basking in the evil glow of Nancy Pelosi for years. He was touting the safeness and wonder of our glorious city which is attached at the hip to powerhouse Fort Bliss. He rebuked George Bush's friendship on numerous occassions and criticized Rick Perry's efforts at controlling illegal immigration. Our city council was among the first to "boycott" Arizona. Now Reyes is being challenged from within his own party by a strong young Democrat who has patiently waited his turn. (In an 85% Hispanic population, Republicans cannot get past the straight ticket vote.) If anyone wishes to add to the story-telling of his challenger, I would leave it to them. Our Mayor is in the process of being recalled along with other officials for overturning the vote of the people on a Gay issue. He and Reyes have been selling the "El Paso is the safest city in America" award which they bought for a couple of years. We're in deep trouble here and we ARE part of America. I have no idea what part Ft Bliss will play in this if the Cartels start coming over. The Federal Government has failed Texas and Arizona for political reasons and we may be on the brink of paying the cost of that game-playing. If the cartels push thru here in the same manner as they have done in Arizona, we may all be done. They're working hand in hand with Arabs.

I’ll add your whole city to my prayer list. Your testimony is alarming.

I used to live in TX, but I never visited El Paso, although I once had a dog from there. She was a pure bred Golden Retriever from a litter that was brought to Texas Tech by a young lady and sold to several students — mostly football players and my son. My son conned me into giving a home to that puppy “because my roommates are feeding her tacos and beer”. I was living in Washington State at the time, and I paid for her plane ticket. I loved that dog who lived with us for 15 1/2 years.

The University of Texas at El Paso at one end of Texas and the University of Texas at Brownsville at the other end have both had to lock down their campuses more than once the last 3-4 years because of bullets from across the river hitting the buildings. It's a miracle no one has been killed. But, hey, we keep getting told the border is safe.

The bottom line is the cartels are in charge and taking their power away is going to be bloody.

See my tagline. I live in El Paso but work in Fabens,Tornillo and Fort Hancock.
Think about it like this. Reyes is your Duke. The El Paso County Commissioners are your "High Sheriffs". All their business is done behind closed doors because the "serfs" don't need to know.
The flap about the Mayor is a diversion. In fact the whole. "I'm a queer" issue was a diversion while they stole your liberty.
Let me put it this way.
Your politicians have established a level of corruption that amazes even the Mexicans.

You don't know about this?
Tornillo/Gualalupe
It's causing the biggest bloodbath in Mexican history right on your back porch.

“biggest bloodbath”

I read this solicitation 15 times. It seems innocuous as written. I’m going to study it more until something clicks. I can’t connect the dots to anything I’m familiar with. WHAT IS THIS? I recognize toll bridge and a few things but it doesn’t register as a whole. I admit to having paid little attention to anything over the past two years but this is unreal. What bloodbath? Where can I learn about what is going on there? What bloodbath? Who is involved?

the cartels are in charge and taking their power away is going to be bloody.

Only if it's done the wrong way. We tried to take away the Prohibition rumrunners' power through force of arms, and it was bloody and futile; then we relegalized their goods, which diminished their power without a shot being fired.

OK,maybe a little "over the top" but now you know what the prize is. Six lanes with "non-intrusive" inspection and a straight shot to I-10.
Google "Praxedis" and "Marisol Valles García".
From what I've heard the military has moved in but don't take too much stock in that.
"La mordida" is alive and well.
