In a belated dedication speech for the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial today, President Obama suggested that the civil rights leader would have stood on the side of Occupy Wall Street:
"At this moment when our politics appear so sharply polarized and faith in our institutions so greatly diminished we need more than ever to take heed of Dr. King's teachings," the president said.
"If he were alive today, I believe he would remind us that the unemployed worker can rightly challenge the excesses of Wall Street without demonizing all who work there," he said, adding: "Aligning our reality with our ideals often requires the speaking of uncomfortable truths and the creative tension of non-violent protest."
I find that hard to believe. When Dr. King was organizing for social change, he certainly wouldn't have tolerated the type of behavior taking place in Zucotti Park. There was a particular goal, and everyone knew that they had to dress and act in a respectable manner in order to garner change. The King Center published the Six Steps of Non-Violent Social Change:

I doubt Dr. King would have wanted to be associated with these kooks.
Ken Salazar said that equality still has a long way to go. Shortly after that, America’s first black president spoke.
Apparently we have to make Obama emperor to go far enough.
MLK, Jr. would also have supported ObamaCare and the rest of the Socialist agenda. So what? Who cares what MLK, Jr. would have or would not have supported? The rule of law stands for what’s right regardless of who does or doesn’t support it. Mobs that disturb the peace and freedom of others should be stopped and violators arrested regardless of who supports them.
MLK would have looked at Zero and said: “Who’s the white guy?”
MLK would be endorsing Herman Cain.
And Lenin would have supported Obama. As long as we’re making comparisons.
MLK would have stood with the Tea Party protestors too. There, I’ve said something every bit as truthful and verifiable as what 0 said.
Now just a bleeping second. I thought Martin Luther King was a Republican?
I have never see a President who DIVIDES this country like OBAMA. He is supporting Anarchy in America.
To be emperor he has to have a civilian army, just as well funded and just as well armed. Remember that one? He’s on his way of getting it.
He's doing everything possible to stay in the Whitehouse and he knows the election is lost for him.
Sadly I heard some of this tired speech today. Did anyone else notice how he got blacker as the speech went on? His pattern of speech changed to that of a hip hop black preacher.
Why is it that he only acts black when it suits him? He needs the votes.
I doubt he would have wanted to be associated with Obama, either.
How utterly ignorant & offensive. The civil rights movement was rightfully based on a clear violation of the Constitution; discriminating against a race created equal in the eyes of God & our laws. So how does being envious of the wealthy - exercising their constitutional rights to make a living - equate to racial discrimination? Nobody, I mean nobody, has a right to someone else’s property. And nobody owes you...you owe yourself! It’s called freedom; it’s called accountability. Obama is encouraging civil disobedience, a scorched earth policy, to maintain power. It is simply treasonous!
He also seemed to support the socialism of the yahoos at the OWS gathering.
I'd say King would have stood with these yahoos stinking up parts of the civilized world.
Who’s kidding who here? MLK would completely be with OWS.
I doubt MLK would support a bunch of commie socialist anti semetic drones who poop on cop cars and want to destroy Capitalism
He knows its the only way he has any chance of winning in 2012..he knows that by creating anarchy, we won’t have any election in 2012..he knows he’s toast so this is his only shot at winning
MLK would have said to Obama, “What you want, white boy?”
Don't you find just a tad bit curious that the media never seem to focus on how many protesters are actually at these “OWS" events across the country? The Salt Lake City event is a joke that seems to be losing steam every day.
I'm not impressed, nor afraid.
As one Marxist to another....
"Whos kidding who here? MLK would completely be with OWS."
I hate to burst the bubble of those that believe MLK was some kind of red blooded American capitalist. MLK was a socialist through and through. Ask yourself, would Obama be so proud of MLK if MLK was a known supporter of capitalist economics? Hardly. MLK would be dismissed as an ememy of "social justice" if that were the case. And we all know what social justice is all about. Punishing the successful as a means to reward the unsuccessful.
He did preach for non-violent social reform. But what kind of social reform did MLK desire besides equal rights for negros?
I know what you’re saying and I agree, but does their leader agree. He can cause hate and discontent with these people and I believe that is his army.
|"Actually MLK was a republican and not a socialist/communist."|
Half true. King was a registered Republican, but he was also a socialist/communist (as many RINO republicans are during this day and age):
"Hofford continued: "What is missing from most of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations is any discussion of the radical King [who] put forth a philosophy and theology stressing the need to balance individual will with community will." Hofford recalls that King was a strident opponent of capitalism, a Marxist liberation theologian who preached that "the problem of racism, the problem of economic exploitation and the problem of war are all tied together." King sought not only an end to legally enforced racial segregation, but also a radical restructuring of American society.
In a September 1967 speech in Atlanta, King condemned capitalism as an inherently unjust economic system and declared that his movement was devoted to "restructuring the whole of American society." In Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?, a book published in that same year, King endorsed the time-honored socialist demand for a guaranteed minimum annual wage, which would be "pegged to the median income of society" and would "automatically increase as the total social income grows." In this particular example of literary "borrowing," King was merging his voice with that of Karl Marx, who coined the phrase "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
I stand corrected.
He is a liar and he has desecrated MLK’s legacy. It’s obscene.
Yes, perhaps. And Mao Tse Tung, Che Guevara, and Fidel Castro would have supported Barack Obama.
Barry Soetoro says a lot of things that are not true. Thats because he’s a pathological liar. MLK was interested in procuring Civil Rights for Blacks and unity among the races. He would have had zero interest in being associated with this band of miscreants and frankly I don’t think MLK would have had a lot of use for BHO either.
That’s ironic coming from the king of crony capitalism (Solyndra and others) and government regulation.
