Perry slashed environmental enforcement in Texas
Star-Telegram ^ | October 17, 2011 | CHRIS TOMLINSON

Posted on 10/17/2011 2:32:13 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry likes to say the best way to promote economic growth is to reduce regulation. When it comes to the environment, Perry has made Texas one of the most industry-friendly states in the nation.

Perry has cut funding for clean air programs and sued the Environmental Protection Agency to avoid enforcing laws to make the air cleaner. As part of his Republican presidential campaign, he routinely blasts the White House for tightening environmental standards.

"As president, I would roll back the radical agenda of President Obama's job-killing Environmental Protection Agency," Perry wrote recently in an op-ed for the New Hampshire Union-Leader. "Our nation does not need costly new federal restrictions, especially during our present economic crisis."

....[David Blackmon] said the Texas agency has "reached out to business and found solutions that not only cleaned up the air, but did it in a way that has a minimal impact on our ability to do business."

.....Cyrus Reed, the Texas legislative director for the Sierra Club, said the state may lose the progress it's made toward cleaner air.

"We've had to come forward with citizen suits to get the law enforced," Reed said. "It's not our job to launch citizen suits, but we've had to do it in Texas."

Another new measure made tightening air quality permits on the oil and gas industry more difficult. That law, which Perry signed in June, requires the Texas environmental agency to analyze the effect of new regulation on the economy - including how it might hurt a company - before implementation. The economic impact could override the environmental benefit of the new regulation.

The new law reflects Perry's contention that global warming is a questionable theory and that regulation always creates an adverse business climate.

Romney’s Troubling Appointments (Mitt's environmental policy team now works for Obama) …….“"EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has taken most of the fire from Republicans as her agency rolls out a slew of controversial new climate and clean air rules. But [Gina] McCarthy, the EPA assistant administrator of the Office of Air and Radiation, has taken on much of the heavy lifting of writing, structuring, and implementing the rules.

“Lisa’s the coach and Gina’s the quarterback” in the work of rolling out new clean air regulations, said Daniel Weiss, an energy and climate policy expert at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank with close ties to the Obama administration. “She’s running the plays, improvising on the line.”

Another Romney environmental adviser in the effort to regulate “greenhouse gases” is now Obama’s Director of Science and Technology Policy, John Holdren. Dr. Holdren has some exotic views: …………..

Romney's Remedy Perry's RomneyCare ad

Romney’s Advisers Met With Obama to Help Craft ‘Obamacare’ “Three of Mitt Romney’s advisers went to the White House at least a dozen times in 2009 to consult on the former Massachusetts governor’s health care plan that President Obama used as a model for his initiative -- now a federal law that all the Republican presidential candidates want to repeal.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday he was "not in a position to comment on specific meetings." But in a remark that won't help Romney in his pursuit for the 2012 Republican nomination, Earnest repeated that Obama took cues from the Massachusetts legislation.

"You've certainly heard the president himself say that there were a number of very good ideas included in the health care plan that then-Gov. Romney put in place in Massachusetts that were incorporated into the Affordable Care Act and so it’s clear that these are some ideas that we were interested in incorporating and we did incorporate.

"But in terms of individual meetings and who participated and what the goal of them was, I don’t have that information,” he said.”……

Why Rick Perry’s Energy Plan Might be a Game-Changer ...."The financial crisis of 2008 reached critical mass almost precisely three years ago. And in Washington, the band plays on.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The band in Washington isn’t really playing on; they took their hands off their musical instruments and put them around the country’s economic throat years ago. We are by talent and resources among the richest nations on earth, and by our political freedoms, far and away the greatest. But for going on 30 years now, while we have spent more money that we take in, we have chosen to put much of our natural wealth off limits. That choice has led in direct and indirect ways to the straits we find ourselves in now, at the mercy of some of the world’s worst actors to fuel our economy, and on the precipice of bankruptcy. The current president has taken just about every negative fiscal trend and choice and accelerated them. The best line about Obama is simple: He made it all worse. He has made it harder for us to exploit our natural wealth, by making more of it off-limits and by using regulations to make it either too difficult or even illegal to tap. Whether he believes he had noble reasons or not is irrelevant; the effect of Obama’s actions is that everything is more expensive, jobs are more scarce and America is less secure.

In his energy plan, Perry shows that he understands all of this, and will fix the problem.”…………………

Sep 20, 2011: Ex-President Clinton: Green movement needs money " NEW YORK (AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday that the success of the alternative energy movement is hampered by a lack of financing. His comments came as world leaders attending his annual philanthropic conference expressed fears about rising seas.

July 2011: CALIFORNIA: …..“Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become a folk hero for people like Stewart as he's marketed his state as a low-cost and business-friendly alternative to California, which is fertile job-hunting ground for Perry. Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.....

Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said……… [CA Economic Development Corporation President Mark] Lascelles emphasized that it does no good to belabor California's regulatory environment. "Unfortunately, we can't avoid it. We have to deal with it," he said. Speaker focuses on job creation

July 2, 2011: Montana: Legal gamesmanship threatens our energy future “Texas Gov. Rick Perry is able to boast about job growth under his watch, noting that over 265,000 jobs, or nearly 37 percent of the jobs created nationwide since the summer of 2009, have been created in the Lone Star state. He credits this growth to a few simple conditions: low taxes, a regulatory climate that is fair and predictable, and a legal system that limits frivolous lawsuits. According to the Wall Street Journal, nearly one-fourth of the 70 companies that left California this year relocated to Texas. When new or relocating companies and investors survey the landscape and consider Montana, what do they see? Well, when it comes to natural-resource development, the landscape looks risky. Recent headlines highlight two major resource development projects slogging through endless legal and regulatory challenges. Investment flees this kind of uncertainty, so Montanans interested in the future economic stability of this state should be wary of the signals we send…” --- [relates short history of 2 outrageous examples] -- “The common experience for Tongue River Railroad and Tonbridge Power is this: Even if you play by the rules, even if you follow the letter of the law, even if you engage with the public during a planning process, even if you get formal approval from the regulatory authorities, you are certain to face organized opposition whose sole intent is to frustrate project development to the point of financial starvation….”

December 27, 2010: EPA, Texas go to war over carbon-emission rules "And so it begins, and on the most fertile red-state territory in the nation. Texas, which got four more seats in the House through the 2010 Census reapportionment, has had its air-quality rules superceded by the EPA as part of its aggressive new action on carbon emissions. Governor Rick Perry promises a fight:............."

Sept 12, 2011:Luminant sues EPA, says it will shut two coal units, cut 500 jobs …”At the Big Brown power plant in Freestone County, Units 1 and 2 will switch over to Powder River Basin coal and the nearby lignite mines will close. The moves will lead to about 500 job cuts, the company said.

“While Luminant is making preparations to meet the rule’s compliance deadline, this morning it also filed a legal challenge in an effort to protect facilities and employees, and to minimize the harm this rule will cause to electric reliability in Texas,” the company said in a statement.

The company is asking an appeals court for a stay implementing the Cross-State rule, saying it is illegal because the EPA didn’t include Texas in the draft rules released in 2010. The final rules released in June 2011 included a heavy emissions reduction burden for Texas.

Barack Obama visits Solyndra, his $500,000,000 U.S. taxpayer funded failed investment in solar manufacturing. SOLAR! Yes -- that's the ticket (Obama's money laundering scheme and the "green" club for dismantling the U.S. economy) while China loads up our coal in our ports and heads home to build more crap for us to buy so they can build up their armed forces - and level that world playing field just like Obama's Science and Technology adviser John P. Holdren (right out of Romney's old government think-tank -- along with Gina McCarthy, the chief EPA clean air regulator) told us must be done to make the world a better place.

Gov. Rick Perry delivers Energizing American Jobs and Security
Source speech at the United States Steel Irvin Works in West Mifflin, Pa

October 14, 2011..........Gov. Rick Perry: "The plan I present this morning, Energizing American Jobs and Security, will kick-start economic growth and create 1.2 million jobs.

It can be implemented quicker and free of Washington gridlock because it doesn’t require congressional action. Through a series of executive orders, and other executive actions, we will begin the process of creating jobs soon after the inauguration of a new president.

There is, of course, an important role for Congress to play. And in a matter of days I will offer to the American people a broader package of economic reforms that I will take to Congress when I am elected President. My complete economic growth package will tackle tax reform, entitlement reform and real spending reductions in order to address our growing debt crisis."............

Oh that's right, you and yours are liars and fakes and use Alynski/liberal tactics to try to destroy the confidence of the voter because you can't beat his message.

I have determined that is a poster has changed his tagline to reference a complaint against Perry, you are working for a campaign, probably Romney.

Interesting posting history, org.whodat. It seems that every post you have on Perry is a hate-filled lie. No where did I see any post questioning "Willard". Since Perry is seen as the only real competition to keep "Willard" from winning the nomination, and all you can do is implement Progressive Alinsky techniques in a feeble and laughable attempt to hurt Perry it is quite clear that you are for "Willard" taking the nomination since that is really the only positive effect from your childish behavior.

Another new measure made tightening air quality permits on the oil and gas industry more difficult. First you berate another poster for a hate-filled lie, and then you post an incredibly obvious lie: "that Since Perry is seen as the only real competition to keep "Willard" from winning the nomination,".

The hypocrisy of many Perry supporters is monumental. The "projection" they demonstrate would bring a tear to the eye of the most ardent progressive.

Environmentalists, and liberals killed transportation infrastructure in Texas too. They want money spent on light rail in major inner-city hubs instead.

The environmentalists were all over shutting down Texas infrastructure (claiming 20 lanes running from Mexico to Canada)

CorridorWatch.org Submitted Three TTC-35 Draft Environmental Impact Statement Comment Documents
July 27, 2006
August 17, 2006
August 21, 2006

CorridorBotch.org, or David Stall-ed………The problem is, Corridor Watch et. al. are by no means allowing the facts to get in the way of a good beating. Every proposed path (and there are still at the very least three) currently under consideration places the TTC on the northern and southern ends of planned SH-130, which is a good fifteen miles west of the villes in question and in crisis over their alleged impending devastation.

That these Corridor clowns are asserting anything with certitude belies their veracity on all things, because right now NO ONE outside of the TxDoT TTC circle knows anything about any aspect of the plans.

As per Federal Highway Administration (FHA) law, these chosen few are required to remain tight-lipped thereon; to violate this legal oath of secrecy would be to inviolate the ridiculously exhaustive two Tier, six year FHA approval process, forcing them to then begin again anew.

So too would it open them up to lawsuits from any and every environmental group in the state wishing to return us all to the horse and buggy (or simply to caves awaiting Prometheus to grace us with his fiery presence), further impeding any progress on any progress.

No Press queries, no citizen demands, no Freedom of Information Act requests can breach this federally mandated confidence. These officials must sit silently by whilst the CW.org vanguards storm the ramparts with their dishonest assaults on a plan the details of which they are absolutely bereft.

Has no one else yet noticed the blatant inconstancy of the Stalls et. al. decrying the super secrecy of the process, yet promulgating with absolute certitude that towns criss-crossing the state are all doomed to TTC ruin?

There are attending political ramifications to all of this, which is rarely the case when one is discussing a candidate who garnered a mere 8% of the interest of the citizenry. For there is a distinct waft of Strayhorn in the air surrounding the empty Stall and his Corridor Watch.

Comptroller Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn, currently adrift on signature collection waters in her bid for Independent Gubernatorial validity, has been a fixture at CW.org events, railing prodigiously (yet without substance) against the TTC, and the very concept of toll roads.

But herein arises a consistent theme when discussing Madame Comptroller; her inconsistency. Because prior to her decision to run against the TTC-proposing Governor Rick Perry, she too saw the meritoriousness of the concept of consumption road funding. “……

Thanks again. The more information the better.

Perry announced his Florida team today. He’s got 5 million a month to spend before the first primary. Perry is not done by any stretch.

Why can't those who jumped from the Palin wagon to the Cain Train just be happy Perry is doing the job Cain wont do. Perry has said nothing derogatory about Cain yet is spending his millions going after Romney. It can only help Cain right?

Gregory: “Why you and not Mitt Romney?”

Cain: ”Why me and not Mitt Romney? Mitt Romney is a great businessman. I have a lot of respect for him. He has been more of a Wall Street executive. I have been more of a Main Street executive.”

If this is as hard as Cain is gonna hit Romney (MTP on Sunday) then he will need Perry anyway. Be grateful.

Oh by the way, didn't Romney tell voters what a swell guy Cain was too and to check him out? I think he did.
