As part of a restructuring plan, the Statesman Co. on Tuesday laid off 53 employees, company officials said.

The Statesman Co., a subsidiary of Cox Media Group, publishes the Austin American-Statesman and several smaller Central Texas newspapers, including the Bastrop Advertiser, the Westlake Picayune, the Round Rock Leader and the Pflugerville Pflag.

Since I no longer get the Statesman, I missed this article when it was published.

When their circulation department calls me, I suggest to the caller that it appears the Statesman would rather go broke than provide unbiased news coverage. Their coverage hasn't changed, and they continue toward failure.

Even in Austin, that blue wart on a red state, the libs can't run a successful newspaper.

The fact that it’s a Cox paper makes it all the sweeter.

I've wondered...just where do these people go after the propaganda machine that paid them goes down the drain? A Journalism degree? What does that get you now a days?

I guess I have a bit of sympathy for “anyone” losing their livelihood, however not much for those that spread misinformation. Not a great choice for a career or your soul.

I would LOVE to see a real Conservative newspaper...but even if it could of happened...we are long past the point of a “paper”. I get what I need on the inter-webs...FR, Drudge, Huffpo (always give the other side equal time to reinforce my direction), etc.

Oh, how I will dance when the NYTs finally dies. That will be a happy day.

If your ‘product’ isn’t ‘selling’, it’s because people don’t want to buy it........
