Santorum hits Cain on gay marriage in Iowa
Politico ^ | Maggie Haberman

Rick Santorum has a new target in Iowa - Herman Cain.

Santorum, who is trying to appeal to social conservative voters in the Iowa caucuses, seized on the new frontrunner's comment on "Meet the Press" that he wouldn't push for a federal amendment banning same-sex marriage during a Radio Iowa interview:

“The idea that this is issue should be left to the states is the position Barack Obama takes and it’s not the right position...There needs to be a uniform definition of marriage in this country.”

“Leaders should be out there advocating for what is in the best interest of our society and what’s in the best interest of mothers and fathers and children and I’m going to do that,” Santorum said. “I have done it and I have done it here in Iowa and I don’t know of anybody else in this campaign, including Herman Cain, who has made that kind of blanket commitment to the institution of marriage and the stability of the family.”

Expect to hear more about this at Tuesday's debate.

I believe in real marriage between one man and one woman.

What Mr. Santorum forgets is that there is nothing in the CONSTITUTION that allows the federal govt. to decide this for us.

Next!

He is on whatever side you want him to be on. What he will do once he is in office is run to he left like always.

So he cries out the State’s Rights card at the debate about a sales tax and then he wants to go totally counter to the 14th amendment on this issue?

Maybe if he were true to the 14th stand, he would just keep it there and encourage other states to refuse to recognize that marriage if they decided to move to those states. And to make sure it is only a ballot initiative and cut the courts out of legislating from the bench.

I’m with you — and what Santorum needs to understand is that his problem is not Cain per se. Santorum’s problem is that people just don’t perceive him as leadership material.

Leadership and charisma are harsh and unfair task masters - and hard to pin down sometimes. But Rick just don’t have ‘em. He’s right most of the time, a good man, a great family, and he did win in a tough state at one time. But he just doesn’t have “it.”

And nit picking Cain or Perry or anyone else won’t gain “it” for him.

I agree with Rick Santorum on the need for a national consensus on what constitutes a “marriage” Yet I recognize we currently have DOMA which would protect Marriage in those States which yet acknowledge the Supreme Power -and the fundamental institution of our society. Those States in rebellion ought be allowed their deceptions within their borders alone. If DOMA were defended as every President is under solemn Oath to preserve, protect, and defend our Laws there ought be no need for yet another law.The problem with the fraud in the Oval Office is Barry Soetoro aka Barak Hussein Obama II has NEVER manifest any intent to honor the Oath —nor to preserve protect and defend the Laws— One cannot defend what one disbelieves. and abhors .which is WHY Obama is by his very nature UNFIT for the Office of the President.

The “fudge packers” and the “Lesbos” will do what they choose to do. This is NOT a Federal issue, it is a State's issue. DADT worked!

Santorum and Bachmann just can’t stop attacking the other conservatives.

Imagine if they had spent all their energy attacking and destroying Romney. They are playing with fire by constantly attacking the other conservatives while giving the liberal Mitt a pass.

Santorum Sez:
““Leaders should be out there advocating for what is in the best interest of our society and what’s in the best interest of mothers and fathers and children and I’m going to do that,” Santorum said. “I have done it and I have done it here in Iowa and I don’t know of anybody else in this campaign, including Herman Cain, who has made that kind of blanket commitment to the institution of marriage and the stability of the family.”

He’s right, no one else has made that kind of commitment to these issues. But the problem Ricky ole pal, is those are not the key issues in 2012. What’s in the best interest of mothers and fathers and kids is that we save the American dream from the socialists. PERIOD.

If we do that, we can work on these other very important issues with the liberty we still have. If we have no economic liberty, we won’t have the time or ability to work on them ever. Get a grip Rick.

>>> Santorum and Bachmann just can’t stop attacking the other conservatives.>>>

DING DING DING....we have a winner! You are so right. The winner this year will be the man or woman who attacks Obama and the liberals the best - NOT the one who attacks the other conservatives the best.

Rick and Michele WAAAAAY off base here.

Santorum is wrong.

States get to decide but cannot impose it on other states.

If you get married in New York, then move to Texas, you are no longer married.

A marriage license is not equal to a driver’s license, otherwise my concealed carry license would be forced on every other state.

It would of been so sweet to watch Romney taken down a peg and have to compete with Huntsman for the 20% of Republicans that are pro abortion.

We are looking for a conservative champion capable of taking out the liberal Obama, not a petty backstabber.

I am way done with the phony constitutional Amendment proposals. Still waiting for Sen Grahamnesty's on birthright citizenship.

The only thing we could use at the Federal level is a constitutional amendment that protects DOMA, that Federal benefits only go to opposite sex married couples. We don't need the Federal government telling states who they can marry.
