UMass students rally at student union as part of OWS movement; profs urge change to socialism

More than 200 students gathered outside the University of Massachusetts Student Union to continue their call for economic justice as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement, which enters its 26th day.

...

Student after student on Wednesday told stories of parents losing jobs and health care, or of having mounting student debt caused by what they say is Wall Street greed. Some bore signs reading “1 percent stop bogarting your stash.”

There were chants of “one solution, revolution,” and a call to spread the word about Occupy UMass so there would be enough students and others to occupy a UMass building – likely the Whitmore Administration Building. Two economics professors spoke about the need for economic change.

“We need to change the system,” said assistant professor Deepankar Basu “if we want to get rid of the problem.” He said capitalism “creates inequalities… it leads to imperialism and war.”

Professor David Kotz said there is more than enough money for all to live comfortably. He said, for example, if the military budget was reduced to its late 2000 level, $23.9 million would be available – enough money to pay the cost of a UMass education at the in-state rate for 19 million students.

With a change in the economy ‘there would be a decent lifestyle for everyone in this country,” he said. “No rich person is getting richer by creating jobs.” He said the way to equity and jobs for all those who want and are able to take one is a systemic change to socialism.

“Capitalism has had its days and it’s failing to meet the needs of the majority,” he said.

The problem is Obamanomics. Anyone see any anti-Obama signs in these protests? No. What a farce.

From the nazi list of demands in the 1920s

We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living.

The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within its confines and be for the good of all. Therefore, we demand: … an end to the power of the financial interests.

We demand profit sharing in big business.

We demand a broad extension of care for the aged.

We demand … the greatest possible consideration of small business in the purchases of national, state, and municipal governments.

In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our entire system of public education …

We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents…

The government must undertake the improvement of public health – by protecting mother and child, by prohibiting child labor … by the greatest possible support for all clubs concerned with the physical education of youth.

We combat the … materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people can only proceed from within on the foundation of the common good before the individual good.

Sound familiar kiddies?

Socialists are like locusts. They use up the resources and move on. I’ve heard many Mass. people are already destroying New Hampshire now.

Any professor advocating the end of capitalism should be fired and deported if not a citizen.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”..
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A....

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.

“I am all in favor of socialism in Massachusetts.”

This nation is NO LONGER capitalism.

Public schools are SOCIALISM.
SS is SOCIALISM.
Welfare is SOCIALISM.
Taxes are progressive, that’s SOCIALISM.

Fiat currency supports, wait for it, SOCIALISM.

The truth is that SOCIALISM is what needs to be GONE.

And that includes the BAILOUTS FOR BANKS,
CRONY SOCIALISM AT ITS WORST.

Keep protesting jackasses you will have $100,000 in student debt, a useless BA degree in revolution studies and your picture and name on someones facebook page to keep you unemployable for all but the most menial jobs.

Wonder when they start debating on how many people will need to be liquidated....

Larry Grathwohl, an undercover FBI agent who infiltrated The Weather Underground, claimed that Ayers wanted to overthrow the United States government. In an interview in January 2009, Grathwohl stated that:
"The thing the most bone chilling thing Bill Ayers said to me was that after the revolution succeeded and the government was overthrown, they believed they would have to eliminate 25 million Americans who would not conform to the new order."

Oh please.... Don’t do that to us! We have many, many little towns all around Mass that are full of conservatives. Problem is, all the big cities pull in illegals and dead people to vote for these morons. We are out numbered!

Not all Mass are liberal idiots! Check out a map sometime when voting occurs.... Most of the towns go red except all the larger cities/slums with tooooo many people in them.

Agreed. I have friends and relatives in Western MA and most are at least conservative by MA standards. The People’s Republic of Cambridge can have them.

I’m willing to bet the great majority of economics professors in this country are of the extreme left-wing variety. My step-daughter had an econ prof in her college who awarded a special prize to anyone who could “disprove” the Laffer Curve theory. My step-daughter won the prize. I had a difficult time controlling my laughter when my wife told me how her daughter had won the prize by “disproving” the Laffer Curve theory.

...enough money to pay the cost of a UMass education...why should a UMass education cost anything? - since the protesters are so anxious to see "corporate greed" ended, it seems the best place to start would be institutions of higher education which make unconscionable profits and should be required to open their doors for anyone who wants an education - for free......
