College Diversity Nears Its Last Stand

ABIGAIL FISHER, a white student, says she was denied admission to the University of Texas because of her race. She sued in Federal District Court in Austin, causing Judge Sam Sparks to spend time trying to make sense of a 2003 Supreme Court decision allowing racial preferences in higher education. “I’ve read it till I’m blue in the face,” Judge Sparks said in an early hearing in Ms. Fisher’s lawsuit. But the meaning of the central concept in the decision — “this esoteric critical mass of diversity of students,” he called it — kept eluding him.

The 2003 Supreme Court decision he was trying to understand, Grutter v. Bollinger, had elevated the concept of “diversity” from human-resource department jargon to constitutional stature. The pursuit of diversity, a five-justice majority said, allows admissions personnel at public universities to do what the Constitution ordinarily forbids government officials to do — to sort people by race.

Judge Sparks in the end ruled that the Grutter decision meant that Texas was allowed to take account of Ms. Fisher’s race. Now her case is hurtling toward the Supreme Court. That could provide a fresh opportunity to consider what we mean when we talk about diversity. It could also mean the end of affirmative action at public universities.

Ms. Fisher’s lawyers filed a petition seeking a Supreme Court review last month, and legal experts say the justices will probably agree to hear it, setting the stage for a decision by June. Such a decision, given changes in the membership of the court since 2003, is likely to cut back on if not eliminate the use of race in admissions decisions at public colleges and universities.

In University hiring, diversity means: Don’t hire the White guy until you’ve exhausted all other possibilities.

Seems pretty clear or me:

Section. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

They tout this nebulous concept of diversity, meanwhile ensnaring millions of brown and black (and white) people with easy, limitless debt —NONE of which is dischargeable via bankruptcy.

IT IS A FORM OF FRAUD and it is a BUBBLE.

They’re graduating the the debt equivalent of a HOUSE, but with NO HOUSE.

What woman would wish to marry such a debtor?

THIS IS FRAUD.

Banks were said to be TRAPPING people in liar loans —why not Universities...?

Fraud is OKAY —for LIBERALS.

When I was a teenager (and that was a long time ago) I wanted to apply for a job at Sears department store. A family member already worked there - she asked in the HR department about open positions. Her friend in HR asked “Is ransomnote white?” My sister said “well, yeah” and the HR person shook her head and said “no, we are required to hire a diverse applicant” and that there was no point in my applying for work there.
As I understand it - Asians in the US have the hardest ‘racial’ time getting into college because their demographic is considered ‘over represented’ and therefore their applications tend to be passed over for ‘less fortunate’ minorities and...whites.

In large companies, diversity is about hiring and promoting people based on skin color and sex, and then pretending that it was solely on the merits, and that skin color and sex had nothing to do with it.

The Grutter opinion was incoherent. Sandra Day O'Connor wrote it. It elevated "diversity" to the mystical and constitutionally irrelevant level approached in the Casey "sweet mystery of life" decision, or the "penumbras" and "emanations" discovered in Roe.

One of my best buds is Asian. Filipino to be exact, and he’s right-wing. Even though he has a better chance of getting in by checking the “Asia/Island Pacific” race box, he doesn’t. He wanted to get into the course based solely on his grades.

And what pisses him off is that nowadays, you “have” to speak Spanish in L.A. to get a job and he doesn’t. He actually does NOT want to learn because his logic is that “if these mexican libs keep harping about MULTI-CULTURALISM’ then shouldn’t they ALSO learn Filipino? MULTI means MANY. Why are we the ones bending over to these burrito-eating jackholes?” He part-times at the Conservative Club for Growth.

The articles I read on Asians being ‘over represented’ tend to be CA universities (private and pub) rejecting students of Japanese descent.

When my sister worked in an academic setting, she learned to demand that others correctly identify HER ethnicity. They would mutter dismissively ‘well, WHITE’ obviously. She would arch a brow and explain to them that WHITE wasn’t an ethnicity, it was a skin color. She would continue to demand they identify her ethnicity. They would stammer ‘Irish, English or German -they are all the same’. She would frostily tell them that they were insulting her with their ignorance of her proud cultural heritage, with their assumption that there is just one monolithic ‘race’ of ‘white’ people instead of rich diverse cultural identities, and by implying that the culturally respectful correct identification of her ethnicity was not important because how could her ethnicity be less important than theirs....? She suggested archly that they may want to become open minded culturally sensitive global citizens and begin to appreciate cultures that they have overlooked or denigrated and that it was never too late to start. Oh and if asked, she never failed to identify their ethnicity correctly - they had already made sure everyone knew.

The way you take care of this is to gradually denigrate the value of marriage in a minority community. When it is seen as something undesirable, your question is no longer an issue. It's all about the culture.

I think we should DEMAND diversity in the NBA and the NFL.

Neither the NBA nor the NFL “look like Amercia” to coin a phrase from the liberal progressives. We need to see 80 percent white and 20 percent minority in both of these professional leagues.
